Exploring the direction of mathematics education to improve the affective achievement of students (학생의 정의적 성취 신장을 위한 수학교육 개선 방향 탐색)

  • It has been alerted that Korean students' mathematical affective achievement is very low. In order to solve this problem, various policies related to mathematical affective domains have been promoted, but it is necessary to examine various existing policies and explore the direction for improving them in more essential aspects. Based on previous studies that the growth mindset helps to increase students' affective achievement, this study focused on improving students' math-related growth mindset and ultimately exploring policies that can increase mathematical affective achievement. Therefore, the current status of mathematical affective achievement of Korean students was examined, and the policies and related cases in the mathematical affective domain were investigated. Based on the results, some keywords were derived and then the directions of policy for improving the math-related growth mindset and the affective achievement of students were suggested.

Elementary School Students Who Give Up on Learning Mathematics: Correlations with Non-cognitive Learner Characteristics (초등학생의 수학학습 포기 인식과 정의적 요인 연관성 분석)

  • An increasing number of students are giving up on learning mathematics at all grade levels, including elementary school. The study in this paper considers seven non-cognitive student characteristics to identify which are strongly correlated with giving up on mathematics at the elementary school level. Data were collected with a survey on the non-cognitive domain of mathematics learning that was developed by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity in 2015. The data were collected from 3,636 elementary school students in Korea, and we analyzed the data using the statistical computing program R. Of the seven components, efficacy and interest have a strong correlation with students' tendency to profess that they have given up trying to learn mathematics. The findings of the study shed light on which non-cognitive domain areas mathematics teachers need to pay more attention to in order to make their teaching effective. This study further investigated the correlation between responses to each of the 24 survey items and students' claim that they have given up on mathematics. Using the 8 items with the highest correlations, we have developed a shorter, 8-item version of the survey, which will be useful for similar future studies.

The Effects of STEAM Program Using Landslide on High School Students' Affective Domain (산사태에 관한 STEAM 프로그램이 고등학생들의 정의적 영역에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of STEAM program on affective domain in high school students. For this purpose, we developed a STEAM program based on 'Landslide and Life' and applied it to 16 members of science club in high school for 7 weeks. We conducted a pre- and post-test of students' scientific attitude in affective domain. We also conducted a survey and in-depth interview about the STEAM program after the implementation of the program. Regarding scientific attitude, the STEAM program found positive on students' increased interest, value, confidence, and general attitude about science. Results of the program evaluation questionnaire, depicted that the most response was made to an item that the program was much helpful in affective domain and that there were positive changes in cognitive domain.

The Effects of a Performance Assessment Based on the Experimental Practice on Student's Science Achievement and Affective Domain in the Middle School Science (실험실습법에 의한 수행평가가 중학생의 과학성취도 및 정의적 영역에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an application of the experimental practice which is one of the performance assessments on student's science achievement and affective domain in the middle school science For this study, two classes were chosen from a co-ed middle school in Gimhae, and assigned to the experimental and the control groups. Prior to the instructions, a science achievement test and a affective domain test were administered. After the instructions, post-tests which were similar to the pretests were also administered. The results showed that the performance assessment based on an experimental practice was more effective of enhancing students' science achievement. However, there was no significant difference in an affective domain test between the two groups. For the control group, there was a significant difference between the pretest and post test in affective domain. It means that there was a negative change in affective domain of the control group.

  • TIMSS-R 등 국제적 검사 결과로부터 알 수 있듯이 우리 학생들의 수학교과에 대한 정의적 영역의 성취도는 매우 낮은 실정이다. 진정한 의미의 수학적 힘은 인지적 영역과 함께 정의적 영역에 대한 의미 있는 학습을 통해서 길러진다는 사실을 생각할 때, 이는 우리 수학교육이 당면하고 있는 심각한 문제점이 아닐 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 이미 밝혀진 수학 기피요인들을 이용하여 학년이 올라감에 따라서 우리 학생들의 수학적 성향이 어떻게 변화하는지를 살펴보고 수학적 성향의 교육과 관련하여 몇 가지 제안을 하였다.

  • 본 연구는 ATM 시스템 개발에 있어서 인간-기계 계면체계에 더 적합한 설계 계획을 위한 새로 운 인간영역에 관한 정의이다. ATM은 광대역 종합정보통신망에 사용될 비동기 전송방식 교환시 스템으로 인간-기계 시스템 상호작용에 있어서 인간 운용자에게 높은 신뢰성과 양호한 적응성이 강력히 요구된다. 대형 통신시스템의 설계영역 정의에 대한 이런 관점은 다음과 같은 관련 영역 을 포함하고 있다: 인간-기계 시스템의 구성요소: 객체지향적 설계 계획: 인간 프로세서 체계 모 형의 영역: 인지작용의 원칙: 인간오류 행위의 영역 등 이다. 또한, 제안하는 지식베이스 체계 는 인간-기계 계면기능의 평가에 있어서 인간지향적 오류의 진단분석을 유용하게 할 수 있다. 이 적합한 인간지향적 영역 정의는 ATM 통신 교환체계의 운용보전에 있어서 적합한 설계영역을 위한 주요한 지식기반이 될 것이며, 사용자에 편리한 운용체계의 개발로 효율적인 성과를 가져 올 것 이다.

The Impact of the Library Tour Program on the Pre-librarians' Affective Domain (도서관 견학 프로그램이 예비사서의 정의적 영역에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of the library tour program on pre-librarians' perception as librarians, and to present the educational meaning of library tour program for pre-librarians. For doing this, the 29 pre-librarians participated in library tour are surveyed before and after library tour program. The results revealed that the library tour program for pre-librarians is proved to have the educational effects that establish the per-librarians' attitudes toward positive librarian job performance. It's meaningful that this study presents the educational effects of library tour program to pre-librarians.

  • The purpose of this study is to synthesize a comprehensive and general conclusion about the effects of mathematics classes using peer tutoring on the cognitive (mathematics learning achievement) and affective domains. For this purpose, a total of 61 individual studies were meta-analyzed in this study to calculate the effect size, measuring the strength of the relationship between mathematics classes using peer tutoring and either the cognitive or affective domain. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that mathematics classes using peer tutoring generally have a medium effect size in both cognitive and affective domains. Also, it was found that level of school, type of student, learning location, class time, tutor education or prior training are significant variables that affect the impact of mathematics classes using peer tutoring on the cognitive and affective domains. These results suggest specific ideas on how to design and operate peer tutoring in school mathematics classes on the basis of different variables.

  • purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Small-Scale Chemistry(below SSC) Lab Program on academic achievement and science-related affective domain of high school students. For this study, SSC Lab Program was developed on the basis of analyzing the chemistry part of the high school science textbook in the 7th curriculum. The experimental group was received SSC experiment lessons(below SSC group), and the comparison group was received traditional lessons. According to the result of this study, there was a significant difference (p<.01) between a SSC group and a comparison group in academic achievement. Also, there were significant differences in science-related affective domain, especially interest and scientific attitude. It showed that SSC Lab Program was more effective to improve the academic achievement and science-related affective domain. Student perceptions on SSC Lab Program were also discussed. Majority of students thought that SSC lab program was an effective and interesting way in science study.

  • 2015 개정 교육과정에 따라 초등학교 및 중학교에 프로그래밍 교육이 필수로 도입된다. 그러나 과거 5차 교육과정에도 프로그래밍 교육이 도입되었지만 지속되지 못했다. 프로그래밍 교육이 지속 가능하기 위해서는 다양한 요인을 고려하여 프로그래밍 학습 환경을 설계해야한다. 특히 학생들의 흥미, 관심, 그리고 긍정적인 태도등의 정의적 요인을 고려하여 교수학습 방법을 적용하는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구는 학생들에게 프로그래밍 교육을 어떻게 가르치는 것이 정의적 영역에 긍정적인 영향을 주는지 다양한 프로그래밍 교육 연구를 메타 분석하여 시사점을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 학습자들이 프로그래밍 교육을 통해 얻은 정의적 영역의 교육 효과를 교수학습 방법별로 메타 분석하였다. 프로그래밍 교육과 관련하여 수집한 연구 논문은 메타 분석 방법에 따라 단계별로 연구 자료를 추출하고 선정하는 절차를 통해 분석하였다.
