  • This study aims to find an optimal method for the mobile map application to provide directions by analyzing users' behavior in wayfinding and the information referenced in the direction-finding tasks. The mobile application provided information such as 'the name of the store on the first floor,' 'current location and directions to proceed if there are multi-branching roads,' and 'alleyways.' In the visual representation of information, the application should pay attention to 'landmark elements such as subway station exits and bus stops,' 'the color of crosswalks and overpasses,' 'division between sidewalks and driveways,' and 'entry to the subway stations.' For the mobile map application to provide intuitive interaction, it is necessary to specify 'the direction toward the destination,' 'the possible rotation of the map screen,' and 'the big roads' preference guidance.'

  • Recently, e-scooters have been attracting attention as eco-friendly modes of transportation in cities due to an increasing interest in the environment. Accordingly, various studies on usage behavior are being conducted, but studies that reflect individual travel attitudes are insufficient. Therefore, this study surveyed commuters in Seoul and analyzed respondents' traveling attitudes through factor analysis. It also built a binary logistic regression model for the intention to use shared e-scooters to determine how individual travel behaviors are affected. In particular, the model results showed that age, the main mode of transportation (car), walking time to the bus stop, and four travel attitude variables (disutility of travel, preference to self-drive, internet/smartphone friendliness, and willingness to pay extra money for services) significantly affected the intention to use shared e-scooters. This study is expected to be used as basic data, with aspect to travel behavior, for the efficient operation and use of shared e-scooters in the future.

  • Considering the number of population commuting from Gyeonggi to Seoul, the development of the bus system is relatively slow. There are many problems to be solved but it has been overlooked, leaving the users in discomfort. The goal of this research is to improve the current system to satisfy the unmet needs, using HCI methods, which is composed of five steps, including Define, Find, Analyze & Synthesize, Ideation, Develop. In Define, we recruited the interviewees using the extreme user method to find their needs. In Find, we proceeded 'be the customer', shadowing for background research and in-depth interview. In Analyze & Synthesis, we analyzed the customer needs and clustered to similar needs to draw useful ideas. After that we suggested sophisticated ideas based on design principles from previous stage and visualized in user scenarios and mock-ups. Overall, the research suggests with text message service, informative light service and mobile application to improve the existing bus station.

  • Some previous researches suggested a transit trip destination inference method by constructing trip chains with incomplete(missing destination) smart card dataset obtained on the entry fare control systems. To explore the feasibility of the transit trip destination inference method, the transit trip chains are constructed from the pre-paid smart card tagging data collected in Busan on October 2014 weekdays by tracing the card IDs, tagging times(boarding, alighting, transfer), and the trip linking distances between two consecutive transit trips in a daily sequences. Assuming that most trips in the transit trip chains are linked successively, the individual transit trip destination zones are inferred as the consecutive linking trip's origin zones. Applying the model to the complete trips with observed OD reveals that about 82% of the inferred trip destinations are the same as those of the observed trip destinations and the inference error defined as the difference in distance between the inferred and observed alighting stops is minimized when the trip linking distance is less than or equal to 0.5km. When applying the model to the incomplete trips with missing destinations, the overall destination missing rate decreases from 71.40% to 21.74% and approximately 77% of the destination missing trips are the single transit trips for which the destinations can not be inferable. In addition, the model remarkably reduces the destination missing rate of the multiple incomplete transit trips from 69.56% to 6.27%. Spearman's rank correlation and Chi-squared goodness-of-fit tests showed that the ranks for transit trips of each zone are not significantly affected by the inferred trips, but the transit trip distributions only using small complete trips are significantly different from those using complete and inferred trips. Therefore, it is concluded that the model should be applicable to derive a realistic transit trip patterns in cities with the incomplete smart card data.

  • This study was conducted in order to evaluate the characteristics of air temperature fluctuation inside the Daegeumgul, Ondaldonggul, and Seongnyugul Caves, which are the most representative limestone caves in Korea, and also to assess the effects of air temperature on cave temperature. Temperature was measured hourly at three sites in Daegeumgul, Ondaldonggul, and Seongnyugul Caves from April 13 to June 25, 2019. Additionally, air temperature data for the areas around the caves was provided by the Meteorological Administration. Using this collected data, the basic statistical measure of fluctuation characteristics over time was ascertained, and time series analyses were performed. Wide variation of temperature was exhibited in the order of the cave entrance, the cave water inflow point, and the midpoint. Cave temperature was observed to increase gradually during the study period. There was a vast range in temperature at the Daegeumgul station located approximately 150 m outside the cave, but it remained nearly constant beyond the midpoint. Although the effect of air temperature was not significant due to the influence of visitors, the effect of air temperature on cave temperature gradually decreased from the entrance to the interior. At Ondaldonggul, there was a wide range in temperature recorded at the entrance due to the influence of air temperature, but it stayed almost constant in the interior. However, at the site where cave water flows into the cave, temperature was influenced by the cave water temperature. At Seongnyugul, there was a distinct fluctuation in temperature recorded at the cave entrance, while the middle of the cave remained nearly constant. Temperature fluctuated due to the air temperature at the entrance, while at the middle of the cave, measurements were expected to be affected to a greater extent by the lake water temperature than by the air temperature. However, this pattern was not observed. According to the time series analysis results, in all caves, fluctuations of air temperature affected cave temperature after approximately one hour. Cave size and structure, water presence, the entrance's size and shape, air flow, and visitor patterns can all influence cave temperature. Therefore, consideration of these factors is very important in the pursuit to clearly understand cave temperature characteristics.

  • Single family houses are the traditional & typical type of house in human history. But there had been little attention to single family houses in Korea so that there was little studies on single family houses. This study aimed to analyse price determinants of single family houses in Seoul, using Quantile Regression Analysis(QRA). Because single family houses has large levels of price, quantile regression analysis is more proper than Ordinary Least Square(OLS). The Results of analysis showed that, land coverage ratio, zoning, passed years, basement floor, hight of land, shape of land were important factors to single family houses price. The scale of effect of land coverage ratio to single family houses price was different to price levels of single family houses. And basement floor affected more negative effects to middle price, location and zoning had positive effects to high price single family houses. The degree of influence of determinants of single family houses price was deferent by region, KangBuk and KangNam. In KangNam, land coverage ratio and accessibilities were more important in low price single family houses, green zone and more far way is affected positive effects on single family houses price. In Kangbuk, land coverage ratio affects similar effects on single family houses price.

  • As bus is realized by economical, environmental transportation that is available mass transport than car, various policy for improvement of services is achieved. As innovative public transportation systems like BMS (Bus Management System) have established, it is possible to manage bus service efficiently. However, the present bus service management system mainly focuses on enhancing service reliability represented by schedule adherence index. This study discusses the necessity of a special management for bus bunching phenomena at stops, and develops two kinds of bus bunching indices based on the Number of Berth and the Average Bus Arrival Rate. The bus bunching indices were measured by utilizing the bus operational information from BMS at the Seoul TOPIS(Transportation & Information Service). In order to evaluate the sensitivity of the Indices, the indices were applied to two different bus groups: buses on exclusive bus median lane, and regular (shared) lanes. As analysis result, is bunching as is near in downtown and is bunching to peak time morning than the afternoon. Compared with the schedule adherence index, the suggested indices were proved as an efficient complementary indices in the evaluation of the bus operational performance. The results of index comparison between exclusive bus median lane and shared lanes can promote the expansion of exclusive bus median lane. Moreover, it can also be used as a reference in deciding bus station scale including the Number of Berth and the route adjustment plan.

  • The use of bus stop in the center lane has reduced the emissions of exhaust gas on the road due to the improvement of the traffic speed but has caused a health problem for the citizens who are waiting for the bus in the platform, and thus the air pollution control of bus stop in the center lane is emerging as a more important part. This study was conducted to investigate the air pollution degree for the center lane-bus stops in four regions using mobile air measuring vehicle, and to evaluate the characteristics of air pollution by comparing with the data measured at the urban air monitoring site close to the bus stops. In addition, the correlation analysis was performed to analyze the impact to neighboring region by vehicle exhaust gas. The regional mean concentration of nitrogen dioxide in the center lane-bus stops ranged from 0.025 to 0.043 ppm which shows from 2.5 times to 5.3 times higher than the values of urban air monitoring site selected as a control group. The regional mean concentration of ozone in the center lane-bus stops ranged from 0.023 to 0.034 ppm which shows from 3% to 28% lower than the values of urban air monitoring site selected as a control group. The concentrations of nitrogen dioxide and ozone for the sampling regions did not exceed one hour-air quality environmental standard (0.1 ppm). The mean concentration of particulate matter for four center lane-bus stops was $28{\mu}g/m^3$ which shows about 27% higher than the values of urban air monitoring site selected as a control group, and that of particulate matter did not exceed one day-air quality environmental standard ($100{\mu}g/m^3$). In the results of correlation analysis between data from center lane-bus stops and data from urban air monitoring sites, the correlation coefficient (r) of nitrogen dioxide was relatively low as 0.316 to 0.416, and the correlation coefficient was high as the distance was close and vice versa. However, the correlation coefficient of ozone ranged from 0.167 to 0.658 and the correlation coefficient was high as the distance was far and vice versa.

  • In this study, we investigate to show the limitations of current bus arrival time estimation model based on each bus route, and to propose a bus arrival time estimation model based on a bus stop to overcome these limitations. Using the characteristic of bus arrival time calculated on travel time between two bus stops, we develop a model to estimate bus arrival times with the data of all buses traveling the same section regardless of bus route numbers. In the proposed model, an estimated arrival time is calculated by weighted moving average method, and verification between observed value and estimated time is performed on the basis of RMSE. Error was reduced by up to 20% compared to the existing models and the data update period was reduced by more than half that is related to the accuracy of bus arrival time information. We expect to solve the following problems with the suggested method: sudden increase or decrease in arrival time of the bus, the difference of the expected arrival times at the same stop between two or more buses having different route numbers, and impossibility of offering information of a bus if the bus is not operated with the designated schedule.
