  • We analyzed the ferromagnetic and spin wave resonance signals measured in amorphous CoFeB thin films with different thickness. The ferromagnetic resonance field ($H_{FMR}$) was not depend on the thickness of CoFeB films, but the spin wave resonance field ($H_{SWR}$) was well fitted with the theoretical prediction depending on the thickness. The uniaxial anisotropy field of $H_k$ = 37 Oe was obtained from the angular dependent $H_{FMR}$ in CoFeB films. The $H_{SWR}$ showed same angular behaviors with $H_{FMR}$, however, the amplitude of spin wave resonance signals showed 5.7 times higher than that of ferromagnetic resonance signals in CoFeB film with t = 100 nm. The higher signals were due to the two reasons; one was the small damping for the spin wave propagation without degradation, the other was uniform magnetization for the ideal standing wave modes.

  • This paper studies modeling of Jeju 80kV HVDC system and its controller by using PSCAD/EMTDC program. Reduced ac network is applied to verify interaction between ac network and dc system. Design parameter is applied to the converter transformer, harmonic filter and dc transmisstion line to simulate dc system. HVDC controller is divided into a rectifier controller and a inverter controller according to the converter operating mode. The inverter controller is composed of current control, voltage control and extingtion angle control. The rectifier controller is composed of current control and voltage control. Both controller has VDCOL characteristics so that current order is dependant on voltage variation. Step response, ac network single phase fault, three phase fault is simulated to verify the dynamic performance of controller model in both transient state and steady state.

  • A hardware implementation of phase calculator for extracting 3D depth image from TOF(Time-Of-Flight) sensor is described. The designed phase calculator adopts redundant binary number systems and a pipelined architecture to improve throughput and speed. It performs arctangent operation using vectoring mode of DCORDIC(Differential COordinate Rotation DIgital Computer) algorithm. Fixed-point MATLAB simulations are carried out to determine the optimal bit-widths and number of iteration. The phase calculator has ben verified by FPGA-in-the-loop verification using MATLAB/Simulink. A test chip has been fabricated using a TSMC $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS process, and test results show that the chip functions correctly. It has 82,000 gates and the estimated throughput is 400 MS/s at 400Mhz@1.8V.

  • The aeroelastic characteristics of a wing with control surface freeplay are investigated. The transonic small disturbance equation is used for unsteady aerodynamic forces in subsonic/transonic region. The fictitious mass method is introduced to apply a modal approach to nonlinear structural models. Nonlinear aeroelastic time responses are calculated by the coupled time integration method. Using these methods, an efficient aeroelastic analysis is achieved for aerodynamic and structural nonlinearities simultaneously. The effects of the aerodynamic nonlinearity, initial flap amplitude, and freeplay magnitude in aeroelastic characteristics are investigated in this study.

  • We propose a low-power and high-speed client receiver for a mobile display digital interface (MDDI) newly in this paper. The low-power receiver is designed such that bias currents, sink and source currents, are insensitive to variations of power supply, process, temperature, and common-mode input voltage (VCM) and is able to operate at a rate of 450Mbps or above under the conditions of a power supply range of 3.0 to 3.6Vand a temperature range of -40 to 85$^{\circ}$C. And it is confirmed by a simulation result that the current dissipation is less than 500${\mu}$A. A test chip is manufactured with the Magna chip 0.35${\mu}$m CMOS process. When a test was done, the data receiver and data recovery circuits are functioning normally.

  • This paper presents a new rotor position estimation method for brushless DC motors. It is clear that the estimation error of the rotor position provokes the phase shift angle misaligned between the phase current and the back-EMF waveforms, which causes torque ripple in brushless DC motor drives. Such an estimation error can be reduced with the help of the proposed neutral voltage-based estimation method that is structured in the form of a closed loop observer. A neutral voltage appearing during the normal mode of the inverter operation is found to be an observable and controllable measure, which can be dealt with for estimating an exact rotor position. This neutral voltage is obtained from the DC-link current, the switching logic, and the motor speed values. The proposed algorithm, which can be implemented easily by using a single DC-link current and the motor terminal voltage sensors, is verified by simulation and experiment results.

  • Composite motor cases fabricated by the filament winding method are structurally weak in the dome when they are required to withstand the internal pressure of the combustion gas. In this study, a finite element analysis is conducted to compare the burst pressure of a composite dome according to the variation of the pressure distribution ratio(PDR). The performance of the composite motor case was compared quantitatively by calculating the stress on the inner and outer dome surfaces and metal boss volume. As a result, the critical point of the failure mode was observed at a PDR between 2.5 and 3.0. A design at a PDR of 2.5-3.5 can reduce the weight of metal boss without fluctuation in the burst pressure of the combustion motor case. Moreover as the design reference value changes according to the dome shape and opening size, further analysis and testing are necessary.

  • In this paper, there is summarized the validation of ground test results through the telemetry acquired during on-orbit initial activation on solar-array drive assembly(SDA) of GK2A launched at Dec-5, 2018. Especially, the decision logic of SDA initial position and the compensation logic are validated and confirmed. The SDA initial position is needed when GK2A enter to geostationary orbit from transfer orbit and the compensation logic is for the accumulated position error due to the open-loop control. Up to now, it is normal operating. Also the periodic offset between the geostationary orbit and Sun position is found that it is not checked on design phase, and then the proper threshold value is applied.

  • A systematic study of Bloch surface wave (BSW), which is created by guided mode resonance (GMR) of dielectric multilayer structures with a grating profile, is presented to analyze the sensing performance of bio-sensors. The effect of structural parameters on optical behavior is evaluated by using Babinet's principle and modal transmission-line theory. The sensitivity of designed bio-sensors is proportional to the grating constant at wavelength spectrum, and inversely proportional to the normal wave vector of incident electromagnetic wave at angular spectrum. Numerical results for two devices with SiO/SiO2 and TiO2/SiO2 multilayer dielectric stacks are presented, showing that BSW can be exploited for the realization of efficient diffraction-based bio-sensors from infrared to visible-band range.

  • The propulsion system of geostationary orbiting satellites is typically used to raise the orbit into a transfer orbit, maintain the orbital position in the south/north, east/west direction in regular operation, and accumulate momentum in the south/north and east/west direction. Recently, when an electric propulsion system is used in a geostationary orbit satellite, the payload capacity can be increased by about 40% compared to a chemical propulsion system. However, despite these advantages, using an electric propulsion system has several limitations that should apply to all geostationary orbiting satellites. This paper discusses the operational constraints to consider when developing an indigenous geostationary satellite using a fully electric propulsion, radiation exposure, and control mechanism design due to unit displacement and floating ground-design. A high-voltage control unit for electric drives were analyzed.
