  • This study began with the problem of establishing the identity of the region through tourism storytelling and the need for economic and cultural recovery. Thus, we analyze the attributes of tourist-aware tourism storytelling, authenticity through experience in tourist attractions, and structural and causal relationships between behaviors. Studies have shown that the attributes of tourism storytelling's sensibility, educationality, ease of understanding, interest and theme have a significant impact on tourists' authenticity experiences. And it was confirmed that the authenticity experience of tourists has a positive impact on tourists' intentions of visiting and oral intentions. This study is of high academic significance in that it applied the attributes of storytelling, which had been studied in the existing linguistics and humanities, to Namwon, a representative cultural tourist destination in Korea. In addition, in order for Namwon to grow into a global cultural tourist destination, it is necessary to develop tourism storytelling using unique storytelling attributes and local resources, and furthermore, it is meaningful to suggest that various contents and services should be developed.

  • Rural tourism is considered one of the main components of travel today. This may explain the emerging interest in tourist behavior at rural sites. Nevertheless, it can be argued that research on tourists' motivation as well as segmentation for visiting rural sites is still in its infancy. The purpose of this study has three main objectives: (1)to adjust the motivations of rural tourism to the general motivations for all travelers and find the core factors for rural tourists. (2)to show the segmentation of korean rural tourists, and (3)to suggest the characteristics of rural tourists' typology. This paper was conducted through two studies: a literature review and a survey for empirical exploration of the ideas. The empirical data are extracted through convenience, and the valid questionnaires totaled to 828. The Frequency, Descriptive, Factor, Cluster, Discriminant, Cross-tabulation analysis were used for the data analysis. The results of analysis indicate that the rural tourists' motivation is consisted of 14 factors. the key elements play a major role in rural tourism. and the rural tourists' market was divided into 5 different groups. The results of this study will not only contributes to a better understanding of rural tourism due to clarification of tourist motivations but also have implication for the development and management of rural sites.

  • Since 1995, when local autonomy policies were enacted in Korea, many local governments have adopted festival-centered place-marketing strategies, in order to develop their regional economies by attracting tourists, as well to provide the general public with information about local comparative advantages. This study assesses the spread effect of the Cheongdo Bull-Fighting Festival upon the regional tourism industry, by analysing questionnaire data obtained from festival visitors and merchants at other major tourist attractions in the area. It is concluded that the Cheongdo Bull-Fighting Festival has been insufficient in attaining the objective of developing the regional economy and the tourism industry, because at present, most of the festival spectators are not tourists as such, but rather residents of the Cheongdo daily community (Daegu metropolitan area), and they do not visit other major tourist attractions in conjunction with attending the festival. It is recommended that planning authorities adopt a strategy explicitly designed to increase the "tourists to local residents" ratio, and to improve tourism services to facilitate intra-regional movement of tourists and visitors alike.

  • This thesis aims to explore the geographic synthesis of ecotour programmes in New Zealand as a foreign area study. In addition, this research will provide effective regional policies for ecotourism in Korea. To achieve the objectives, this research carried out a literature review before taking several field surveys in New Zealand. Research areas are Waitomo Caves, Kauri community, Wildlifes of Otago Peninsular, Whakarewarewa Maori Village, Milford Track in New Zealand. New Zealand ecotour programmes are generally organized by local residents. The programmes include entrance limitations, strict opening time schedules, well trained information officers and guides organized by local residents. Most of all activities are in relation to the programmes that have been developed for educational effects and environmental conservation. The case studies of New Zealand present a good model of how to succeed in ecotourism and conservation management to Korea.
