  • This paper aims to examine directives and its adjacency pair directives-responses in the Chinese textbook Hanyu Kouyu from the speech act theory, and give some suggestions for Chinese speaking instruction. For analysis of directives, it is important to consider context surrounding it at first. Context includes space for speaking, person who speak with, adjacent speech act, etc., so this paper considers context firstly before explaining directives and discusses how each element of context effects interpretation of its meaning. From the politeness perspective, directives and rejection as one of the responses are easy to be FTAs(face-threatening acts) fundamentally, so they are required to have some strategies for minimizing the threat, and it is found that there are strategies for positive face and negative face in the textbook. In the textbook, it is also examined that directives-responses contribute for interlocutor to accomplish social acts, for example, negotiating, insisting, maintaining, making alternative ideas, etc.

  • In Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, phoneme-based pronunciation teaching such as tone, consonants, vowels is the most common teaching methods. Based on main character of Chinese grammar: 'lack of morphological change' in a narrow sense, was proposed by Lv Shuxiang and Zhu Dexi, I designed 'Communicative oriented Chinese pronunciation teaching method'. This teaching method is composed of seven elements: one kind is the 'structural elements': phoneme, word, phrase, sentence; another kind is the 'functional elements': listening, speaking and translation. This pronunciation teaching method has four kinds of practice methods: 1) phoneme learning method; 2) word based pronunciation practice; 3) phrase based pronunciation practice; 4) sentence based pronunciation practice. When the teachers use these practice methods, they can use the dialogue and Korean-Chinese translation. In particular, when the teachers use 'phoneme learning method', they must use Korean and Chinese phonetic comparison results. When the teachers try to correct learner's errors, they must first consider the speech communication.

  • This study compared and analyzed the characteristics of new words by classifying 197 newly coined Korean and Chinese characters in 2017 and 2018 into single, compound, derivative, abbreviated, and hybrid words according to the coined method. In the case of a single language, Korean is all words borrowed from Chinese and English. However, no monolingual language appeared in Chinese. In the case of compound words, the format of the Chinese synthesis method was much more diverse and the generative power was stronger than that of Korea. In the case of derivatives, there are not many prefixes in both countries, and Korean suffixes have the strongest productivity of Chinese suffixes and weak productivity of foreign and native suffixes. Korean foreign language suffixes were characterized by relatively more appearance than Chinese. In the case of abbreviations, it can be seen that the productivity of dark syllables is stronger for Korean abbreviations, and the productivity of empty syllables is stronger for Chinese abbreviations. In the case of mixed languages, the hybrid form of Korean was much more diverse than that of Chinese. Through this study, it will be possible to help Chinese Korean learners understand the process of forming a new language, and to develop their ability to guess the meaning of Korean words while learning a new language.

  • Through literary research, this study aims to study chinese characters in the Chosun Dynasty from the perspective of international exchange. While sorting out the historical materials, it investigates the implementation organ, educational content and main characteristics of Chinese education in the Chosun Dynasty, its influence on the Korean peninsula at that time and Its enlightenment to today's Chinese international education. The results show that the Chinese language education institutions in the Chosun Dynasty mainly played the role of Chinese language education in the Si service academy and the Sheng Wen Academy. The contents of Chinese language education mainly include the development of oral Chinese teaching materials, the publication of rhymes and other reference books, the compilation of dictionaries and the training of Chinese translators. Through the in-depth study of Chinese rhymes, the Korean Peninsula created its own Korean national character in 1443, getting rid of the will of Chinese characters. The invention of Korean language has greatly encouraged the political, economic and cultural development of the Korean peninsula. In addition, the Chinese language education in the Chosun Dynasty provides a good experience for today's Chinese international education in China.

  • This research aims to explore the associated linguistic features and functions of Chinese as used for business trading purposes, and which is based on a discourse analysis through a case in which a Korean buyer and a Chinese supplier have exchanged Internet based e-mails. The research questions include first, the linguistic functions and characteristics of Chinese shown as identified in this trade case through e-mails, second, the use of Chinese trade specific terms, and third, the apparent and dynamic negotiation strategies that are identified as followed by the cultural value systems which are used for resolving interest conflicts and issues between the buyer and supplier in the course of negotiating business contracts between two parties. The participants of this research pertain to a Korean buyer, James and a Chinese supplier, Sonya. The associated data consists of 74 e-mails exchanged between the two parties, initiated in an effort to begin and complete a trade item, in this case namely the product of napkin holders. The research for the study is based on the discourse analysis and empirically analyses models of Chinese linguistic functions and features. The findings are the following. First, as identified, the specific Chinese functions used and sequenced in this trade case are of a procedure, request, informing, negotiation and persuasion. Second, the essential trade terms used in this business interaction involve the relevant issues of 1) ordering and price negotiating, 2) marking the origin of the products, 3) the arrangement of the product examination and customs declaration for the anticipated import items, 4) preparation of the necessary legal documents, and 5) the package and transport of the product in the final instance. Third, the impact of the similarities and differences in the cultural value systems between Korea and China on the negotiations and conflict resolution during a negotiated contract between two parties are speculated in terms of the use of culturally based techniques such as face-saving and the utilization of uncertainty-avoiding strategies as meant to prevent misunderstandings from developing between the parties. The concluding part of the study discusses the implications for a practical Chinese language education utilizing the linguistic functions and features of the Chinese culture and language strategies as useful in business associations for trading purposes, and the importance of intercultural communication styles based on similar of different identified cultural values as noted between two parties.

  • In the process of reading, readers can process information not only within the fixated region, known as the fovea, but also in the parafoveal region to the right of the fovea. While the parafoveal semantic preview effect has been confirmed in eye-tracking experiments using boundary techniques, research on how the parafoveal preview effects differ depending on the degree of semantic relatedness is still limited. This study investigates the parafoveal preview effects as a function of semantic relatedness with the target word. The experiment utilized Korean-Chinese bilinguals and presented mixed-language sentences as experimental stimuli. Four parafoveal preview conditions were applied to the target words in each sentence: (1) Korean identical condition, where the parafoveal word was the same as the target word (e.g., "나라," meaning "country" in English), (2) Chinese synonymous condition, where the parafoveal word had the same meaning as the target word (e.g., "国家," also meaning "country" in English), (3) Chinese semantically related condition, where the parafoveal word was semantically related to the target word (e.g., "政权," meaning "political power" in English), and (4) Chinese unrelated condition, where the parafoveal word was semantically unrelated to the target word (e.g., "围裙," meaning "apron" in English). The study explored the parafoveal preview effect in terms of the degree of semantic association with the target word. We found the most pronounced preview effect in conditions where the preview and the target word shared the same meaning, and we also observed preview effects in conditions where the semantic relatedness with the target word was relatively weak. This study suggests that the degree of semantic relatedness between the parafoveal preview word and the target word can influence readers' reading processes. It contributes to a better understanding of readers' eye movements and comprehension processes, with potential implications for the development of effective reading strategies and educational methods.

  • This paper proposed the optimal attributes for text classification based on Korean and Chinese linguistic features. The experiments committed to discover which is the best feature among n-grams which is known as language independent, morphemes that have language dependency and some other feature sets consisted with n-grams and morphemes showed best results. This paper used SVM classifier and Internet news for text classification. As a result, bi-gram was the best feature in Korean text categorization with the highest F1-Measure of 87.07%, and for Chinese document classification, 'uni-gram+noun+verb+adjective+idiom', which is the combined feature set, showed the best performance with the highest F1-Measure of 82.79%.
