Mediating Effect of Sense of Loss and Depression on the Relationship between Discrimination Experiences and Suicidal Ideation of the Elderly (노인의 차별경험과 자살생각 간의 관계에 대한 상실감, 우울감의 매개효과)

  • This study analyzed the path through which elderly discrimination experience, sense of loss, and depression lead to suicidal ideation by verifying the influence of elderly discrimination experience on suicidal ideation and the mediating effect sense of loss and depression. The subjects of the study were a 1:1 in-depth interview survey of 400 elderly people aged 65 or older using stratified sampling methods by region and type of 31 city, county, and district the elderly welfare welfare centers(10 locations) in Gyeonggi-do. As a result, a total of 360 samples were finally analyzed. It was verified through frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, structural equation and bootstrapping analysis methods using SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 23.0. As a result of the study, first, it was found that the more the elderly experienced discrimination, the higher the suicidal ideation. Second, the effect of sense of loss was partially mediated on the effect of discrimination experience on suicidal ideation in the elderly. Third, the feeling of depression was found to play a partial mediating role between the experience of discrimination among the elderly and suicidal ideation. Based on the results of this study, policy and practical suggestions were made to alleviate the suicidal ideation of experiences of discrimination against the elderly and sense of loss and depression to prevent suicide among the elderly.

The Distributional Characteristics of High Schools in Daegu Viewing from Public Service Facilities (도시공공서비스 측면에서의 대구시 고등학교 분포특성)

  • The aims of this study is to find the facts of regional inequality and to suggest the desirable location of educational facilities and its related policies through the analysis of the distributional characteristics of high schools in Daegu viewing from public service facilities. The results are as follows. As of 2000 year, there are 76 high schools in operation in Daegu. The number of private high schools is more than that of national public ones in terms of their founders, and the number of general high schools outnumbers that of vocational high schools by their operational types. As a whole, the distribution of schools in Daegu is closely related to the population distribution(redistribution). In case of high schools, it shows that there is severe unevenness between demand and supply of educational facilities per district. The regional inequality of school facilities is getting worse by transfer and new establishment; inter-district transfer is mainly caused by the redistribution of population while intra-district transfer is accelerated by the pressure on better use of land. Recently there is a tendency that schools are newly established by public sector(national public schools) rather than by private sector(private schools). And the predilection or avoidance of a certain area in the process of choosing the site for transfer or new establishment of schools lead to inequality of education opportunities per district. In conclusion, the educational facilities should firstly be placed in the practice of public service facilities in terms of public welfare as well as the convenience of residents and regional inequality. Consequently, both construction of new high schools and the relocation of existing high schools have to be further activated. To achieve them, the role of public actions is particularly more important than that of private ones.

A Meta-analysis on the Variables related with Recovery among Persons with Mental Illness (정신장애인의 회복관련변인에 관한 메타분석)

  • This study conducted a meta-analysis to examine syntagmatically on the variables related with recovery among persons with mental illness in Korea. In order to do a meta-analysis, theses and dissertations published between 1999 and 2018 in Korea were reviewed systematically and a total of 24 including studies were selected. Using Comprehensive Meta Analysis (CMA) 3.0 software, this study calculated average effect size and moderator variables related with recovery among persons with mental illness. Results were as follows. First, this study identified a total of 16 variables related with recovery among persons with mental illness. Second, the results indicated that variables which showed large effect sizes included social support(r=.575), empowerment(r=.555), self-efficacy(r=.544), social skill(r=.500), relationship with social worker(r=.482), stigma(r=-.446), family support(r=.418). Third, variables with medium effect sizes included interpersonal relationship capacity (r=.391), agency service satisfaction(r=.366), insight(r=.373) and symptom(r=-.239). Fourth, variables with small effect sizes included work experience(r=.188). Fifth, moderator analyses were conducted utilizing characteristics of residence state (community or mental hospital). Moderator effects were identified in the social support and family support. Based on the findings, theoretical and clinical implications for the recovery among persons with mental illness in Korea were discussed.

A Study on Factors Influencing Needs for Personal Assistance Service in the Workplace for People with Severe Disabilities (중증장애인의 근로지원인서비스 욕구에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • This paper analyzed factors to affect needs for personal assistance service in the workplace for people with disabilities. The statistical analyses adapted in this study were the Frequency Analysis, Ordered Logit Analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of analysis are summarized as follows. First, through the Frequency Analysis many people with severe disabilities in the workplace found to have a high desire of the personal assistance service in the workplace, and factors like types of disability, the degree of disability, income basis found to include in the selection criteria of personal assistance service in the workplace. Second, through Ordered Logit Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis factors to affect needs for personal assistance service in the workplace for people with disabilities found to include factors like residential district, age, level of education, assistance activities of family. By the results of analysis, it is suggested practical implications and policy implications.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the deeper meaning of the experience to explore the essence of latter-aged elderly suicide attempt. To this end, by applying the technology of Giorgi phenomenology to focus on the nature of the experience was described reveal the structure of the developing. By targeting eight people aged 75 years and over in Seoul experience with suicide attempts, open the data was collected through in-depth interviews, participants were analyzed on the basis of the aforesaid materials result, late of suicide in elderly seniors experience semantics was putting down that long for the comfort at the crossroads of life. Analysis of six components were derived 'regrets the harsh years', 'desperate and pathetic beholden', 'useless worthless life', 'body of unbearable pain and lethargy', 'no place to lean loneliness', 'the last select'. Discuss these findings the suicide problem of latter-aged elderly suicide attempt, based on experience and in-depth, Elderly mental health and social welfare presented the practical implications for suicide prevention.

  • This study was designed to test whether middle school students have moderating effect of empathy ability on group bullying behavior. The subjects were 488 middle school students in Busan area, The mean difference test and regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 20 program and the related variables were standardized to show the characteristics of the control effect. The results of this study are as follows: First, as the experiences of the perpetrator and the experience of the autonomous group, the group bullying behaviors were higher, and it was confirmed that the perpetrators were important variables for predicting the bullying behaviors. As a predictor of bullying behavior, it was identified as an important variable. Second, empathy ability has a moderating effect of alleviating the relationship between perpetrator's harmony and bullying behavior, and the relationship between onlooker and bullying behavior. Third, according to gender analysis, male students were more exposed to bullying behaviors than female students. Through these discussions, practical suggestions for social welfare, academic suggestions, and suggestions for follow-up studies were made.

Effects of Transformational Leadership on the Organizational Effectiveness of Long-Term Care Facilities : Focusing on the Care Giver's Mediating effect of Empowerment (노인장기요양기관의 변혁적 리더십이 조직효과성에 미치는 영향 : 요양보호사의 임파워먼트 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine effects of empowerment on relationship between supervisors transformational leadership recognized by care givers and organizational effectiveness represented as the job satisfaction and the organizational commitment. For the purpose, survey were conducted with care givers working in long-term care facilities in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Incheon, and final data were resulted from analysis of 283 examines of those care givers. The findings of this study were as follows: first, transformational leadership of long-term care facilities had a significant influence on the job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Second, the care giver's empowerment had a influence on the job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Third, empowerment worked as mediators between the transformational leadership of long-term care facilities and care giver's job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Based upon these findings, we can propose practices towards improving a long-term care facilities administrator's transformational leadership and implication of program development and provide an institutional strategy aiming to care giver's empowerment improvement.

  • This study aims to explore the effect of youth activity on aspects of individual, family, and school life on youths. Also, this study verifies the consideration of self-esteem as a mediated variable in reporting the effectiveness of youth activities. For the purpose, this study collected data from 1,088 high school and junior high school students in Jeollabuk-do, and performed a final data analysis from 1,063 of those students. SPSS 19.0 and Amos 18.0 were used to analyze the data. As the result of study, youth activities have a positive significant effect on individual, familial, and school life for the youth involved. The results also show that youth activity experiences contribute to self-esteem completely in the youths' individual aspect, and to partially in both familial and school life as well. This study suggested direction in conjunction with the activation of youth activities by analyzing the effectiveness of youth activities from a variety of viewpoints such as individual, familial, and school life for the youths involved.

The Effects of Individual Characteristics, School Organizational Factors, and Teacher Factors on Students' School Violence: A Hierarchical Linear Modeling (학생 개인요인, 학교 구조적 요인, 교사요인이 학교폭력 가해행동에 미치는 영향: 위계적 선형모형 분석)

  • To validate the effects of students' individual factor, school organizational factor, and teacher factor on violent behavior toward peers in school, this study applied Hierarchical Linear Modeling and analyzed it using the HLM 7 program. To this end, it used survey data of students from 50 middle schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. A total of 1,777 cases from 50 middle schools were used for individual student-level analysis (Level 1), and used for school-level analysis (Level-2). According to the results of the analysis, student-level variables such as attitude toward violence, experience of child abuse at home, and delinquent peers had significant effects on school violence. The effects of violent discipline by teacher, which are used as a school-level variable, was statistically significant. Based on the result of the study, action plans and policies to resolve school violence were discussed.

Research on Factors that Influence Interorganizational Relations of Job Center Consultants (고용지원센터 상담직원의 조직연계 활동에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this dissertation is to positively analyze the characteristics of job center consultants' interorganizational relations and factors that influence this linkage in order to better understand the employment service of South Korea. The material utilized for analysis was collected by surveying consultants and managers of 38 job centers and 364 middle managers while applying the method of hierarchical regression. The following is the summary of the research results. First, there is a difference in the influence factor between the number of consultant's organization linkage and frequency of contact. As seen from this result, if the number of organizations a consultant links is affected by the organization's objective working conditions such as the organization structure, position, and primary responsibilities, then the frequency of contact which indicates intimacy by frequent contact depends on the professional ability of the person in charge rather than objective conditions. Second, the analysis result of influence factors according to the type of organization also displayed different influence factors based on the type. Public organizations and economics related organizations are existent in all areas in the form of municipal offices, public corporation, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and labor organizations. Therefore, rather than the personal ability of the person in charge or the influence of other work environments, information of the organization and the actual activities of the head are more influential. On the other hand, private organizations embrace service organizations, employment target related organizations, corporations; they are differentially distributed, which is why they are more influential in organizational reform, decentralization, communication, and the professional ability of the person in charge is significantly influential.
