A Study on the Consumer Perception of Geographical Indications for Agricultural and Processed Products (농산물 및 가공품의 지리적표시제에 대한 소비자 인식에 관한 연구)

  • A geographical indication is a protected trade name or mark for a product that corresponds to a specific geographic location or origin. Geographical indications have been widely used in European countries over the last three decades, mainly for wine and food products. This study investigates the consumer perception of geographical indications for agricultural and processed products and purchase experiences of consumers. It also examines consumer intention to pay more for geographical indication products. The findings from the empirical investigation showed that only 24.0% of the respondents have purchased geographical indication products whereas 49.5% of the respondents have not. Meanwhile, 26.5% of the respondents reported that they were unaware of geographical indications. Main reasons of purchasing geographical indication products were trust in quality, safety, and better taste. On the other hand, main reasons of not purchasing geographical indication products were lack of knowledge and no distinctive quality. The respondents answered that they would pay more for geographical indication products especially for luxury items such as ginseng, wine, and beef.

  • 구성주의 수업은 삶의 경험 혹은 나의 문제로 전환된 문제를 학습주제로 하여, 교사와 학습자, 학습자간에 상호성과 상보성이 전제된 대화화 협력을 통해, 맥락에 적합한 지식을 구성하는 활동이라 할 수 있다. 구성주의 지리교육은 지리학을 위해 지리적 지식을 구성하는 것이 아니라, 지리적 삶을 위해 지리적 지식을 구성하는 것이다. 이것은 지리적 맥락과 맥락의 구성에 충실할 때 가능해 진다. 방법론적으로는 생활 주변에서 볼 수 있는 지리적 사상을 학습대상으로 하여, 이들을 그림이라는 상징을 통해 학습자 스스로 맥락에 따라 구성, 재구성하는 과정 속에 지리적 지식이 구성되게 하는 것이다.

A Study on the Perceptions of Consumers, Producers, and Government Employees toward Geographical Indications (지리적 표시제에 대한 소비자 생산자, 지방자치단체 공무원의 인식에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigates the perceptual differences on geographical indications among consumers, producers, and government employees. First, in terms of the recognition of the geographical indication certification mark, approximately 56% of consumers showed no experience to recognize the mark, indicating their low level of recognition. Besides, some respondents among producers and government employees indicated no experience or no recollection on the certification mark. In terms of the vitalization of geographical indications, consumers and government employees showed positive responses while producers were negative on it. Consumers and government employees attributed the reasons for the low level of vatalization of geographical indications to the low level of consumer recognition. On the other band, producers indicated that the complicated registration procedure and incidental expenses were the main reasons for this issue. Lastly, this study examined if there were significant differences on the perceived consumer preferences on the domestic and imported agricultural and processed products among the three groups. The results found that producers and government employees perceived that consumers preferred the imported products to the domestic products than customers actually did, indicating the lack of understanding of these two groups on consumer preferences on agricultural and processed products.

  • This study suggests that the contents and methods focusing on the leamer's geographical experience of everyday life and environments, are very effective for teaching and teaming in geography subject matter. The contents have to be selected and structurized from private geographies about their region of everyday life for teaming abstractive and scientific concepts of geography. Scientific concepts of geography, i.e. geographical concepts become 'scope'for selecting the contents and these systematic structure substitutes 'sequence'. The criteria by which selected contents of teaching and teaming based on everyday life may consist of three elements: region as leamer's place for everyday life; concrete experience of the place; and leamer's changing geographical experiences.

Local Adjustment and Geographical Knowledge of Foreign Immigrants in S. Korea (외국인 이주자의 지역사회 적응과 지리적 지식)

  • As foreign immigrants are rapidly increasing, how they without previous knowledge and experience adjust themselves to local circumstances where they come to live becomes a major social issue. In order to analyze their adjustment process, this paper suggests a model which consists of relationships with local environment and people on the one hand, and of geographical knowledge and imagination on the other. The analysis of questionnaire survey based on the conceptual model suggests some findings. As there are considerable differences in the extent of their local adjustment and felt difficulties among immigration types, nationalities, and dwelling regions, foreign immigrants‘ policies should be devised proper for their type and characters.

  • Today, with the advent and development of Social Network Service (SNS), various types of information that have been difficult to observe have been pouring out. Recently, Vertical Social Networking Service (SNS), a service that shares specific interests with users' Vertical Social Networking Service) is emerging as a major research area. Especially, various human, social and spatial characteristics can be observed through geolocation data and social data collected through mobile GPS, and it is used in various studies. In this study, we analyze the social data collected through the image - based vertical SNS Instagram, and measure the user 's experience based on the social media based on the user' s spatial context. Therefore, in this study, we investigate what types of spatial patterns exist between experiential elements of sharing experiences and geographical characteristics through social data, and examine a new model of shared experience structure through extracted data.

Development of Value Teaching-Learning Program in Geographic Education (지리교육에서의 가치교수-학습 프로그램의 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop value instruction program which can deal with geographic value problem(GVP) in geographic education. This program is organized into seven stages: identification of GVP(reading of content of GVP, and categorization and description of action which involved in content), analysis of GVP(comparison and analysis of GVP, and ordering of value positions), decision making, justification of decision making and actualization. The processes of decision making and their related activities are emphasized in this program. In experimental classroom, it took effects to providing subjective experiences with students, developing decision making ability, and giving responsibility of decision making. Therefore this study suggests that this program helps students to improve their social participation ability as the democratic citizenship.

  • This study is aimed at researching the applicability of teaching-learning models in highschool geography class by designing the models on the basis of geographical experience the learners go through everyday life. The procedures and results of the application of the models are as followed. First, the systematization of the teaching concepts should be preceded to internalize the learners cognitive development, that is, to systemize cognitive structure. The concrete learning points of geographical concepts from the units about Migration and Population Changes are systemized with 'migration' as a higher concept, 'moving type' as basic concept, 'moving factors' as the lower concept. Everyday geographical experiences the students can go through are surveyed. Second, as preparation for the geography class, hand-outs about family-moving history and the change of the family number were used as basic material for real class teaching activity, showing the learners' general concepts are very effective as basic units which can be easily understood and accessed to. Third, with the experimental class, the geography class should secure the flexibility on the teaching-learning process. The result of applying the newly developed teaching-learning model to actual geography classes was that experimental group had higher achievement rate than the compared group with general teaching-learning model applied to. The result of analyzing students' response of the new teaching-learning model was that the students were interested and satisfied emphatically and they showed positive response in regard to practical use of the contents. Here, it is noticeable that the new teaching-learning model causes the students to be interested. But it's also found that there's no big difference in improving the students' inquisitive mind.

Parent-Child Difference in Attitudes, Resources, and Constraints, and the Impacts of these Factors on Generational Proximity in the United States and Japan (노인 부모와 자녀 사이의 지리적 근접성에 대한 연구 : 미국과 일본의 사례를 중심으로)

  • This study examines multi-level factors geographic proximities between elderly parents and their children in the United States and Japan. Despite their similar economies, the United States and Japan show a significant difference in their patterns of generational proximity. In 1993, half of US non-Hisapnic white parents aged 70 or over lived separately but within 10 miles of their nearest children and a majority of them lived far from their non-nearest children. The family geographic network for Japanese elderly parents is more hierarchial. In 1989, 74 percent of Japanese parents aged 70 and over lived with their nearest children but most of them lived far from their non-nearest children. To explain this distinctive pattern of inter- and intra-family differences in generational proximities in the two societies, this study employs a multi-level analysis which compares the relative importance of life course conditions of elderly parents and their children and economic and ecological characteristics of elderly parent's places of residence in influencing generational proximities.

Priming Effects of Disaster-related TV News: Focusing on the Interactions of Geographical and Psychological Distance (재난 뉴스의 점화 효과: 지리적·심리적 거리의 상호작용을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the priming effects of disaster-related news. Specifically, this study aimed to examine the priming effects about trauma words and neutral words according to the geographical and psychological distance from the disaster. The participants in this study were 75 college students who had not experienced the Daegu subway fire accident, and whom were not ruled out after completing the screening measure completing the screening measure the completion of questionnaires for screening. All participants conducted a lexical decision task after watching a news video about the Daegu subway fire accident. The design was a 2 (Geographical distance: close vs. distant) × 2 (Psychological distance: close vs. distant) × 2 (Priming type: trauma priming vs. neutral priming) mixed-design. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the group which was geographically closer to the disaster tended to revealed a largerbigger priming effect than the distant group-a trend toward significance. Second, within the psychologically closer to the disaster, group, for those who were geographically closer too, the priming effect was larger for those who were geographically closer geographically closer than for the geographically distant group. Third, the geographically closer group had a largerbigger neutral priming effect than the distant group. Fourth, the psychologically distant group had a largerbigger neutral priming effect than the close group. To sum up, this study identified that disaster news coverage may have an implicit effect on people, and this influence can change according to the geographical and psychological distance. Finally, this study discussed the limitations of the study and recommendations for further research.
