Variation in Antioxidant Components of Black Soybean as Affected by Variety and Cultivation Region (재배지역에 따른 검정콩 항산화 성분의 함량변이)

  • Aiming at development of region specialized crop, this study was conducted to clarify variety and cultivation region dependent on antioxidative compounds in black soybean seeds. For this purpose two black soybean varieties (Ilpumgeomjeongkong and Cheongjakong) were cultivated in 3 different regions (Hwaseong in Gyeonggido, Naju in Jeollanamdo and Jinju in Gyeongsangnamdo) in 2004 and 2005, and harvested seeds were used for isoflavone, anthocyanin and tocopherol contents along with electron donating ability-based antioxidative activities measurements. 100 grain weight between two varieties were not significantly different, but Hwaseong district showed higher 100 grain weight compared to Jinju and Naju. Ilpumgeomjeongkong was higher total isoflavone content ($1,064.9{\mu}g/g$) compared to Cheongjakong ($801.3{\mu}g/g$) in 2004, whereas Cheongjakong showed higher in 2005 compared to Ilpumgeomjeongkong. The highest isoflavone content was obtained in Hwaseong district in 2004, whereas it is the reverse in 2005 that Jinju district showed the highest isoflavone content. In total anthocyanin content, Ilpumgeomjeongkong (7.22 mg/g) was higher than that of Cheongjakong (6.83 mg/g), and Jinju district showed the highest total anthocyanin content (9.16 mg/g) compared to Naju and Hwaseong cultivating districts in their three cultivating districts. Total tocopherol content showed no significant difference between two varieties, but Hwaseong ($217.2{\mu}g/g$) and Jinju ($216.3{\mu}g/g$) districts showed higher content compared to Naju ($189.7{\mu}g/g$) among three cultivating districts. In tocopherol content ratio, $\gamma$-tocopherol was the highest from 56.2% to 59.9%. In electron donating ability (EDA) between two cultivars, Ilpumgeomjeongkong was significantly higher than Cheongjakong, and Naju was the highest of 55.6% among three cultivating districts.

Boundary Line Analysis of Rice Yield Responses to Meteorological Conditions for Yield Prediction II. Verification of Yield Prediction Model (최대경계선을 이용한 벼 수량의 기상반응분석과 수량 예측 II. 수량예측모형 검증)

  • Yield prediction model of rice based on the boundary line analysis of the relationships between rice yield and meteorological conditions during rice growing period was reported in the previous report (Kim et al, 2001). Using the 15-year data of the 20 locations used for the model formulation and of the 12 locations not used, the model was tested for its predictability of location to location, year to year, and variety to variety variation of rice yield. The model predicted reliably the mean yield differences among locations, the yearly yield variation in each location, and the yield variation by variety. However, the model showed relatively lower predictability for the years of cool weather injury especially in mountainous locations. In conclusion, the model using boundary line analysis could be used to predict the yield responses to meteorological conditions during rice growth period and the locational, yearly, and varietal variations of rice yield. And the predictability of the present yield prediction model might be improved by including the boundary line analysis for the other factors such as soil characteristics, fertilization levels, etc.

Variation of Lignan Content for Sesame Seed Across Origin and Growing Environments (참깨 원산지 및 재배지역에 따른 리그난 함량 변이)

  • Sesame lignan, including sesamin and sesamolin has been reported to have various content according to accessions and environmental factors. The objective of this study were to analyze the lignan variation of 143 sesame accessions from core collection in Korea and to test the effects of growing years and locations on lignan and lipid content of Korea sesame elite lines. The results showed that the core sesame germplasm in Korea has broad variation of lignan content from 2.33 to 12.17 mg/g with an average 8.18 mg/g. Among tested sesame accessions, the IT184615 had the highest lignan content of as 12.17 mg/g. So this accession will be a good genetic resource for developing a high lignan sesame variety. The sesamin and sesamolin content for sesame accessions across origin had significant difference. The average lignan content of accessions collected from Russia (10.0 mg/g) and Nepal (9.08 mg/g) were relatively higher than other countries. The sesamin and sesamolin content for sesame accessions across seed coat color had significant difference. The average lignan content of sesame with white, brown and black seed coat color was 8.61, 7.51, and 5.49 mg/g, respectively. The variation of lignan and lipid content was significantly different across elite lines, locations and growing years. Therefore, it is important to find sesame accessions having high lignan content with environmental stability.

RAPD marker variations between and within the species of Korean Suaeda (한국산 나문재속의 종내·종간 RAPD marker 변이)

  • The genus Suaeda is one of the most popular plants on salt marsh areas in Korean Peninsular. The entities that comprise taxa in Korea exhibit widely overlapping ranges in all morphological attributes. Ramdom amplified polimorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were used to clarify taxonomic delimitation among the Korean taxa of Suaeda and to analyse genetic variations among the populations of S. japoniro in western and southern coastal regions. Six decamer primers amplified a total of 65 scorable bands, of which 61 were polymorphic. In all primers investigated, S. glauro of sect. Schanginia is the most distinctive species, compared with others of sect. Heterosperma. S. japonica, S. maritima, and S. malacosperma, which have been hardly distinguished each other by external morphology, were readily recognized by its specific DNA bands. The characteristic RAPD markers were identified local populations of S. japonica, but this feature was not revealed within population.

Identification of Polymorphisms in CAST Gene Associated with Economic Traits in Hanwoo (Bos taurus coreanae) (한우(Bos taurus coreanae)의 CAST 유전자 내 변이지역 탐색 및 경제형질과의 연관성 분석)

  • A number of studies have shown that the calpain system is important in normal skeletal muscle growth. An increased rate of skeletal muscle growth can result from a decreased rate of muscle protein degradation, and this is associated with a decrease in activity of the calpain system, due principally to a large increase in calpastatin (CAST) activity. The CAST gene, mapped to BTA 7, is considered a candidate gene for beef tenderness and muscle growth. The present study used comparative sequencing of five novel polymorphisms located within exon 20 and 22 of the bovine CAST gene in Hanwoo: exon20- 109737G/A, 109749T/C, 109823T/C, exon22- 116151G/A, intron- 109926G/A. The association of the CAST SNPs with economic traits was studied. The 109926G/A showed a significant effect only on the longissimus muscle area (LMA, p<0.05) in Hanwoo. 109926G/A with the genotype GG had a significantly higher effect on LMA (75.35) than the genotype AA (69.6, p<0.05). Also, the 116151G/A showed a significant effect only on weight at 18 months (W18, p<0.05). 116151G/A with the genotype GG had a significantly higher effect on W18 (428.54) than the genotype AA (408.87, p<0.05).

Agroclimatic Zoning Based on Critical Early Seeding Date in Dry-Seeded Rice Analyzed by Daily Mean Air Temperature (벼 건답직파재배의 파종조한기에 의한 농업기후지대 구분)

  • Early critical seeding date based on the appearance characteristic analysis was examined to obtain the fundamental data for the safty of dry-seeded rice under the local climatic conditions. The effective standard temperature at the early critical seeding date was applied for determination of the appearance date at the daily mean air temperature (DMAT) 13$^{\circ}C$. The first appearance date at DMAT 13$^{\circ}C$ for 20 years('73~'92) was found to be 30~40 days (standard deviation:8 days) in year fluctuation. Mean appearance date of it, also, was 10 days earlier than that of its 80% chance. The first appearance date at DMAT 13$^{\circ}C$ was April 26 for Suwon, April 14 for Kwangju, April 13 for Taegu and April 21 for Kangnung, and found to be 13 days in regional change between Suwon and Taegu. Thus agroclimatic characteristics based on the latitude and altitude would be analyzed systematically.

Trend of Regional Economic Development Disparity, Convergence and Inverse U-type Hypothesis Test in China (중국 지역경제발전 격차의 추세, 수렴과 역U자 가설 검증)

  • The study analyzes the trend of regional economic development disparity in China, sets up research period from 1952 to 2008, and uses the after-modified regional GDP data by the first national economic census in 2004. The results as follow. Firstly, the Coefficient of variation(CV) with after-modified GDP data lower than the pre-modified data. Secondly, generally speaking, after-reform and open period's disparity lower than pre-reform and open period. In particular, the regional development disparity increased slowly after 1990, not rapidly. Third, the new cycle of the inverse-U type is appeared from 2002. Fourth, compared with Herfindhal-Hirschman index(HHI) and Theil Entrophy index(TEI), the lower level regions more affect to reduce the disparity in 1980s, and it also affect to reduce the disparity after 2000. Fifth, the convergence hypothesis test finds that the regional economic development disparity has been converged in 1978-2008. Sixth, the inverse-U type hypothesis not has statistical significance, from 1952 to 2008, but it has statistical significance from 1991 to 2008. This result same as the CV and the convergence test.

Genotype $\times$ Environment Interaction of Rice Yield in Multi-location Trials (벼 재배 품종과 환경의 상호작용)

  • The Rural Development Administration (RDA) of Korea now operates a system called Rice Variety Selection Tests (RVST), which are now being implemented in eight Agricultural Research and Extension Services located in eight province RVST's objective is to provide accurate yield estimates and to select well-adapted varieties to each province. Systematic evaluation of entries included in RVST is a highly important task to select the best-adapted varieties to specific location and to observe the performance of entries across a wide range of test sites within a region. The rice yield data in RVST for ordinary transplanting in Kangwon province during 1997-2000 were analyzed. The experiments were carried out in three replications of a random complete block design with eleven entries across five locations. Additive Main effects and Multiplicative Interaction (AMMI) model was employed to examine the interaction between genotype and environment (G$\times$E) in the biplot form. It was found that genotype variability was as high as 66%, followed by G$\times$E interaction variability, 21%, and variability by environment, 13%. G$\times$E interaction was partitioned into two significant (P<0.05) principal components. Pattern analysis was used for interpretation on G$\times$E interaction and adaptibility. Major determinants among the meteorological factors on G$\times$E matrix were canopy minimum temperature, minimum relative humidity, sunshine hours, precipitation and mean cloud amount. Odaebyeo, Obongbyeo and Jinbubyeo were relatively stable varieties in all the regions. Furthermore, the most adapted varieties in each region, in terms of productivity, were evaluated.

Genetic and Morphological Variation of the Genus Liobagrus in Korea (한국산 퉁가리속 어류의 유전 및 형태적 변이에 관한 연구)

  • Genetic and morphological variation among seven populations of two species of the genus Liobagrus that had been collected from six separate river systems in Korea were analyzed by means of starch electrophoreiss and discriminant function analysis . The degree of genic variation among three population of L.andersoni was P=21.3%, H=0.068 , and that of four population of L.mediadiposalis was P=16.3%, H=0.560. Rogers' gentic similarity coefficient (S) of L.andersoni and L.mediadiposalis were S=0.592 , S=0.675 respectively. In morphometric characters of L. andersoni, the population from Kum River was distinctly different from other conspecific populations.

Analysis and Comparison of Community Structural Attributes by Topographic Positions and Aspects in the Natural Deciduous Forest (천연활엽수림의 지형적 위치와 사면방위에 따른 군집 구조적 속성 분석 및 비교)

  • Taking account of the structural variation on species composition according to the different topographic positions and aspects, the forest community attributes such as species composition, species diversity index, and similarity coefficient were comparatively analyzed for the three topographic positions and the four aspects in the natural deciduous forest of Mt. Gari area. The results are as follows 1. The most dominant species in the overstory were Quercus mongolica in the mid-slope, the ridge, and all aspects areas, however, the stands of the topographic positions were less similar than the stands of the aspects in species composition, because of the appearance of the specific domonant species such as Juglans mandshurica in the valley area and Pinus densiflora in the ridge area. 2. Among the three topographic positions, the mid-slope area had greatest species diversity index in overstory, but the index of the valley had greater value than those of mid-slope and ridge in mid-story and understory. The north-east area among the aspects had greatest the index in all canopy layers. However, The stands of the aspects showed more smaller variation than the stands of the topographic positions. 3. The ridge area showed greatest similarity coefficient value with the mid-slope area, but showed least similarity coefficient value with the valley. However, similarity coefficient among the topographic positions had much smaller value than similarity coefficient among the aspects.
