  • The following summarizes the findings from an analysis of literature and 21 versions of the Bible published in Korea, China, and Japan to discuss the name of Myrtus communis. Myrtus communis was an important tree symbolizing love and resurrection since the Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Judas, Greece, Ancient Rome, and Medieval Spain. In the Bible, Myrtus ($h{\acute{a}}das$) was used to make the booths at the Feast of Tabernacles or for various ceremonies. Myrtus symbolized the people of Israel and also symbolized peace, appreciation, indestructibility, and resurrection. In the Bible of Korea, China, and Japan, Myrtus was translated into various names by time, such as '崗拈樹', '千里香', '鳥拈', '番石榴', 桃金孃, Gamtangnamu, Seoglyunamu, Hwaseoglyu, Sogwinamu. 'Myrtle' was translated into '桃金孃' based on Japan's "熟語本位 英和中?典(1915)" and it seems that the mistake was directly excerpted by the English-Korean Dictionary(1949) after the Liberation. According to the theory of 'Dynamic Equivalence' in translation, it would be best to use 'Myrtus' was the official name of Myrtus communis.

  • The objective of this study is to identify ways to resolve conflicts arising from building new roads or expanding existing roads by introducing negotiation techniques to the Jeju government. A case of city planning (Jungjeong-ro, Seogwipo City, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province) was analyzed in this study in an aspect of negotiation. In the case, the Committee for Promoting and Vitalizing Jungjeong-ro conducted negotiations from February, 2011 to December, 2011. This study proposes ways to establish systems which resolve problems during negotiation processes and frame concepts related to negotiation in the overall administrative systems. Firstly, setting up a negotiation management team within the provincial office and supporting it fully is needed. Secondly, there should be a process in which decisions made by the negotiation team become authoritative. Thirdly, for smooth negotiation processes, it is necessary to formulate ground rules and make negotiating parties obey them thoroughly. Fourthly, a negotiation clinic team should be established at the Jeju provincial government. Fifthly, there should be a negotiation school within the framework of human resources development. Sixthly, If officials do their negotiation jobs positively, a reward system should be established to give them adequate rewards. Lastly, concept of negotiation should take root in administration in general.

  • Humans desire the achievement a of sense of unity between themselves and place to create an identity of place as a realization of his or her sense of belonging. Humans develop ideas from their culture and environment to be expressed physically within the landscape through symbols. Symbols are formed within a place through the structure of the space and, more visually, through the details. The purpose of this paper is to examine the structure of space and the details of 'the Courtyard of the lions' in the Alhambra and to study how the details influence the formation of the identity of place. This paper also compares the structure and details in terms of the meaning of symbols, design languages, cultural, social and historical background and the experience of the place. The structure of the space in 'the Courtyard of the Lions' represents Paradise in the Islamic religion a common theme in the composition of traditional Islamic gardens. The design languages expressed within the structure are order, balance, accent and enclosure; the inherit meanings of the structure are religion, the natural environment and way of life. The details tell of the ideology of Paradise, royalty, nature, and praise of God, while their design languages include physical and visual continuity, accent, variation, the feeling of movement, rhythm, and depth perception. The details also express the historical background of the Dynasty of Nasrid and the style of Mudejar. The name 'the Courtyard of the Lions' was taken from the detail of the lim figures, details within the landscape which are important in building an identity of place.
