Phylogenetic analyses were conducted to evaluate relationships of 5 taxa of Korean Hydrocotyle, H. spp. found in the Ulleung island including one outgroup (Centella asiatica). The molecular phylogenetic methods based on nuclear ribosomal DNA ITS region and cpDNA trnH-psbA region. Centella asiatica was used outgroup for analysis. As the result, genus Korean Hydrocotyle were grouped by 94% bootstrap value. Korean Hydrocotyle was grouped by four clades; Clade I-H. maritima, H. sibthorpides and H. yabei clade Clade II-H. nepalensis clade clade III-H. ramiflora clade clade IV-H. spp. clade. H. maritima, H. sibthorpides and H. yabei was not distinguished, seperately. H. spp. was distinctly distinguished other Korean Hydrocotyle.
Both Vapor-liquid equilibrium data and boiling temperature have been measured for ternary and each corresponding binaries of n.dodecane-1.decanol-1.dodecanol mixture under constant pressure of 15 mbar. Measured vapor-liquid equilibrium data were correlated with the conventional g$\^$E/ model ; Margules, van Laar, Wilson, NRTL and UNIQUAC equations. Binary equilibrium data were thermodynamically tested by Redlich-Kister integral method and ternary data were also qualitatively checked by two point consistency test, suggested by McDermott-Ellis. Among the binary VLE data, only the system n.dodecane-1.decanol has minimum boiling azeotrope.
To clarify the morphological variations of Galium, its morphological characteristics were examined using maximum parsimony analysis. The key characteristics as well as the range of variation in each characteristic were investigated at the species level and were employed to elucidate the relationships between the taxa. This study confirmed that species belonging to genus Galium formed a monophyletic group and comprised two main clades. Sect. Cymogaliae and sect. Leptogalium are polyphyly groups, and other sections are monophyletic group. This study also suggests that the fruit hairs, the types of petal apexes, and the colors of the petals are the most valuable taxonomic characteristics for differentiating different sections. The numbers of the leaves and leaf shape provide useful taxonomic characteristics for the identification of different species.
Multiple changes of the photosynthesis pathway are independent evolutionary events occurring in the phylogeny of flowering plants, and such changes have occurred more than five times in Cyperaceae. In the tribe Cypereae, the C4 photosynthetic pathway appeared only once and is regarded as a synapomorphy of the C4 plants within this tribe. The morphological delimitation of genera within Cypereae does not correspond to their molecular phylogenetic relationships. In this study, the molecular phylogeny was compared with the photosynthetic pathways of Korean Cypereae (18 species of Cyperus, 1 species of Kyllinga, and 1 species of Lipocarpha). The photosynthetic pathways were determined by observing the leaf anatomy. The phylogenetic analysis was performed using three DNA regions (nrITS, rbcL, and trnL-F). According to the position of the photosynthetic tissue, 4 species (C. difformis, C. flaccidus, C. haspan, and C. tenuispica) and 16 species (14 Cyperus species, K. brevifolia var. leiolepis, and L. microcephala) were confirmed as C3 and C4 plants, respectively. Tribe Cypereae was divided into the CYPERUS and FICINIA clades, and all species of Korean Cypereae plants belonged to the CYPERUS clade in the phylogenetic analysis. Within the CYPERUS clade, C4 plants were monophyletic but their phylogenetic relationships were unclear. The genera Kyllinga and Lipocarpha were not supported as an independent genus in either case because they were nested by the Cyperus species in the molecular phylogenetic trees in the present and in previous studies. To determine the classification within the CYPERUS clade, a detailed morphological study and a molecular phylogenetic analysis at a high resolution will be necessary.
Molecular phylogenetic studies were conducted to evaluate evolutionary trends, relationships and species identities among four species, one variety and one outgroup of the Korean Genus Calystegia. The important characteristics of Calystegia are the shape of the lamina, the length ofthe corolla and the presence of hair. However, many variations were observed as regards the characteristics of the leaf, making true identification difficult. In molecular phylogenetic studies, C. soldanella formed one clade, and it was located mostly in the base. C. hederacea and C. sepium did not form an independent clade in their ITS regions and psbA-trnH regions, and this investigation could not confirm a relationship. Therefore, a relationship between these two species is not sufficiently supported by these markers (ITS and psbA-trnH). Consequently, this research should be achieved through many samples and markers. C. sepium var. japonica and C. dahurica are closely related.
ITS DNA sequences from five individuals, representative of five groups designated according to the degree of leaf teeth and lobes from simple to palmate compound leaf in the Viola albida complex, established and further analysed in order to solve the taxonomic difficulty. A total 702 bp was sequenced at the 5.8S ribosomal DNA and internal transcribed spacer 1 and 2. The 5.8S coding region is 163 bp, and has no sequence variations. The ITS1 and ITS2 noncoding regions have a little bit sequence variations, and those were further analysed by the methods of the analysis of variance (ANOVA), the analysis of sequence divergence and the phylogenetic analysis. The result of ANOVA showed no significant differences among individuals investigated. The analysis of sequence divergence with Kimura 2-parameter distance revealed that in-groups showed much less than 0.05 in absolute value among individuals, while two out groups more than 0.05, V. grypoceras and V. orientalis. This result appeared that the sequence divergence among in-groups was not yet occurred in the species level but situated at somewhere below the species level. In the phylogenetic analysis, two outgroups formed the basal clades in order. Five individuals in-groups formed a clade. The clade was, however, not very robust as around 50% in bootstrap value, suggesting that this result was not meaningful in the phylogenetic point of views.
The genus Tilia is characterized by linear form bracts of which the lower part is attached to the peduncle of a cyme. This character is distinguished from the others genus of Malvaceae. The purpose of this study is verifying the phylogenetic relationship of genus Tilia. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted to evaluate relationships of 10 taxa of Tilia in Korea and Japan including one outgroup (Gossypium hirsutum). The molecular phylogenetic analyses were conducted with sequences based on ITS, trnL-F and rpl32-trnL region. The combined data result of ITS, trnL-F and rpl32-trnL was formed by 6 clades. T. kiusiana situated as the most basal clade. T. amurensis, T. taquetii and T. rufa are composed a clade. T. koreana, T. insularis and T. japonica was formed independent clade. T. insularis has the closest relationship with T. japonica. T. miqueliana, T. mandshurica, and T. megaphylla are composed a clade and showed a sister relationship than other species.

The purpose of this study is to review the taxonomic position of Taxus cuspidata var. latifolia endemic to Ulleung Island with related taxa T. cuspidata var. cuspidata, T. caespitosa, and T. cuspidata var. nana based on external morphological characters and DNA barcoding study. T. cuspidata var. latifolia was similar to T. cuspidata var. cuspidata in the arbor, straight trunk, and symmetric arrangement of leaf. But the unique differences between T. cuspidata var. latifolia and T. cuspidata var. cuspidata were leaf size and the exposure of seed from aril. Additionally, sequences of four chloroplast DNA regions including matK, rbcL, trnL intron and trnL-trnF spacer regions were analyzed. Korean Taxus species and their related taxon T. cuspidata var. nana were strongly supported as a monophyletic group in neighbor-joining analysis. Taxus cuspidata var. latifolia showed 100% sequence identity to related taxa. Korean endemic T. caespitosa is also distinguishable from related taxa by prostrate stems and spiral arrangement of leaf. The examinations of external morphology and DNA barcoding study suggest that the taxonomic position of T. cuspidata var. latifolia should be maintained as a variety of T. cuspidata.
Molecular phylogenetic analysis was conducted to evaluate the taxonomic relationships of genus Arisaema L. distributed in Korea and the molecular phylogenetic characteristics of three authentic Arisaema species for the herbal medicine Arisaematis Rhizoma (the rhizomes of A. amurense, A. heterophyllum, and A. erubescens). The sequences of three DNA barcodes (rDNA-ITS, matK, and rbcL) were analyzed using 50 samples of nine taxa consisted of eight Korean and one Chinese Arisaema with one outgroup (Dracunculus vulgaris). Both individual and combined phylogenetic analyses of three DNA barcode sequences revealed that the treated nine taxa are independently classified into six distinct clades (Clade I, A. amurense f. amurense and A. amurense f. serratum; Clade II, A. serratum and A. takesimense; Clade III, A. ringens; Clade IV, A. erubescens; Clade V, A. heterophyllum; Clade VI, A. thunbergii subsp. thunbergii and A. thunbergii subsp. geomundoense). These six clades were reasonably divided into three individual sections, Pedatisecta, Sinarisaema, and Tortuosa. Futhermore, the results of comparative DNA barcode sequences analyses provided a significant information for the taxonomic reconsideration of Arisaema L. at the specific and intraspecific level. However, we could not confirm the taxonomic characteristics or identity among the three authentic medicinal species through the molecular phylogenetic analyses of genus Arisaema L. for Arisaematis Rhizoma.
