  • Recently, the biometric recognition technology of veins in different parts of hand is very active. In this paper the image hierarchical slicing provides a way to detect vein patterns. The scanned vein image will be sliced into various thicknesses. We first get the average brightness values of the sliced image and then convert them into curvature where we can detect candidates of the vein. The candidates of the vein are used to do a further analysis. We search all of the vein candidates and analyze them to get the real vein pattern in the overlapping extraction. We propose this novel algorithm to detect the vein pattern from the original image.

  • In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for personal identification of dorsal surface pattern of hand vein pattern using graph theory. Using dense ranee data images of the hand vein pattern, we used matching algorithm within the frame work of graph theory for the determination of the desired correspondence. Through preprocessing, the captured images are more sharp, clear and thinning. After thinning, the images are normalized and make graph with node and edge set. This normalized graph can make adjacent matrix. Each adjacent matrix from individual vein pattern are different. From examining the performance of individual vein patterns, we can approach performances well kind biometric technique.

  • Intravenous injection is the most frequent invasive treatment for inpatients and is widely used for parenteral nutrition administration and blood products, and more than 1 billion procedures are used for peripheral catheter insertion, blood collection, and other IV therapy per year. Intravenous injection is one of the difficult procedures to be performed only by trained nurses with intravenous injection training, and failure can lead to thrombosis and hematoma or nerve damage to the vein. Accordingly, studies on auxiliary equipment capable of visualizing the vein structure of the back of the hand or arm are being published to reduce errors during intravenous injection. This study is a study on the performance difference according to the number of LEDs irradiating the 850nm wavelength band on a vein detector that visualizes the vein during intravenous injection. Four LED PCBs were produced by attaching NIR filters to CCD and CMOS camera lenses irradiated on the skin to acquire images, sharpen the acquired images using image processing algorithms, and project the sharpened images onto the skin. After that, each PCB was attached to the front end of the vein detector to detect the vein image and create a performance comparison questionnaire based on the vein image obtained for performance evaluation. The survey was conducted on 20 nurses working at K Hospital.

  • In this paper, we developed a system with a near-infrared LED light source with a wavelength of 950nm to acquire palm vein images and a white LED light source to acquire palm creases based on Raspberry Pi. In addition, we implemented a unique pattern-extractable image processing technology that can prevent counterfeiting and enhance security of mixed creases and palmprints through image pre-processing (Gray scaling, Histogram Equalization, Blurring, Thresholding, Thinning) for the acquired vein and palm images, and secured a source technology that can be used in a security-enhanced system.

  • In this paper, we present a improved algorithm for thinning vein pattern. The vein image scanned using near infra-red is sliced in the horizontality or verticality direction, and then average value is gained from each slice image. Using curvature value changed from average value, search candidate part and extract vein pattern through re-searched candidate part in overlapping area. For the extracted vein pattern connecting, we proposed a DAL method that verify distance, angle and luminosity on pattern before tracking pattern extracted. The proposed improved thinning method is helpful for accurate connecting of vein pattern more than method used distance material in candidate part.

  • Purpose : To compare the arterial and venous detection sites of triggering methods in contrast-enhanced-MR-venography (CE-MRV) for the evaluation of intracranial venous system. Materials and Methods: 41 healthy patients underwent CE-MRV with autotriggering at either the cavernous segment of internal carotid artery with an inserted time-delay of 6 seconds (n = 20) or the superior sagittal sinus without any timedelay (n = 21). 0.1 mmol/kg gadolinium-based contrast material ($Magnevist^{(R)}$, Schering, Germany) was intravenously injected by hand injection. A sagittal fast-spoiled-gradient-echo-sequence ranging from one ear to the other was performed (TR/TE5.2/1.5, Matrix $310{\times}310$, 124 sections in the 15-cm-thick volume). 17 predefined venous structures were evaluated on all venograms by two neuroradiologists and defined as completely visible, partially visible, or none visible. Results: The rate of completely visible structures were 272 out of 323 (84%) in the arterial triggering CE-MRV and 310 out of 340 (91%) in the venous triggering CE-MRV. The venous triggering CE-MRV demonstrated an overall superior visualization of the cerebral veins than the arterial triggering CE-MRV (Fisher exact test, p < 0.006). Conclusion: CE-MRV using venous autotriggering method provides higher-quality images of the intracranial venous structures compared to that of arterial.

  • Recently, the finger vein recognition based on NIR and CCD sensor camera is investigating the technology to identify a personal using by biometrics. The performance difference of finger vein recognition is generated according to methods that are to separate the vein and background from noises such as finger thickness, ambient light, skin temperature, etc. To improve these problems, in this study, we are proposing the methods for rotation, ROI extraction, and enhancement of vein image captured by NIR LED and CCD camera, and were evaluated performances of these methods. In results of the experiment, the accuracy of the proposed method for image rotation and ROI extraction was 99.8%. And the proposed filter bank method in vein enhancement has shown better performance than retinex algorithm. The proposed method for results of these experimentations will provide better recognition rate when applied to the preprocessing of finger vein recognition.

  • In this paper, we implement an identification system using the vein image of the hand. The vein pattern is obtained in the grey-scale 2D image through the infrared-red imaging from back of the hand. Since the frame has lack of clearance, we use some enhancing methods such as the complement, addition, and multiplication to the image to increase the contrast. After Wiener filtering for smoothness of the vein pattern, we transform the image into the binary image with mean function. The binarized image is session thinned and the cross-points in the vein tree are obtained by calculating the number of pixels connected because the image is shaped as a tree. We choose the point and find the nearest to the center if it has majority, where we find the two end points of the selected line. We can get the angle between the two lines joined at the cross-point and store its coordinates, angle, and label the values. The values are used as the feature vector of the vein pattern. This procedure is similar to the human cognition sequences. It is shown that the proposed method is simple for the vein recognition.

  • In order to prevent and block infectious diseases caused by the recent COVID-19 pandemic, non-contact biometric information acquisition and analysis technology is attracting attention. The invasive and attached biometric information acquisition method accurately has the advantage of measuring biometric information, but has a risk of increasing contagious diseases due to the close contact. To solve these problems, the non-contact method of extracting biometric information such as human fingerprints, faces, iris, veins, voice, and signatures with automated devices is increasing in various industries as data processing speed increases and recognition accuracy increases. However, although the accuracy of the non-contact biometric data acquisition technology is improved, the non-contact method is greatly influenced by the surrounding environment of the object to be measured, which is resulting in distortion of measurement information and poor accuracy. In this paper, we propose a context-based bio-signal modeling technique for the interpretation of personalized information (image, signal, etc.) for bio-information analysis. Context-based biometric information modeling techniques present a model that considers contextual and user information in biometric information measurement in order to improve performance. The proposed model analyzes signal information based on the feature probability distribution through context-based signal analysis that can maximize the predicted value probability.
