The corrosion of steel reinforcement in reinforced concrete bridge decks significantly affects the degradation of the capacity. Due to the advantageous characteristics such as high tensile strength and non-corrosive property, fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has been gathering much interest from designers and engineers for possible usage as a alternative reinforcement for a steel reinforcing bar. However, its application has not been widespread, because there data for short- and long-term performance data of FRP reinforced concrete members are insufficient. In this paper, seven full-scale decks with dimensions of $4000{\times}3000{\times}240mm$ were prepared and tested to failure in the laboratory. The test parameter was the bottom reinforcement ratio in transverse direction. The decks were subjected to various levels of concentrated cyclic load with a contact area of $577{\times}231mm$ to simulate the vehicle loading of DB-24 truck wheel loads acting on the center span of the deck. It was observed that the glass FRP (GFRP) reinforced deck on a restraint girder is strongly effected to the level of the applied load rather than the bottom reinforcement ratio. The study results showed that the maximum load less than 58% of the maximum static load can be applied to the deck to resist a fatigue load of 2 million cycles. The fatigue life of the GFRP decks from this study showed the lower and higher fatigue performance than that of ordinary steel and CFRP rebar reinforced concrete deck. respectively.
The form or interpretation of today's communication design lies in content development and storytelling to the designer. However, the understanding as well as exteriment of the mechanisms behind content creation remain an obscure concept. Particularly given the rapid development of digital technology, since the 1980s typography has been quickly transforming itself from its static state to the more dynamic'Type in Motion'. following this came the need for solid research in'Type in Motion'as the best means of presenting story content and form The previous passage has studied the effectiveness of'Type in Motion'in presenting this kind of content. Type in Motion has allowed vast developments in the methods of story presentation. It is Due that today's digital technology has given many benefits to the designer, but on the other hand, it has required a more diverse understanding of digital design. furthermore, even the designers in digital typography lack the understanding and research in'Type in Motion'not only as a mode of visual language but also of verbal language. Given this point· in hand, the entire interpretation and interrelation of story and'Type in Motion'can be considered essential, given their shaping of effective digital typography.
This paper presents the design and implementation of a cache file system, umcFS, which is specifically designed to provide an efficient caching and transmission of streaming media. The proposed file system is based on the concept of file disk and implemented as an application level on top of a general-purpose file system. The file disk favors the continuity of cached media and provides an efficient I/O mechanism for cache server. umcFS statically allocates control blocks as well as media cache blocks. These blocks are referenced by the single-level indirect management structure. As the file system is designed as an application level, it is easy to develop and port to other systems. The performance of the implemented system shows that umcFS performs about 13% better than the native file system in randomly accessing the cache blocks of 1024KB.

The PSP technique has been used to measure pressure distribution on model surfaces ins high-speed flows. The objective of this study is to develop a PSP technique which can be applied to low-speed aerodynamic flows. Four different PSP formulations including two porphyrins (PtOEP and PtTFPP) and two polymers (Poly(TMSP) and RTV-118) were tested and the performance of each combination was evaluated. In a static calibration, the luminescent intensity of the PSP coatings was measured from 0kPa to 11kPa with 0.5, 1, 2kPa increments. Among 4 PSP formulations tested, the combination of PtOEP and RTV-118 shows the best performance. The developed PSP technique was applied to an oblique impinging jet to measure the pressure field distribution on the impinging plate.
Kinetic typography has been suggested to express emotions in computer-mediated communication (CMC) by empowering static texts with dynamic attributes, where conversations occur primarily in text-based forms. In this work, we investigate whether pre-defined kinetic typography effects are capable of delivering emotions, and further, which specific attributes of kinetic typography arouse such emotions. The results show that emotional response of users were corresponding to the emotions intended by experts, indicating that pre-defined kinetic typography is an applicable way to express emotions consistently in CMC. Also, results demonstrate some key attributes that derive certain levels of mood and energy respectively. Energy level turned out to be affected by the font size, transparency, direction of movement, amount of movement, velocity, and acceleration of the text, while mood level was influenced by the transparency, direction of movement, regularity in movement, and speed of the text.
Ray-object intersection is an important element in ray tracing that takes up a substantial amount of computing time. In general, such spatial data structure as kd-tree has been frequently used for static scenes to accelerate the intersection computation. Recently, a few variants of kd-tree traversal have been proposed suitable for the GPU that has a relatively restricted computing architecture compared to the CPU. In this article, we propose yet another two implementation techniques that can improve those previous ones. First, we present a cached stack method that is aimed to reduce the costly global memory access time needed when the stack is allocated to global memory. Secondly, we present a rope-with-short-stack method that eases the substantial memory requirement, often necessary for the previous rope method. In order to show the effectiveness of our techniques, we compare their performances with those of the previous GPU traversal methods. The experimental results will provide prospective GPU ray tracer developers with valuable information, helping them choose a proper kd-tree traversal method.
A dynamic analysis procedure is developed to provide a better estimation of the dynamic responses of pre-stressed concrete (PSC) box girder bridges on the Korea high speed railway. Particularly, a three dimensional numerical model including the structural interaction between high speed vehicles, bridges and railway endures to analyze accurately and evaluate with in-depth parametric studies for dynamic responses of bridge due to the high speed railway vehicles. Three dimensional frame element is used to model the PSC box girder bridges, simply supported span lengths 40 m. The high-speed railway vehicles (K-TGV) including a locomotive are used as 38-degree of freedom system. Three displacements (vertical, lateral, and longitudinal) as well as three rotational components (pitching, rolling, and yawing) are considered in the 38-degree of freedom model. The dynamic analysis by Runge-Kutta method which are able to analyze considering the dynamic impact factors are compared and contrasted. It is proposed as an empirical formula that the impact factors damaged the bridge load-carrying capacities occurs to the bride due to high-speed vehicle.

The use of FRP(Fiber Reinforced Polymer) bars to replace conventional steel bars in reinforcing concrete structures is currently encouraged by many structural engineers, especially for their noncorrosive properties. The partial inferiority of the bond and mechanical properties for FRP bars, however, leads to wider and deeper cracks compared with those of steel reinforced concrete structures. This paper presents experimental results of concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars tested under static loading conditions up to failure. The study focuses on the effects of the reinforcement ratio on the behavior of concrete beams at various stages during loading. The study also attempts to establish a theoretical basis for the development of simple and rational design procedures for concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the strength and behavior of the composite member in case of concrete filled steel tube embedded in concrete for application concrete filled steel tube to steel rib support in tunnel. A total of six beam specimens were prepared for steel tube in-filled with plain concrete and aerated concrete, and static bending tests were performed. As a result, the member of concrete steel tube embedded with plain concrete showed higher strength than those with aerated concrete. However, it was found that the flexural strength of member with reinforcing bar around the steel tube is more influenced by the amount of the reinforcing bar than the type of the filled concrete.
The clustering environment with heterogeneous workstations provides the cost effectiveness and usability for executing applications in parallel. The load balancing is considered as a necessary feature for the clustering of heterogeneous workstations to minimize the turnaround time. Since each workstation may have different users, groups. requests for different tasks, and different processing power, the capability of each processing unit is relative to the others' unit in the clustering environment Previous works is a static approach which assign a predetermined weight for the processing capability of each workstation or a dynamic approach which executes a benchmark program to get relative processing capability of each workstation. The execution of the benchmark program, which has nothing to do with the application being executed, consumes the computation time and the overall turnaround time is delayed. In this paper, we present an efficient task distribution method and implementation of load balancing system for the clustering environment with heterogeneous workstations. Turnaround time of the methods presented in this paper is compared with the method without load balancing as well as with the method load balancing with performance evaluation program. The experimental results show that our methods outperform all the other methods that we compared.
