A Comparison of Surgical Methods of Inducing Femoral Head Osteonecrosis in Rats (랫드에서 대퇴골머리 골괴사 유발 외과적 방법의 비교)

  • Osteonecrosis of the femoral head is an idiopathic and progressive disease. It was reported that several animal models have been used for the research of osteonecrosis. However, no standardized animal model for the study of osteonecrosis has been developed to date. This study was conducted to compare the degree of osteonecrosis of three surgically induced osteonecrosis models in rats. Twenty Sprague-Dawley rats (24 weeks old, male) were divided into three experimental groups and a control group, five heads each. Three groups were surgically induced into osteonecrosis; the ligamentum teres were cut and the periosteum of the femoral neck was stripped (Group S), the steel wire was ligated to the neck of the femoral head (Group W), and the femoral neck was tied up with a wire in the same way as in the W group, and burned by attaching the electrode tip to the wire and then the wire was removed (Group B). After two weeks, rats were sacrificed and the femoral head and neck were collected. Histological findings were evaluated with H/E stains, Safranin-O and TUNEL for osteonecrotic lesions in the bones and cartilages of the femoral head. Osteonecrosis was induced successfully in all groups (Group S, W and B) in two weeks, a short period of time. Significant necrotic changes of the cartilage were detected only in Group B. In the modified cautery model in particular, the method of removing the wire after cautery was completed in the experimental model of osteonecrosis more efficiently than any other method.

Analysis of Relationship Between Injection Dose and Exposure Dose in PET/CT Scan: Initial Study (PET/CT에서 방사성 의약품 주입량이 방사선 피폭에 미치는 영향분석: 초기연구)

  • The $^{18}F$-FDG is one of the widely used isotopes for PET/CT scans. Dose amount injected to the patient depends on the characteristics of PET/CT systems. Obviously, the technologists who contact with patients would be exposed as well. In this study, we evaluated the exposed dose of the technologist who works on the PET/CT scanner. The exposed dose were measured every month with the TLDs from 6 technologists. Each technologist is shift-worker who manages 3 different PET/CT systems(Scanner 1(S1): 0.15 mCi/kg, Scanner 2(S2): 0.17 mCi/kg, Scanner 3(S3): 0.12 mCi/kg). The average exposed doses of technologists for each PET/CT system were measured as 0.76 mSv for S1, 0.93 mSv for S2 and 0.47 mSv for S3. The maximum dose was 1.12 mSv and minimum was 0.42 mSv. The results showed that there was a correlation between exposed dose and PET/CT system(p<0.005). Less injected dose for patient occurs less exposed dose for technologist. Various studies for the low dose PET/CT system are required for not only the patient but also the technologist.

Contents Analysis on the Health Information of Major Daily Newspaper and TV in Korea (우리나라 주요(主要) 일간지(日刊紙) 및 TV 건강정보(健康情報)의 내용분석(內容分析))

  • 주요 일간지와 KBS 1 9시 뉴스에서 다루고 있는 건강관련 기사의 내용을 분석하여, 건강관련 정보의 경향을 파악하여, 건강 예보제 실시를 위한 현황 분석을 위해 본 연구를 실시하였다. 1. 일간지 건강정보 내용분석 결과요약: 기사 보도 분야에서는 생활건강(47.8%), 사회(14.6%), 종합(7.7%), 국제(4.7%), 경제(1.5%) 순이었고, 3/4분기에서만 국제와 경제 분야가 종합분야 보다 많이 보도 되었으며, 기타 분야가 22.9%로 많은 비율을 차지하였다. 건강정보를 대상 성별별로 분류 하였을 시 남녀 모두에 해당되는 자료가 대다수였고(87.9%), 여성이 대상인 정보(8.0%)가 남성(4.1%)보다 많았으며, 생애 주기별 대상으로 분류 하였을 시에 역시 특별히 구분되지 않은 모든 연령층에 해당 정보가 가장 많았고(60.8%), 성인(19.8%), 학동기 어린이(7.3%), 청소년 (4.9%), 노인(4.9%), 영유아(3.3%) 순이었다. 일간지별 기사의 주제를 조사한 결과 두 일간지의 총합은 병의 원인 및 위험인자(15.5%)가 가장 많이 보도 되었는데, 조선일보는 건강증진, 치료 및 술기, 투약, 기타의 순이었고, 한겨레신문은 건강증진, 행정, 치료 및 술기, 투약 순이었으며 각 주제별로 분기별로 약간의 차이를 나타내었다. 예측성에 관한 내용분석을 보면 예보성은 있는 경우(76.2%)가 없는 경우보다 많았고, 예보성의 정보는 알림성, 예측성, 행사성의 순이었고 예측성의 경우 건강형태가 가장 많았으나 한겨레 신문의 경우 기타에 속하는 경우가 가장 많았다. 사 ICD-10 체계, 21대 분류로 질병에 관한 기사를 분류한 결과 신생물(14.5%), 특정 감염성 및 기생충성 질환(13.6%), 정신 및 행동장애(9.5%)의 순이었으며 두 일간지간의 차이를 보였다. 2. TV 뉴스 건강정보 내용분석 결과요약: 건강정보의 대상 특징 성별은 모두 해당되는 경우가 265회 중 238회 (89.8%)로 가장 많았고, 생애주기별 대상으로 보면 모든 연령층에 해당 되는 것이 154회(58.1%)로 가장 많았다. 건강정보의 주제에 대해서 조사한 결과 병의 원인 및 위험인자가 73회(27.5%), 역학(역학조사 및 보도성)이 64회 (24.2%), 행정이 30회(11.3%), 증상 및 호소가 27회(10.2%) 등의 빈도순으로 조사 되었다. 건강정보의 내용의 분야를 보면 대분류로는 질병관리 분야가 102회(38.5%), 보건의료제도 및 행정 분야가 52회(19.6%), 보건행태 및 기타 42회(15.8%), 생활환경분야 39회(14.7%)의 빈도순으로 나타났다. 건강정보 내용을 질병의 분류 ICD-10 체계로 분석한 결과는 특정감염성 및 기생충성 질환 48회(26.8%), 소화기계의 질환, 손산, 중독 및 외인에 의한 특정기타 결과, 건강상태 및 보건서비스 접촉에 주는 요인 등의 빈도순으로 조사되었다.

  • The study area, Bonggil-ri, Gyeongju, SE Korea, is composed of Cretaceous sedimentary rocks, and Tertiary igneous rocks and dykes. A research on fracture developing history and density distribution was carried out on well exposed Tertiary granites. The fractures developed in this area have the following sequence; NW-SE trending duo-tile shear bands (set a), NNW-SSE trending extensional fractures (set d), WNW-ESE trending extensional or normal fractures (set b), NE-SW trending right-lateral fractures (set c), WNW-ESE trending reverse fault reactivated from normal faults (set e) and NW-SE trending left-lateral faults reactivated from shear bands (set a) under brittle condition. According to the result of fracture density analysis, the fracture density in this area depends on rock property rather than rock age, and also higher fracture density is observed around fault damage zones. However, this high fracture density may also be related to the cooling process associated with dyke intrusion as well as rock types and fault movement. Regardless of the reason of the high fracture density, high fracture density itself contributes to fluid flow and migration of chemical elements.

  • This paper describes the design and development of VSI (VLBI standard interface) optical adapter for transmitting VLBI(Very long baseline interferometry) observation data with optical signal. VSI cable comprised of 80-line is being used for observed data transmission with maximum length of 5-meter between playbacks (Mark5B, VERA2000) and raw VLBI data buffer (RVDB), RVDB and VLBI correlation subsystem (VCS) in Daejeon correlator. It has a plan to conduct the data processing for 16-stations and introduce the 14 RVDB systems in near future. And data loss frequently occurred because of trouble of VSI cable MDR80 connector. By considering the data loss by connector error of VSI cable, RVDB system extension plan, effective space usage and long distance data transmission(e-VLBI), the VSI optical adapter was proposed and developed for effectively transmitting and receiving VLBI data through optical signal. In order to confirming the performance of developed VSI optical adapter, the experiments for data transmission was conducted between playback and RVDB system, and confirmed that data transmission was clearly done without any data loss.

  • Capacitively-coupled resistivity (CCR) system is known to be very useful where galvanic contact to earth is impossible, such as the area covered with thick ice, snow, concrete or asphalt. This system injects current non-galvanically, i.e., capacitively to earth through line antenna and measures potential difference in a same manner. We derived geometric factor for two types of antenna configuration and presented the method of processing and converting the data obtained with CCR system suitable to conventional resistivity inversion analysis. The CCR system, however, has limitations on use at conductive area or electrically noisy area since it is very difficult to inject sufficient current to earth with this system as with conventional resistivity system. This causes low SM ratio when acquiring data with CCR system and great care must be taken in acquiring data with this system. Additionally the uniform contact between line antennas and earth is also crucial factor to obtain good S/N ratio data. The CCR method, however, enables one to perform continuous profiling over a survey line by dragging entire system and thus will be useful in rapid investigation of conductivity distribution in shallow subsurface.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of ozone gas on paddy rice at the different nutrition levels. Jinjubyeo variety of rice plant was exposed to 0.3 ppm ozone gas for 3 hours. It was cultivated at three different application levels, optimum, -50%, and +50% of optimum of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, respectively. After ozone gas fumigation, percentage of damaged leaf, malondialdehyde contents, activity of peroxidase, and nutrient contents of rice plant were observed. The results obtained are as follows. 1) Percentage of damaged leaf was increased at the both additional 50% application of nitrogen and 50% reduction of potassium. 2) Malondialdehyde contents of leaves were increased with the ozone gas exposure. 3) Percentage of damaged leaf was increased at the lower level of $K_2O/N$ ratio in leaves. 4) Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium contents in rice leaves were decreased with the ozone gas exposure. 5) The peroxidase bands on gel in electrophoresis were changed by the ozone gas exposure.

Comparing Malaysian Youths and Adults'toward Hallyu Consciousness (말레이시아 청소년과 성인들의 한류 의식 비교)

  • Hallyu in Malaysia is considered to be in the growth stage as in countries such as Philippine, Myanmar, Hungary, and Uzbekistan. In the growth stage, Hallyu becomes increasingly popular and familiar to the general public and the sales of Hallyu-related products starts to increase. The purpose of this research is to compare how Hallyu is perceived among Malaysian youths and adults. Analysis is carried out using FGD. The two groups are asked about what they think of Korea and the success of Hallyu, how much interest they have in foreign cultures in general, and how they come into contact with them. Based on these results, problems currently facing Hallyu and possible solutions are examined. The analysis shows that the interest in Hallyu among Malaysians varies according to age and gender. Both male and female participants in their 20's have shown a much greater interest in Hallyu than the participants over 30's. But Malaysians are known to be relatively open-minded about accepting foreign cultures, and this is reflected in the current study. They view the popularity of Korean drama, movies, and music as a trend, rather than being intolerant of them. There is no concern for negativity toward Hallyu in Malaysia, but it is likely that Hallyu may be replaced by another foreign culture unless its influence is constantly maintained in the area. Therefore, it is essential to develop measures and models to not only retain, but strengthen Hallyu's influence.

Removal of Ionic and Non-ionic Pharmaceuticals Using Granular Activated Carbon (입상활성탄을 이용한 이온성 및 비이온성 의약품의 제거)

  • Adsorbability of ionic and nonionic pharmaceuticals was studied using granular activated carbon(GAC). In a batch adsorption test of muticomponent solution, 500 mg/L of GAC dose removed all target compounds between 94 and 98% at initial concentration of 10 ${\mu}g/L$. Adsorption of ionic pharmaceuticals increased as pH was lowered toward to pKa, however adsorption capacity of nonionic pharmaceuticals showed insignificant variation with the changing pH. The enhanced adsorption capacity of ionic pharmaceuticals at lower pH was attributed to the corresponding increase in the molecular form of ionic pharmaceuticals with carboxylic group at low pH. In addition, decrease of pH increased hydrogen ion concentration in the bulk solution and the protons bound to the available sites on the carbon enhanced the removal of the ionic pharmaceuticals from solution. After 40 days of continuous operation, GAC column showed the removal of target compounds were removed by $93{\sim}99%$ at 15 min of EBCT mainly due to adsorption mechanism of GAC. At shorter EBCT than 15 min, breakthrough of CA, IBP and GFZ occurred earlier than the other ionic and nonionic pharmaceuticals. effect of EBCT on adsorption of nonionic pharmaceuticals was greater than ionic ones. This study showed that persitent pharmaceuticals found in drinking water treatment could be effectively controlled by adsorption in GAC process.
