Storytelling Model of Computer Games - Focused on Analysis of Starcraft by Greimas's Schema of Narrative Theory (컴퓨터게임의 스토리텔링 모델 - 그레마스의 설화도식을 이용한 스타크래프트 분석을 중심으로)

  • This paper attempts to construct a storytelling model of computer games by using the Greimas's schema of narrative. Analysis target is multi-play of Starcraft, which has the non-linearity and interactivity. As a result, the process of manipulation and sanction, occurred in epistemological level at very short time and the process of competence had lots of small schema of narratives and repeated that small narratives. This model may be applied to other games, because it looks that most of games have very short process of manipulation and sanction at epistemological level and have long process of competence as main game play.

Inferring the Causal Relationship between Three Events (세 사건간의 인과관계 판단)

  • Two experiments were conducted to explore whether the Or structure works as a default causal model in inferring the causal structure from the contingency data. The contingencies of three unfamiliar variables were used in Experiment 1. Participants inferred the Or structure quite well from the OR data, but incorrectly inferred the Or structure from the And data for about a little less than half of the time, and almost always inferred the Or structure from the chain data. The results suggested that the Or interpretation can be the default causal model. The prevalence of the Or interpretation from the contingency data was reported even when the three variables were familiar ones in Experiment 2. Multinomial modeling performed on the results of the two experiments strongly suggested that the Or interpretation work as a default causal model.

A Study on the Prediction of Surface Subsidence Zone through the Case Studies on Mined-out Area (채굴적에 의한 지반침하 사례 분석을 통한 침하발생 범위의 추정에 관한 연구)

  • Graphical method has been widely applied to the prediction of subsidence area, and is known to have advantages in analysis of trough subsidence which is common in horizontally seamed mine area. However, it is reported that most of the ore bodies in Korea are geologically inclined from sub-horizontal to steep, and therefore, the sinkhole subsidence is frequent in abandoned mine area. For these reasons, it is not to be desired that graphical method is applied for predicting the subsidence occurrence. This paper describes the results of subsidence zone prediction considering the dip direction and the opposite direction of inclined ore bodies from the case studies on the 163 subsidence occurrence regions. The results show also the assumed angle which can define the range of subsidence in the surface area. In conclusion, the limit of this angle is suggested after taking into account the comparison with graphical method and the application to the case histories.

  • A program which can produce military standard raster maps was developed. This includes the functions that classify the types of geospatial data, publish automatically based on paper map schema, and convert products with military standard raster formats. Especially, this paper presents the automatic map-publishing technique with mathematical modeling and controling the line width, color, shape that ever not used.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of scheme based strategy Instruction on problem solving of word problems of ratio and proportion for students with under achievement or at risk for learning disabilities. Three $7^{th}$ graders of underachieving or at risk LD were participated in this study. Three steps of instructional experiment-testing baseline, intervention with schematic-based strategy, testing for the abilities of problem solving, generalization, & sustainability. The results showed that the schema-based strategy, FOPS was effective method for all three students enhancing problem solving abilities and for generalizing and sustaining the problem solving.

  • Wireless RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) fingerprinting is one of the most popular methods for indoor positioning as it provides reasonable accuracy while being able to exploit existing wireless infrastructure. However, the process of radio map construction (aka fingerprint calibration) is laborious and time consuming as precise physical coordinates and wireless signals have to be measured at multiple locations of target environment. This paper proposes a method to build the map from a combination of RSSIs without location information collected in a crowdsourcing fashion, and a handful of labeled RSSIs using a semi-supervised self organizing map learning algorithm. Experiment on simulated data shows promising results as the method is able to recover the full map effectively with only 1% RSSI samples from the fingerprint database.

  • We need to reflect the establishment of meaning and level of 'proof and argumentation in middle school mathematics'. It should be considered as human activity through communication in community. Thus, we should design instruction from this standpoint. From this point of view, we had been operated 'Geometry Inquiry Class' aimed at middle school students in eighth grade for two years to improve current geometry class in middle school. In this study, we will observe how individual students' original proof schemes are developed and accepted to the class through the process of mutual negotiation between the teacher and students. The episode with four phases begins with the initial proof schemes students have offered. Through the negotiation of class participants, it gives birth to the proof scheme unique to the current geometry classroom. Why do we pay attention to the process? It is because we think that the value of this type of instruction lies in the process of communication and mutual understanding and mutual reference, not in the completeness of the final product. This is the very appropriate proof in the middle school mathematics classroom.

Temporality of Music in Film (영화 <인셉션>에 나타난 음악의 시간성)

  • In , music becomes a passage of spaces in dreams and at the same time causes a problem of temporality between spaces with different time speeds. This paper aims to examine the temporality of the music through Bergson's concept of time. The music used in the film, 《Non, je ne regrette rien》, is divided into the original version, the slowed-down version, and the rearranged version with the slowed-down, and this study visually confirmed the characteristics and similarities through practical analysis. From the perspective of Bergson's perception and memory diagram, non-diegetic music of the actual(the rearranged version) in which diegetic music of the virtual(the slowed-down version) inherent, plays the role of film music and music signal simultaneously. Also, the original version and the slowed-down version are the relationship of durational identity with qualitative changes. We looked at the position in the inverted cone diagram and applied their relationship to the diagram. It is a great achievement of this study that we explored the temporality of music in the multi-layered structure of , based on Bergson's philosophy of coexisting with the present and the past.

Numerical Analysis of Enzyme Kinetics for Undergraduate Education in Engineering (공학분야 학부교육용 효소반응속도식의 수치해석)

  • An enzyme-catalized reaction is usually characterized by a very large increase in the rate and high specificity. Kinetics of simple enzyme-catalized reactions are often referred to as Michelis-Menten kinetics. A chemical that interferes with an enzyme's activity is called inhibitor. There are two types of enzyme inhibitions (viz. reversible and irreversible). If an inhibitor attaches to the enzyme with weak bonds, such as hydrogen bonds, the inhibition is usually reversible. Many enzyme reactions are also inhibited reversibly by their corresponding products. The rate of substrate disappearance together with the rate of product formation may be written by nonlinear differential equations. In the present study, numerical analyses of simple enzyme kinetics and inhibited enzyme kinetics are reported for the purpose of undergraduate education in engineering.

Mathematical Cognition as the Construction of Concepts in Kant's Critique of Pure Reason ("순수이성비판"에 나타난 수학적 인식의 특성: 개념의 구성)

  • Kant defines mathematical cognition as the cognition by reason from the construction of concepts. In this paper, I inquire the meaning and the characteristics of the construction of concepts based on Kant's theory on the sensibility and the understanding. To construct a concept is to exhibit or represent the object which corresponds to the concept in pure intuition apriori. The construction of a mathematical concept includes a dynamic synthesis of the pure imagination to produce a schema of a concept rather than its image. Kant's transcendental explanation on the sensibility and the understanding can be regarded as an epistemological theory that supports the necessity of arithmetic and geometry as common core in human education. And his views on mathematical cognition implies that we should pay more attention to how to have students get deeper understanding of a mathematical concept through the construction of it beyond mere abstraction from sensible experience and how to guide students to cultivate the habit of mind to refer to given figures or symbols as schemata of mathematical concepts rather than mere images of them.
