  • In this paper, we have proposed an image contrast control method using brightness preserving on the FPD(Flat Panel Display). The proposed method can be easily applied to the FPD required real-time processing, since hardware complexity is greatly reduced using linear approximation method of CDF(Cumulative Density Function). For effective processing of the proposed algorithm, we have utilized the sample value of CDF and Barrel Shift. Visual test and standard deviation of their histogram have been introduced to evaluate the resultant output images of the pro-posed method and the original ones.

  • In this paper, new contrast enhancement algorithms that use temporal decimation method and approximated CDF(Cumulative Distribution Function) are proposed. They reduce the amount of computation which is required for image contrast enhancement. Simulation results show that the algorithms can achieve significant reduction in the computational cost and the hardware complexity. Visual test and standard deviation of their histogram have been introduced to evaluate the resultant output images of the proposed method and the original ones.

  • Magnetic survey flights by helicopters are usually parallel to the topographic surface, with a nominal clearance, but especially in high-resolution surveys the altitudes at which observations are made may be too variable to be regarded as a smooth surface. We have developed a reduction procedure for such data using the method of equivalent sources, where surrounding sources are included to control edge effects, and data from points distributed randomly in three dimensions are directly modelled. Although the problem is generally underdetermined, the method of conjugate gradients can be used to find a minimum-norm solution. There is freedom to select the harmonic function that relates the magnetic anomaly with the source. When the upward continuation function operator is selected, the equivalent source is the magnetic anomaly itself. If we select as source a distribution of magnetic dipoles in the direction of the ambient magnetic field, we can easily derive reduction-to-pole anomalies by rotating the direction of the magnetic dipoles to vertical.

  • Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), launched in April, 2002, makes it possible to monitor Earth's mass redistribution with its time-varying gravity observation. GRACE provides monthly gravity solutions as coefficients of spherical harmonics, and thus ones need to convert the gravity spectrum to gravity grids (or mass grids) via the spherical harmonics. GRACE gravity solutions, however, include spatial alias error as well as noise, which requires to suppress in order to enhance signal to noise ratio. In this study, we present the GRACE data processing procedures and introduce some applications of time-varying gravity, which are studies of terrestrial water storage changes, Antarctic and Greenland ice melting, and sea level rise. Satellite missions such as GRACE will continue up to early 2020, and they are expected to be an essential resource to understand the global climate changes.

  • In this paper the quantitative classification parameters of terrain which can be practicable to the interpolation of digital terrain model forming a regular grid pattern have been suggested and objective terrain classification have been established by making a cluster analysis using these parameters. Also, interpolation suitable to the classification of terrain has been used by making a descriminant alaysis from description parameters of terrains. The terrain classification in this paper was dependent upon two parameters of the ratio horizontal area to inclined area and the magnitude of harmonic vectors. And the studying area was seperated to three groups of terrains by these two parameters. Three groups of terrains could be classified into the discriminant functions. By determining the ratio of area and harmonic vector magnitude in any terrains using the above discriminant function, it was possible to discriminate the terrains to apply the interpolation practicable to the terrain characteristics.

  • A mathematical model for the dynamic analysis of the riser system is developed to investigate the effect of internal flow on the free vibration of marine riser system which includes a steady flow inside the pipe. A semi-analytical method using series expansion is employed to derive Eigenvalue problem to facilitate the evaluation of the system frequencies, and its validity is given through the comparison of the solutions with the conventional method using system matrices. The algorithm is implemented to develop computer programs for the estimation of the system frequency. The investigations of the effect of internal flow on system frequency are performed according to the change of parameters such as top tension, internal flow velocity, and so on. It is found that the effect of internal flow can be controlled by the increase of top tension. However, careful consideration has to be given in the design point, particularly for the long riser.

  • The paper describes a theoretical study on the speed of the torsional elastic waves propagating in a circular cylinder whose outer radius varies periodically as a harmonic function of the axial coordinate. The approximate solution for the phase speed has been obtained using the perturbation technique for sinusoidal modulation of small amplitude. It is shown that the wave speed in the cylinder with a corrugated outer surface is less than that in a smooth cylinder by the square of the amplitude of the surface perturbation. This theoretical prediction agrees reasonably with an experimental observation reported earlier. It is also shown that the wave speed reduction due to the surface corrugation becomes larger for a thinner cylinder and for a bigger density of corrugation.

  • The purpose of this study was to estimate that the relations of weathering speed and shear strength of granite soil by tracing the weathering depth of granite soil from the very moment of its cutting. The results obtained this follows : This paper is about seismic performance of the EDF(Electricite De France) system, that is among various base isolator. A rational modeling of EDF system has been presented that used Nllink element. We get theoretical solutions of equation of motion of the system and compared with numerical solutions using a finite element program. The unification modeling is made by comparing with behavior using Newmark-${\beta}$ method when input earthquake acceleration data. Thus, a verified modeling will apply bridge structures or multi-degree of-freedom systems.

  • A Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation is proposed for probabilistic full waveform inversion (FWI) in a layered half-space. Dynamic responses on the half-space surface are estimated using the thin-layer method when a harmonic vertical force is applied. Subsequently, a posterior probability distribution function and the corresponding objective function are formulated to minimize the difference between estimations and observed data as well as that of model parameters from prior information. Based on the gradient of the objective function, a proposal distribution and an acceptance probability for MCMC samples are proposed. The proposed MCMC simulation is applied to several layered half-space examples. It is demonstrated that the proposed MCMC simulation for probabilistic FWI can estimate probabilistic material properties such as the shear-wave velocities of a layered half-space.
