A Study on the Problems in Third-Party Logistics in China (중국 제3자 물류의 문제점에 관한 연구)

  • The third party logistics is a new developing industry in China and is still in infancy stage. China's third party logistics market only represents 3.39% of the Logistics market in 2006. As international multinational corporations have taken part in China market, they use their current 3PL providers to assist them to deal with the substantial logistics issues that exist in expanding their business activities in China. Traditional 3PL services such as transportation, warehousing and customs clearance are main in China's 3PL market. A variety of domestic laws and regulations on logistics in China prevent 3PL Providers from supplying value-added additional services to their users. Chinese firms have not yet supply high value-added services in China's 3PL logistics market. The purpose of this paper is to contribute the activation of third party logistics in China by analyzing the present situations, and presenting the solutions to problems of Third-Party Logistics in China.

  • 국내의 주요 물류기업들 중 16개 기업이 '종합물류기업'이라는 인증을 받기위해 건설교통부로부터 심사를 받고 있다. 올 상반기중에 우리나라를 대표하는 종합물류기업이 탄생할 것으로 기대된다. 이들 기업을 비롯하여, 물류기업들이 국내시장 규모만을 바라보고 경쟁하기 보다는 보다 넓은 해외진출을 꾀하여 글로벌 물류기업으로 다시 태어나야 할 것이다. '물류'라는 단어가 우리나라에 들어온지 불과 30년도 채 안되는 시점에서 동북아 물류중심을 외치는 우리의 물류산업은 비약적인 발전을 이뤘으며, 국내 시장이 아닌 중국을 비로한 해외 각국으로 진출하는 국제물류에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 최근 21세기에는 북한, 아시아, 중국의 항만, 도로, 철도 등 하부구조를 크게 성장시켜, 권역 운송을 광역화하고 복합운송을 발전시켜야 한다는 의견과 더불어 물류시장의 개방을 통한 외국 운송업체들의 참여를 유도하여 국내 업체의 경쟁력을 키워야 한다는 업계의 의견이 조심스럽게 흘러나오고 있다. "만약 물류시장이 개방될 경우 우리나라 물류기업은 생존 대응능력은 있는가!"하는 의문은 종합물류기업들을 보면 답이 나올 것이다. 해외시장 개척을 적극적으로 펼치면서 외국 물류기업과 어깨를 나란히 하고자 하는 국내의 우수 물류기업들이 많다. 그 중 몇몇 기업들을 살펴보면 대한통운, 글로비스, 한솔CSN, 현대택배, 한진, 현대상선 등은 해외현지법인화를 통하여 글로벌 물류기업으로 도약을 꾀하고 있는 기업도 많다. 이번호에는 "국내외 물류기업의 해외진출 방향, 전략 및 사례"를 통하여 글로벌 물류기업으로 성장하고 있는 업체들의 해외진출현황을 간략히 살펴보고, 전략에 대해 물류전문가로부터 의견을 들어본다.

An Entry Strategies on the Western China of Korean Logistics Corporations (한국물류기업의 중국서부지역 진출 전략)

  • The Korea-China FTA and China's huge development policy for its western regions could create a strategic opportunity for Korean Companies. This study suggests a strategy for expanding the domestic activities of Korean logistics Corporations and supporting the activities of Korean Companies operating in China. Using surveys of 32 Korean Logistics Corporations, important factors to consider when expanding into western China were analyzed. The results identified factors in the order of government, local markets, strategy, infrastructure, and finance and budget. The "development of Chinese Logistics specialists," "economic cooperation with the local governments of western China," and "holding investment Fairs and exhibitions" were important government-related factors. "Understanding entry permits and procedures for logistics corporations in China" and "understanding the logistics system of western China" were also shown to be important factors. Furthermore, governmental factors were suggested to be significant by large, medium-sized, and small businesses alike, while the factor of local markets was suggested to be significant by small-scale businesses.

A Comparative Analysis of Logistics Policy and Corporate Strategy for China in Korea and Japan (한국과 일본의 대(對)중국 물류정책 및 기업전략 비교분석)

  • This paper compared the cases of Korea and Japan on the basis of three research goals as follows. Above all, this paper tries to illuminate differences in logistics policies for China in Korea and Japan at governmental levels after understanding their distinct features. Then, after investigating investments of Korean and Japanese firms in China and their specific cases at corporate levels, this paper tries to illuminate similarities and differences of corporate strategies in Korean and Japanese logistics firms. Finally, this paper attempts to derive implications for Korean governments and firms through the comparative study. Main results of this study are as follows. First, even though logistics policies of Korean and Japanese government are similar in admitting the significance of China, Japanese policies are broader by admitting the significance of cooperating with ASEAN nations. Second, Japanese firms provide more diverse entire logistics services and also retained wider logistics networks than Korean counterparts in Chinese logistics markets. Thus, Korean logistics firms need to pursue to establish strategic cooperation with other foreign firms in China.

A Study on Evaluation of the Potential of Omni-Channel Market in China by Region (중국의 지역별 옴니채널시장 잠재력 평가에 관한 연구)

  • This study evaluates the potential by Chines region for entry of Korean logistics companies and retailers. The variables affecting e-commerce business and retail sales concerning the Chinese omni-channel market were extracted from a thorough literature review. Empirical analyses for variables based on 31 regions in China were performed. Results show that e-commerce is affected by disposable income and internet traffic and that retail sales are affected by urban and rural population, GRDP and urbanization. In addition, we performed variance decomposition analysis in order to estimate responses of logistics GDP(transport, storage and communication) and the number of Chinese mobile users. Exogenous shocks to logistics GDP and the number of mobile phone users play a strong role in explaining the forecast error of express service variance over time. Based on our results, we suggest 7 potential regions(Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Beijing, Shanghai, Liaoning and Shandong) as well as managerial implications for entry into China for logistics companies and retailers.

Alternatives for Entering into the Chinese Market by Smaller-Sized Korean Logistics Enterprises (우리나라 중소물류기업의 중국진출 활성화 방안)

  • The growth of Chinese logistics market has brought many logistics enterprises enter into the chinese market. The purpose of this study is to suggest some alternatives for activating enter into chinese market for smaller-sized korean logistics enterprise. First of all, in order to achieve such a purpose, factors for activation through literature survey and previous studies are analyzed. After that, questionnaire survey are carried out. Also factor analysis and reliability test based on the questionnaire results are performed. Main findings are suggested as followings. First, in order to activate entering the chinese market, it is drawn out that possessing of logistics infrastructure and understanding of culture of chinese relationship are most important. Second, market information and reform of management system, inspection and customs clearance are suggested as less important.

  • Logistics industry was changed after China join into the WTO. Compared with other countries, cost of logistics is very high in China. Besides, there are several problems with the demand basis, service and information technology of the third-party logistics. The forth-party logistics was appeared in logistics market in this context. The forth-party logistics was just become to develop in China so there are many problems recent years. Chinese government propose some solutions with the development of the fourth-party logistics such as the adjustment of the logistics industry policy, strengthening of the logistics information system and infrastructure, training logistics expertise. This research pointed out the obstacles in the development of the forth-party logistics in China by analyzing the present situation and the development strategy of some representative companies such as ANDE Logistics Company and Philips Logistics Company. The purpose of this paper is to research the development of the forth-party logistics in China by analyzing the problems with Chinese government and logistics companies, and finally bring up some solutions with these problems.
