  • With a rapid progress in electronic industry we enjoy various conveniences of life. As many kinds of information equipments are supplied even to most of individuals as to be called an information society, we are exchanging much information with one another surprisingly. Consequently the occupation density of microwave frequency band is highly increased, and electromagnetic environment is getting more seriously bad. It often gives fatal blow to even human life and thus becomes serious social problems. Electromagnetic wave absorbers for anechoic chamber are needed to broaden the effective frequency bandwidth, reduce the thickness, and decrease the weight. There are various absorbers proposed for the above conditions, but they could not decisively solve it the alone requirements. The Electromagnetic wave absorber made by a conventional ferrite tile has, for example, broadened the useful frequency bandwidth by the way of forming air layer(practically use urethane foam, etc.) on the ferrite tile. Therefore, an air layer is formed between a reflection plate and a sintered Ni-Zn ferrite tile of 7 mm in thickness, which has reflectivity less than -20 dB from 30 MHz to 400 MHz in bandwidth. Accordingly, in this paper, a broadened electromagnetic wave absorber are designed, which has the reflection characteristics less than -20 dB from 30 MHz to 6,000 MHz in the bandwidth. Then we achieved the goal by design the inserting square Ferrite Cylinders with the thickness less than 17.5 mm on existing grid type Ferrite absorber. The purpose of this research is on the development of very wide-band electromagnetic absorber for a universal anechoic chamber for measuring radiated electromagnetic wave or immunity of electronic equipments, GTEM-cell, wall material for preventing TV ghost, etc.

  • Korea is the 5th Maritime Power in the world, especially, Busan Metropolitan City is the 3rd Marine City, which has the largest Container port facility and logistic system in the world. However, Busan Citizen's maritime consciousness does not reach that level. This study points out the problems, which are insufficiency of linkage among maritime education institutes, uniformity of ocean education programs, incomplete ocean education system, inadequate management of ocean education programs and shortage of professional instructors. To solve these problems, it is necessary to develop the ocean education modules, establish the ocean education course and put into formal education course to maximize the education effectiveness. This is for the improvement of the reputation as a Marine City Busan, construction the hydrophil culture and propagation of ocean culture.

  • A significant factor limiting the ranging accuracy of Loran (Long Range Navigation) signal is the additional secondary factor (ASF) in the time of arrival (TOA) measurements. Precise ASF values are essential if Loran deliver the high absolute accuracies demanded for aircraft approach, maritime harbour entrance. We measured the absolute propagation delay between Pohang Loran signal and Loran receiver output signal by comparing with Cesium atomic clock. In this study we measured ASFs between Pohang 9930M station and the 12 measurement points in the Yeongil Bay by using the measurement technique of absolute time delay. The measurement points were spaced at interval of 3 km by 3 km. An E-field antenna and an H-field antenna were used to improve the accuracy of ASF measurements and a DGPS (Differential GPS) receiver was used for accurate positions. We have gotten the result that the measured ASFs were compared with the predicted ASFs through this measurement technique.

  • This paper presents a design of RFID(Radio Frequency Identification} tag antenna which has high sensitivity for car side mirror. A proposed tag antenna ($154\;mm{\times}66\;mm{\times}1;mm$) resonants at 900 MHz and has a wide bandwidth of 690 MHz($490\;MHz{\sim}1180\;MHz$). The measured gain and readable range of tag antenna are 5.8 dBd and 10 m, respectively. Radiation pattern and readable range of proposed tag antenna located on inside of a side mirror including a car body are measured at anechoic chamber. It has been confirmed that the readable range in the vicinity of $90^{\circ}$ has been expanded about 1.5 m by comparison with one of proposed tag antenna without of car body. Good performance of the proposed tag antenna was observed and proved by comparison of measured results of commercial tag antenna.

  • Recently, various novel numerical models based on Navier-Stokes equation have been developed for calculating wave motions in the sea with coastal or ocean structures. Among those models, Volume Of Fluid (VOF) method might be the most popular one, and it has been used for numerical simulations of wave motions including complicated phenomena of wave breakings. VOF method, however, needs enormous computation time and large computational storage memories in general, thus it is practically difficult to use this method for calculations in the case of random waves because long and stable computation (e.g for more than 100 significant wave periods) is required to obtain statistically meaningful results. On the other hand if the wave motion is potential motion, Boundary Element Method (BEM), which is a much faster and more accurate method than VOF method, can be effectively used. The aim of this study is to develop a new efficient model applicable to calculations of wave motion and/or wave-structure interactions under random waves. To achieve this, a strictly combined BEM-VOF model has been developed by making the best use of both methods' merits; VOF method is used in a restricted fluid domain around a structure where complicated phenomena of wave breakings may exist, and BEM is used in the other domains far from the disturbance where the wave motion may be assumed to be potential. The verification of the model was performed with numerical results for Stokes' 5th order wave propagation and a random wave propagation.

  • In order to establish eLoran system it needs the betterment of a receiver and a transmitter, the add of data channel to loran pulse for loran system information and the differential Loran for compensating Loran-c signal. Precise ASF database map is essential if the Loran delivers the high absolute accuracy of navigation demanded at maritime harbor entrance. In this study we developed the ASF mapping method using predicted ASFs compensated by the measured ASFs for maritime in the harbor. Actual ASF is measured by the legacy Loran signal transmitted from Pohang station in the GRI 9930 chain. We measured absolute propagation delay between the Pohang transmitting station and the measurement points by comparing with the cesium clock for the calculation of the ASFs. Monteath model was used for the irregular terrain along the propagation path in the Yeongil Bay. We measured the actual ASFs at the 12 measurement points over the Yeongil Bay. In our ASF-mapping method we estimated that the each offsets between the predicted and the measured ASFs at the 12 spaced points in the Yeongil. We obtained the ASF map by adjusting the predicted ASF results to fit the measured ASFs over Yeungil bay.

  • Although the needs for providing resilient PNT information are increasing, threats due to the intentional RFI or space weather change are challenging to resolve. eLoran, which is a terrestrial navigation system that use a high-power signal is considered as a best back-up navigation system. Depending on the user's environment in the eLoran system, the user may use one of E-field or H-field antennas. H-field antenna, which has no restriction on setting stable ground and is relatively resistant to noise of general electronic equipment, is composed of two loops, and shows anisotropic gain pattern due to the different measurement at the two loops. Therefore, the H-field antenna's phase estimation value of signal varies depending on its direction even at the static environment. The error due to the direction of the signal should be eliminated if the user want to estimate the own position more precisely. In this paper, a method to compensate the error according to the geometric distribution between the H-field antenna and the transmitting station is proposed. A model was developed to compensate the directional error of H-field antenna based on the signal generated from the eLoran signal simulator. The model is then used to the survey measurement performed in the land area and verify its performance.

  • As the development of renewable energy expands internationally to cope with global warming and climate change, the share of wind power generation has been gradually increasing. Although wind farms can produce electric power for 24 h a day compared to solar power plants, Their interfere with the operation of nearby radars or communication equipment must be analyzed because large-scale wind power turbines are installed. This study analyzed whether a land radio station can receive sufficient signals when a ship sailing outside the offshore wind farm transmits distress signals on the VHF band. Based on the geographic information system digital map around the target area, wind turbine CAD model, and wind farm layout, the area of interest and wind farm were modeled to enable numerical analysis. Among the high frequency analysis techniques suitable for radio wave analysis in a wide area, a dedicated program applying physical optics (PO) and shooting and bouncing ray (SBR) techniques were used. Consequently, the land radio station could receive the electromagnetic field above the threshold of the VHF receiver when a ship outside the offshore wind farm transmitted a distress communication signal. When the line of sight between the ships and the land station are completely blocked, the strength of the received field decreases, but it is still above the threshold. Hence, although a wind farm is a huge complex, a land station can receive the electromagnetic field from the ship's VHF transmitter because the wave length of the VHF band is sufficiently long to have effects such as diffraction or reflection.

  • There are three essential components of eLoran: dLoran, data map of ASF, and the Loran data channel. Particularly, dLoran improves navigation accuracy, which is the core technology of eLoran systems. The requirement of HEA's absolute accuracy, less than 20 meters, can be satisfied via dLoran measurements and their corrections. In this study, dLoran measurements using the Pohang Loran-C (9930M) station signal were conducted at Yeongil Bay. We established a dLoran reference station at Homigot Management Office for navigation aids within the Bay. We estimated the effectiveness of the dLoran between the reference site (Homigot Management Office) and a test site (Heunghwan beach) by measuring TOAs. We verified that the TOA data measured at these two regions were highly correlated. The temporal differences in the data between the dLoran reference station and test site were about 10~30 ns per day, which is equivalent to a ranging error of 3~9 m. This result shows that eLoran can meet the requirement of 8~20 meters position accuracy for maritime HEA by correcting the ASF at the user's receiver.
