  • To investigate edge vegetation structure in the Mt. Sokri National Park, field survey was executed in August. 1990 and the result are as follows. Dominant edge species by crown-layer and smilarity of species composition seemed to be affected by existing upper layer vegetation, altitude aspect and physiographical location. and the edge vegetation at summit was severely different with one of the other environmental types. Species diversity of edge vegetation was highest at Northern midslope, lowest at Southern mid-slope. and Acer pseudo-sieboldiamun var. koreanum was appeared as a dominant species at all environmental types. Frequency classes of edge species were different by altitude, aspect, physiographicallocation. Acer pseudo-sieboldiamun var, koreanum, Quercus mongolica, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Lespedeza maximowiczii, Weigela subsessilis showed high frequency class at all environmental condition.

  • To investigate the vegetation structure of trail edges in Woraksan National Park, thirty nine plots on the five trails were surveyed. Dominant species in the tree layer on trails were Quercus mongolica, Pinus densiflora and Q. variabilis, but in the shrub layer, Lespedeza maximowiczii was a dominant species on the all trails except the Dongchang section even though five trails have different situations and use of strength. The similarity index between five trails was $41.6\5%\~66.50\%$. The edge species among trails in Woraksan National Park have a similar pattern.

  • To investigate edge vegetation structure and edge species in Kaya Mountain National Park, field survey was executed from July to August, 1989 and the result are as follows. Cantilevered and advancing types of edge vegetation were observed on site, The relative importance values of major species were changed along distance from edge to forest interior and were seemed to be affected by aspect, soil moisture and present tree layer vegetation. Especially, light-oriented species were observed as a codominant species under pine tree canopy due to selective allelopathy effect and thin canopy. Ecological indices according to the distance from edge to forest interior did not show regular pattern, but edge depth was estimated as 15-20m, approximately, Dominant species of edge seemed to be affected by soil moisture rather than altitude and aspect, but floristic similarities seemed to be affected by altitude. Frequency classes of edge species were different by aspect, altitude and physiogra-phical location. Lespedeza maximowiczii, Weigela subsessilis and Fraxinus rhynchophylla showed high frequency class in all environment conditions.

  • To investigate edge vegetation structure and species in the Chrisan National Park, filed survey was excuted from August to October, 1991 and the results were as follows. Importance values of species in lower layer were changed according to the distance from edge to forest interior at the northeastern slope of a highland. Change of vegetation structure was observed from edge up to 30m of forest interior and edge depth was estimated as 15~20m. The dominance and frequency of edge species seemed to be affected by the factors of altitude, aspect and topographic location. Especially, edge vegetation showed severe difference according to topographic location between a ridge and a foot of a mountain, and according to aspect between southern and northern slope above midslope region of a mountain. Comparing vegetation structure of lower layer for southern and northern slope, more no. of individuals and crown coverage were observed at northern slope, while more no. of species, species diversity and coverage of Sasa purpurascen at southern slope.

  • To investigate edge vegetation struxture and species in Odaesan National park, fild survey was excuted July 1-4, 1995 and the results were as follows. Species compasition of edge(0~10m) was dissimilar to that of forest interior(50m~60m) at (Mt.)Odaesan valley. Species diversity indices, number of species, crown coverage and number of individuals were decreased axxording to distance from edge to forest interior. Weigela subsessilis was appeared to be a competitive species at forest edge in temperate forest and edge species appeared only in Odaesan National Park were Clematis heracleaefolia and Spiraea blumei.

  • Eight major trails of Soraksan National Park were selected to investigate the use impacts on environmental edterioration of trail according to the different amount of use. The entire width, bare width, maximum depth and slope of trail as the trail condition surveyed at the total of 188 points were significantly greater on the more heavily-used trail. Major deterioration types of trail were root-exposure, widening, rock-exposure, divergence in order of frequency. And trail conditions of edteriorated points were significantly different from those of non-deteriorated points. The damaged area more severe than Class 4 on trail reached about 10,864m$^{2}$ in total, and especially about 4,560m$^{2}$ in the section between Huiunkak Shelter-Munomigogae trail. The dominant trees of trail edge vegetation were be Quercus mongolica in upper layer, but in lower lauer Carpinus laxiflora, Lespedeza maximowiczii for valley and Carpinus laxiflora, Ghododendron mucronulatum var. cilatum, Tripterygium regelii for ridge.. Especially coverage and number of individuals was highest on Munomighgae-Taech'ongbong trail of the largest use of amount, and each trail was dissimilar in species composition of lower layer of edge vegetation.
