An Analysis of the Quadrangle Type of Raymond Unwin (레이몬드 언윈의 쿼드앵글 유형 해석)

  • This paper has attempted to analyze the site planning theories of Raymond Unwin (1863-1940), who is called the father of British town planning. A prominent contribution of his was to establish both the site planning of garden suburb and urban housing style in British type. Here it attempts to analyze how he greatly and firmly established the concept of Housing Group, and how he got this the concept from the life and spatial composition of villages. It could be pointed out that the main factors of the Unwin theory are social mixture, creation of community consciousness and informal landscape design, and that the small enclosed space with plenty of amenity is his main theme. It is pointed out that the Unwin theory is composed of recognizing urban life as totality, and group planning theory, and that he definitely originated a new technique: Housing Group. It is analyzed that the syntactic relations between the group planning theory and housing designs in the English garden suburbs are epitomized in Hampstead Garden Suburb, Middlesex.

  • 1990년대에 들어와 전원주택시장은 급격하게 성장했다. 대도시 주민의 전원지향 이주와 전원주택시장의 급성장을 초래한 사회경제적 배경은 소비주체의 생활양식 변화, 건설자본의 사업환경 변화에 대한 대응, 국가의 법적·제도적 지원과 밀접한 관련성을 가진다. 실제로, 수도권지역에서 전원주택은 경관이 수려하고 자연환경이 잘 보존된 한강축, 접근성이 양호한 고속도로축, 일산 신도시에서 파주로 나아가는 북방축 등 세축을 따라 뚜렷한 성장세를 보인다. 그러므로 대도시 주민이 선호하는 전원주택의 주요 입지적 속성은 자연환경과 접근성이라 할 수 있다.

The Creation of Ttukseom Pleasure Ground and Its Transformation to a Park (뚝섬유원지의 생성과 공원화)

  • Ttukseom was once a suburban area that had a government horse ranch for national use and a naenogpo (area of royal farm land). During the Japanese colonial period, a pleasure ground was built at Ttukseom, and after independence, it has been used as a park through the process of urbanization. This study examines the creation of the Ttukseom Pleasure Ground and the process through which the pleasure ground were transformed to a park. This study also explores its landscape and cultural aspects. In the 1930s, Gyeongseonggwedo (京城軌道), a private railway company, built a pleasure ground at Ttukseom to attract passengers, according to the business model of Japanese railway companies, in which recreational areas were developed near railway routes. Mass media portrayed this area as a "rural landscape" in contrast to the city. The Ttukseom Pleasure Ground emerged as a popular summer resort for Gyeongseong citizens. At the same time, it was managed by Gyeongseongbu (京城府). The city of Seoul began to manage the Ttukseom Pleasure Ground following independence, and development plans for Ttukseom as a pleasure ground or a park were continuously drafted but never implemented. Even after Korea's independence, the operation and use of the pleasure ground did not change significantly from the colonial era. In the late 1980s, the Ttukseom Pleasure Ground became the Ttukseom Han River Citizen's Park, and the sandy beach of the Han River was removed. Nonetheless, the previous facilities and major activities such as an open-air swimming pool, camp ground, and areas for boat recreation remained as major park programs. When the urbanization of Ttukseom was completed, its idyllic image disappeared and it became a park instead of a pleasure ground. Since parks expand their programs, it can be concluded that by providing those kinds of programs, the Ttukseom Pleasure Ground transformed to a park.

A study on Determinant Factors of Preferred elderly Housing based on Location among Preliminary Elders (예비 고령자의 입지유형별 고령자 주택 선택요인 분석)

  • This study aims to draw a Housing development scheme of elderly housing, including the urban, suburban and resort type according to location type, which is based on a Demanding Characteristics of preliminary elderly for elderly housing. In addition, The comprehensive implication tells that the preliminary elderly who wants the urban elderly housing type have a more personal characteristics than other types. So it should be considered according to personal characteristics. Next, when we choose the suburban elderly housing type and predict the demand for housing development, it should not only considers factors such as the Unmarried children, Health status, Current housing size and Plans for economic activity in old age but also considers factors such as the Accessibility, Convenience, Investment and Environment characteristics of elderly housing preference. Next, when we choose the resort elderly housing type which based on the fact that a few detailed parameters of current housing characteristics exist, it should be based on the current housing characteristics of preliminary elderly. In addition, it should consider a pre-investigation for elderly housing preference in order to select the housing type. Because a comprehensive preference such as the comfort, convenience, safety, investment, environmental characteristics is considered as major determinants factors.

A Study on Measuring Urban Sprawl and Its Policy Implications for Urban Growth Management and Urban Regeneration in Seoul Capital Region (수도권 도시 스프롤 평가에 따른 도시성장관리 및 도시재생 정책 방향에 관한 연구)

  • Urban sprawl has been criticized due to its negative effects, including the encroachment of farmland and open spaces, the increase in traffic congestion and air pollution, the decline of central city, the decrease in social capital, and the unfairness of tax burdens on infrastructure and public services. This study measures urban sprawl in the capital region of South Korea where the characteristics of urban sprawl have been known to be different from those identified in the U.S. metropolitan areas. In particular, the study examines whether the capital region has experienced the decline of the central city with an expansion of low density residential development in suburban areas. Three measurements, the sprawl index with population density, the ratio of changes in urbanized areas to changes in population, and the population density gradient, were employed to measure urban sprawl, and GIS mapping and descriptive analysis were used to examine the central city decline and the characteristics of development patterns in suburban areas. The results show that the capital region of South Korea is moving to the American style sprawled development with the decline of the central city and an increase of single detached homes in suburban areas, implying that policy makers need to develop growth management strategies to prevent urban sprawl and its negative effects that many U.S. metropolitan areas have suffered from.

Link analysis considering the satellite mobility in the LEO mobile communication networks (저궤도 이동위성통신망에서 위성의 이동성을 고려한 링크해석)

  • In this paper, we analyze the multipath fading and the inter-satellite interference considering the satellite mobility in the LEO mobile satellite communication networks and evaluate the link perfodrmance for various wave propagation environments and reliabilities of communiation system. Multipath fading is estimated by analyzing the variation of fading margin for the satellite motion in rural, urban and suburban environments. The inter-satellite interferences are classified into 8 bypes with respect to interference path. The interferences evaluated in the paper are as follows:intra-LEO satellite interference, inter-LEO satellite interference, and GEO satellite to LEO satellite interference. As a conclusion, this apaper analyzes the change of elevation anagle and propagation distance with respect to time in the LEO satellite netwoek and prosents the variation of link margin continuously.

  • 도시의 일상생활에서는 시가지의 바람이 나무, 집 등 낮은 건축물 군에 의해 방해되어 보통은 전원의 바람보다 풍속이 저감되는 경우가 많다. 이러한 기존의 바람 흐름이 있는 곳에 건축물이 세워지게 되면 기존의 풍환경은 크게 변화되어 풍속이 약한 곳과 강한 곳이 조성되어 이와 같은 바람이 지표부근의 구조물에 의해 받는 영향은 도시지역에서 강하게 나타나게 된다. 이는 교외나 시골지역은 상대적으로 도시지역에 비해 영향을 적게 받게 된다. 임의의 지역, 특히 도시지역의 경우 기존의 건물이 증축되거나 혹은 새로운 건물이 신축되면 이로 인하여 기존의 바람흐름이 달라지며 이는 인접건물들의 확보하고 있던 자연 환기력의 변화를 야기 시키는 원인이 되기도 한다. 이러한 현상은 건축물에 의해 자연 환기력이 바뀌게 되는 일종의 기존 환경으로 부터의 변화를 의미한다. 본 연구에서는 수치해석을 이용하여 이와 같이 건물의 주변 환경변화, 즉 신축, 증축 등과 같은 변화를 고려하여 그 영향을 예측/분석하였다. 그 결과로 건물의 자연환기력을 전면에서 바람에 의한 압력증가와 후면에서 바람의 흡입에 의한 압력감소로 인해 전면의 풍속에 의해 발생하는 동압보다 큰 압력차가 발생하고, 그로 인해 환기량이 발생하는 것을 알수 있다. 주변 변화에 의해서는 동일한 규모의 건물이 추가되는 경우에 기존의 경우에 비해 35~45%의 자연환기격이 감소되는 것으로 나타났다.

Englishness represented in a Cottage Garden (코티지 가든에 표상된 영국성)

  • Gardening activities, plant raising, and general flowerbeds the public makes today can be found in the original form of cottage gardens in the United Kingdom. A cottage garden is a popular garden style of modern Britain, implying unique Englishness including ethnic sense and vernacular. In addition, the purpose of this study is to consider the modern movement in the United Kingdom in the past 200 years and read Englishness of cottage gardens through style differentiation and background of occurrence of cottage gardens appearing in this process. Therefore, this study is summarized as follows. First, a view of nature of the Englishman loving freedom and landscape acts as a key part of patriotism and is connected to the preservation of idyllic England. For this ideal of the Englishman of the country, idyllic British characteristics are found in various literatures and artistic fruits; cottage gardens, that is a form of new garden, were made with invigoration of supply and collection of plants. Second, an early form of cottage gardens was the domestic garden, in which there is a vegetable garden by middle-class move to a suburb according to urbanization, but evolved into a form of garden having both artistry and regionality, vernacular, and ecological characteristics with various situations of modern society(handicraft promotion movement, preservation of remains, and ancient building restoration movement). Wild gardens occurring in this process are a type of garden realizing wild fields and forests in the United Kingdom;they have made a big impact on many garden designers up to now. Cottage gardens, reflecting a variety of Englishness, is a subject of city planning and flower shows and is a culture symbolizing the United Kingdom.

A study of the elderly housing type development plan considering the Preconsumer Housing Characteristic -focused on Seoul metropolitan area- (예비 수요자 주택선호특성을 고려한 유형별 고령자주택 개발방안에 관한 연구 -수도권을 중심으로-)

  • The society experiencing the industrialization and urbanization has got over the socio-demographic change. these changes make the number of the population around the world, and this phenomenon is flowing into the whole country. Korea has became a Aging Society since 2000 and will be turned into the aged society by the 2018. therefore, the importance of preparing elderly living life such as silver town is getting emphasized. the purpose of this study is aimed at analyzing the decision elements of the preliminary demanders' intention who selecting Elderly Housing. Based on this study, it was broken down by the type much more. Binary Logistic Regression Analysis of Factors affecting the Elderly housing choices were subdivided. Through this process, improvement and the implications of this study was derived. this study deducts 3 kinds of implications. First, the preference for the development of elderly housing are different with each type of characteristics. Second, the indicators along with the individual characteristics account for the most part of the surface. so the specific investigation for the demand must be required to check the indicators. Third, when it comes to development of urban elderly housing, it requires to have a part of a local government plans securing the land. Fourth, when it comes to development of suburb elderly housing, it is required to arrange the living environment around the suburbs to let user classes living in Gyeonggi-do flow into elderly housing and live their new-life in the suburbs. Finally, when it comes to development of rural elderly housing, a variety of production, leisure and other programs should be made and put into there.
