  • The purpose of the research undertaken for this paper was to demonstrate the effects of WBI on students' achievement and their reactions. WBI was adapted for use on the lesson Theme of Poems in Korean textbook for Middle School second graders. Hypothesis 1 was that there would be meaningful differences in students' achievement between the experimental group using WBI and the controlled group in a traditional instructive class. And the statistical calculations showed that the experimental group produced larger numbers in terms of both the average and standard deviation. Hypothesis 2 was that there would be the more highly rated outcomes from the experimental group applying WBI for students' interest, understanding, and concentration. The responses to a Questionnaire concerning stated items showed significant differences in favor of WBI class. Based on these analyses, this thesis represents an effort to potential application of WEI to learning of Poems, in light of research evidence that reveals its respective effect to further students' achievement and interest.

  • The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of microcomputer-based laboratory (MBL) with the traditional laboratory experiment on science classes in middle school. MBL tools were developed and applied for five experiment subjects chosen from middle school science textbook for MBL experiment classes, while usual experiment methods suggested in the textbook were used in traditional experiment classes. In order to evaluate the effects of MBL experiment class, achievement, graphic ability, science process skills, affective aspect related to science were tested before and after applying the MBL experiment. The result revealed that MBL experiment class was more effective than traditional experiment class in improving student's science achievement, science process skills, and graphic ability. The result also indicated that there was a significant difference between experiment and control group with regards to the effect on affective aspect related to science. From the above result, we can find the positive implication of applicability of MBL experiment as a new experiment tool at the early stage of introduction in a real context.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of individualized instruction on students' achievement, course interest, attitude in Homepage Development lesson. A total of 204 eighth-graders in a girls' middle school participated in the study. The results showed that the individualized group made significantly greater achievement and revealed higher course interest than the traditional group. Subjects in the individualized group also had more positive attitudes toward the instructional program than did the traditional group. Prior computer experience didn't have significant interaction effects between the teaching methods.

  • In this study, we develop the mathematical modeling teaching materials focused function units of mathematics textbooks and establish the appropriate teaching and learning model. Using mathematical modeling materials and developed instructional materials for teaching high school students is aimed to improve the academic achievement, mathematical attitude and fear. The problem of this study is as follows : First, between the groups using mathematical modeling and a traditional textbook teaching academic achievement groups showed that there is a difference? Second, between the groups using mathematical modeling and a traditional textbook teaching mathematics between groups showed that there is a difference of mathematical attitude and fear? Third, what are the lessons for the students' responses using mathematical modeling?

  • Cell division in biological education is an important and unintelligible unit. Most of students have no interest in learning the content, and don't concentrate on it because cell division unit contains relatively difficult content. In this vein, during considering the effective learning methods, the researcher found role-play as the method for student's positive access to important and unintelligent learning content. Effect of role-play on their learning achievement of science was analysed through the Chapter of cell division on 3rd grade of middle school students. For this study three levels of middle school students were selected from the school located in Seoul. And divided this students into experiment group and control group by 2 classes respectively. Before putting into practice this instruction, there took into account the before and after of students' learning achievement and their learning attitude by using same questionnaire. On the other hand, the researcher put into practice co-variate analysis by using SPSS statistical package as the measurement method.

  • In this study, a new teaching model was developed using concept maps and applied to the Earth Science I unit on diastrophism. We analyzed the effects of this model on students' scholastic achievement, ability to construct concept maps, and attitudes towards concept map lessons, in comparison to traditional teaching methods. The data was sampled from 128 second-year male high school students in Gyunggido, Korea. Although the results are not statistically significant, the new teaching model seems to have contributed to an increase in scholastic achievement as opposed to the traditional teaching models. We also found that the students to whom the new teaching model was applied showed both significant and positive effects in terms of scholastic achievement, the ability to construct a concept map, and changes in attitudes towards concept map lessons.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify how native speakers' video-conference teaching influences self-efficacy according to the cognitive styles of elementary school students compared with native speakers' traditional co-teaching. The results of this study are as follows. First, there was the difference in the effect on self-efficacy according to the difference in three teaching methods. Second, there was not the difference in self-efficacy according to cognitive styles. Third, there appeared the interaction effect of teaching methods and cognitive styles on self-efficacy.

  • The concept of evolution is one of the most important concepts in the learning biology. However lots of students have difficulties in understanding its mechanism because their preexisted alternative concepts interrupt in gaining the correct idea of evolution. Students usually have the Larmarkian or teleological ideas of evolution. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of an activity-centered instruction on the learner's conceptual change from misconception into the scientific concept, Darwinian one, and achievement. For the study, 162 students were sampled from a high school: 81 students for the activity-centered instruction and 81 students for traditional instruction. The result is as follows; 1) The activity-centered instruction is more effective than the traditional one in understanding the concept of Darwinian natural selection(p<.05) and in changing the students' various misconceptions of evolution into Darwinian one. 2) The activity-centered instruction concerning natural selection is more effective in their achievement(p<.01). 3) However, after both of the instructions, some students still kept the Lamarkian thoughts.

  • This study investigated the effects and development of instruction module using ICT on earth field at elementary school science. The effects by 5th graders appeared as follows; First. ICT-applied teaching method proved to enhance the science teaming achievement regardless of their grades compared to the ordinary one. Second, Instruction module using ICT devoted to improve 'self-directed learning characteristics' at all grades by comparition of the ordinary teaching method. The 5th graders showed the improvements in the fields of' openness', 'self-conception', 'initiative', 'future inclination', 'creativity', 'self-assessment ability' all of which belong to self-directed teaming characteristics. They did not, however, show meaningful effect on improving 'learning eagerness' and 'responsibility' improvement. Thirdly, ICT-applied teaching method proved that it is more effective for developing 'creativity' than the ordinary one at all sample grades. The effectiveness was presented highly at 'fluency', 'originality' all of which belong to creativity. They did not, however, show meaningful effect on improving 'flexibility'.

  • A developed Web-aided laboratory program visualized invisible gas. In the Web-aided laboratory temperature and pressure were controlled and the resultant findings were presented as types of graphs, disclosed in the form of an analyzed report. A Web-aided laboratory experiment and traditional experiment group(2 classes) were assembled from a farming village co-educational high school and taught the motion of molecule lesson for 2 class hours. Before actual class instruction, to survey learner motivation characteristics, the short-version GALT, the test of attitudes toward science instruction, was administered. After instruction, student learning achievement, TOSRA, and IMMS, were administered to the two groups. To analyze data ANCOVA was administrated. Result found that attitudes towards science instruction did not significantly differ, but learning motivation and achievement were significantly altered.
