Viscoelastic Stress Analysis of Polymeric Thin Layer Under Moisture Absorption (수분 흡수로 인해 고분자 박막에서 발생하는 점탄성 응력 해석)

  • This paper deals with the stress singularity induced at the interface corner between the elastic substrate and the viscoelastic thin film as the polymeric film absorbs moisture from the ambient environment. The boundary element method is employed to investigate the behavior of interface stresses. The order of the singularity is obtained numerically for a given viscoelastic model. It is shown that the stress singularity factor is relaxed with time, while the order of the singularity increases with time for the viscoelastic model considered.

  • The carbon fiber reinforced plastic manufacturing process has a problem in that a dimensional error occurs due to thermal deformation such as residual stress, spring-in, and warpage. The main causes of thermal deformation are various, including the shape of the product, the chemical shrinkage, thermal expansion of the resin, and the mold effect according to the material and surface condition of the mold. In this study, a viscoelastic model was applied to the plate model to predict the thermal deformation. The effects of chemical shrinkage and thermal expansion of the resin, which are the main causes of thermal deformation, were analyzed, and the analysis technique of the 3-D viscoelastic model with and without mold was also studied. Then, the L-shaped mold effect was analyzed using the verified 3D viscoelastic model analysis technique. The results show that different residual deformation occurs depending on the surface condition even when the same mold is used.

A Study on the Viscoelastic Model of Asphalt Concrete Pavement (아스팔트 포장의 점탄성 거동 모델에 관한 연구)

  • Existing basic mechanical models which are methods characterizing viscoelastic materials were first reviewed to account for viscoelastic behavior of the asphalt pavement structure in this paper. A viscoelastic mechanical model considering a single load of vehicles subsequently was suggested and an equation that indicates the time-dependant behavior of asphalt pavements was derived from the proposed model. Non-destructive tests using falling weight deflectometer(FWD) were performed for a test section to estimate the application of the model. Both deflections and strains procured by the equation were compared to testing results according to loading history. By observing field measurements and theoretical evaluations, if two results are compared by the features of deflection according to time history, it could be concluded that the proposed model is expected to be suitable for prediction of the behavior of asphalt pavements because there is hardly difference between field data and calculated data.

  • A mathematical model of viscoelasticity on the material property of human pharyngeal tissue utilizing Y.C. Fung's Quasi-linear viscoelastic theory is proposed based on cyclic load, stress relaxation, incremental load, and uniaxial tensile load tests. The material properties are characterized and compared with other biological materials' results. The mathematical model is proposed by combining two characteristic functions determined from the stress relaxation and uniaxial tensile load tests. The reduced stress relaxation function G(t) and elastic response function S(t) are obtained from stress relaxation test and uniaxial tensile load test results respectively. Then the model describing stress-time history of the tissue is implemented utilizing two functions. The proposed model is evaluated and validated by comparing the model's cyclic behaviour with experimental results. The model data could be utilized as an important information for constructing 3-dimensional biomechanical model of human pharynx using FEM(Finite Element Method).

  • Rubber compounds have a high viscoelastic property. One of the viscoelastic behaviors during profile extrusion is the swelling of extrudate, and the amount of swelling varies with operational conditions in extrusion. It is well recognized that the elastic portion in the viscoelastic property plays an important role in the extrudate swell. In this study computer simulation of the die swell at the capillary die for several rubber compounds has been performed using commercial CFD code, Polyflow. A non-linear differential viscoelastic model, Phan-Thien-Tanner (PTT) model, was used in the computer simulation. Non-isothermal behavior was considered in the calculation. Distribution of pressure, velocity and temperature in the reservoir and capillary die, and extrudate profiles were predicted through the simulation. The amount of the die swell fur the different rubber compounds was investigated for various flow rates and three types of length to diameter of the capillary die. It is concluded that the PTT model successfully represented viscoelastic behavior of rubber compounds.

Constitutive Modeling of Asphalt Concrete with Time-Dependent Damage Growth (손상이 증가하는 아스팔트 콘크리트의 점탄성 구성모델)

  • Mechanical behavior of asphalt concrete that accounts for viscoelasticity and damage evolution under cyclic loading conditions is modeled and presented in this paper. An elastic-viscoelastic correspondence principle in terms of pseudo variables is applied to separately evaluate viscoelasticity and time-dependent damage growth in asphalt concrete. A microcrack growth law, which is commonly employed in linear viscoelastic fracture mechanics, is successfully used for describing the damage growth in the body. A constitutive equation in terms of stress and pseudo strain is first established for controlled-strain mode, and then transformed to controlled-stress constitutive equation by simply replacing stress and pseudo strain with pseudo stress and strain. The transformed constitutive equation in terms of pseudo stress satisfactorily predicts the mechanical behavior of asphalt concrete all the way up to failure under controlled-stress modes.

Micromechanics-based Analysis on Tensile Behavior of the Sprayed FRP Composites with Chopped Glass Fibers (유리단섬유로 보강된 분사식 섬유보강 복합재료의 인장거동에 관한 미세역학 기반 해석)

  • In this paper, experimental tests and theoretical studies were carried out to evaluate the tensile behavior of the sprayed FRP composite with chopped glass fiber. For this, a series of tensile strength tests with various strain rates were conducted on the specimens of the matrix and sprayed FRP composite. Sprayed FRP composite contained chopped glass fibers with fiber length of 15mm and a specific volume fraction of fibers of 25 %. An inverse simulation was conducted to simulate the strain rate sensitivity based on the present experimental data of the epoxy resin. The simulated viscosity value is adapted to the micromechanics-based viscoelastic damage model(Yang et al., 2012), and the overall tensile behavior of sprayed FRP composites is predicted. It was seen from the comparative study between present experimental data and predication results that the proposed methodology can be used to predict the viscoelastic behavior of the sprayed FRP composite.

Development of Warpage Simulation Method according to Thermal Stress based on Equivalent Anisotropic Viscoelastic Model (등가 이방성 점탄성 모델 기반 열 응력에 따른 휨 해석 기법 개발)

  • In this study, simulation method was developed to improve the accuracy of the warpage simulation based on the equivalent anisotropic viscoelastic model. First, a package with copper traces and bumps was modeled to implement anisotropic viscoelastic behavior. Then, equivalent anisotropic viscoelastic properties and thermal expansion coefficient for the bump region were derived through the representative volume element model. A thermal cycle of 0 to 125 degrees was applied to the package based on the derived mechanical properties, and the warpage according to the thermal cycle was simulated. To verify the simulation results, the actual package was manufactured, and the warpage with respect to the thermal cycle was measured through shadow moiré interferometer. As a result, by applying the equivalent anisotropic viscoelastic model, it was possible to calculate the warpage of the package within 5 ㎛ error and predict the shape of the warpage.

  • 본 연구에서는 다트식 낙하충격 시험에 있어서 인성의 강소성 플라스틱 재료 의 준정적 선형의 점탄성 모델이 구성되어 해석되었다. 완화계수함수, E(t)=E$_{f}$ +(E$_{o}$ -E$_{f}$ )e$^{-t/tR}$ 형태의 점탄성 재료의 수정된 Maxwell요소모델을 근거 로 충격속도, 파괴에너지, 임계응력등의 중요변수들의 상대적 종속성이 근사계산으로 평가되었다.

Nonliear vibration analysis of polyurethane foam (폴리우레탄 폼의 비선형 진동특성 해석)

  • A dynamic modeling and prediction of polyurethane foam material, which is used as the seat in vehicles is very important for improving the ride quality of vehicle occupants. In this study, parameters to define the nonlinear stiffness and time-variant characteristics of the viscoelasticity of polyurethane foam were obtained using a static compression test. Polynomial functions and convolution integral were used to model the nonlinear and viscoelastic characteristics of polyurethane foam mathematically. The dynamic behaviors excited by the seat floor displacement were analyzed using a numerical integration method for the nonlinear vibration model. As a result, the viscoelastic characteristics of polyurethane foam was found to be an important parameter for improving the ride quality.
