A survey was conducted to collect data from foodservice managers (N=231). Statistical analyses were completed using SPSS Win (16.0) for descriptive analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, t-test, correlation analysis, cluster analysis and AMOS (16.0) for confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) has been on the radar screens of many leaders and managers over the last several decades. The emotional intelligence is generally accepted to be a combination of emotional and interpersonal competencies that influence behavior, thinking and interaction with others. The main results of this study were as follows. The four EI (Emotional Intelligence) dimensions correlated significantly with age. The means of job satisfaction score were above the midpoint (3.04 point) scale. The organizational commitment score was above the midpoint (3.41 point) scale and was higher at 'loyalty' factor than 'commitment' factor. The means of organizational performance score were above the midpoint (3.34) scale. The correlations among the four EI (emotional intelligence) factors were significant with job satisfaction; organizational commitment, organizational performance and turnover intention. The test of hypothesis using structural equation modeling found that emotional intelligence produced positive effects on job attitude and job performance. Emotional intelligence enhanced organizational commitment, and in turn, managers' attitude produced positive effects on organizational performance; emotional intelligence also had a direct impact on organizational performance. This study has identified the effect of emotional intelligence on organizational performance and attitudes toward one's job.

  • The study aims were to verify the influences of job environment factors and work attitude on turnover intention of school foodservice employees, and then to verify the mediating effect of organization commitment between six areas of worklife and turnover intention so that organizations can intervene to reduce the turnover intentions of employees. The subjects were 205 employees who were working in the school foodservice field. The job environment factors were measured by six areas of worklife (workload, control, reward, fairness, community, value) and the organizational commitment was measured by two types of commitments (affective, continuance). The results were as follows. First, workload, reward, community and value of six areas of worklife reduced affective commitment, control and fairness increased continuance commitment, and affective commitment reduced turnover intention. Second, only reward and community showed direct effect on turnover intention, but all six areas of worklife had a statistically significant indirect effect on turnover intention through affective commitment. These results showed that job environment factors had both direct and indirect effect on employees' behavior through employees' affection. These findings imply that organizations can control employees' turnover intention by providing education or social support to maintain their affective commitment even when organizations cannot change job environment.

Furthermore, how these factors can affect the emotional commitment through perceived service quality and social interaction will be studied as well. In addition, the moderating effects of the individual characteristics at the perception of servicescape, such as optimum stimulation level and social appropriateness will be studied together. The results show that the physical factor of servicescape is one of the most important elements that affect "emotional commitment" and under this process; the perceived service quality is performed as a parameter. Besides, the social factor of servicescape, such as the other customer and companion affect can also affect emotional commitment through social interaction. On the other hand, through the analysis of optimum stimulation level and social appropriateness, we found that the higher the social appropriateness, the greater the effect of servicescape. Overall, in order to enhance the customer's emotional commitment, we must build high quality servicescape, meanwhile; the management of other customers and the companion are needed at the same time.
