  • An experimental study of the flame response in a turbulent premixed combustor has been conducted in order to investigate mechanisms for combustion instabilities in lean premixed gas turbine combustor. A lab-scale combustor and mixing section system were fabricated to measure the flame transfer function. Measurements are made of the velocity fluctuation in the nozzle using hot wire anemometry and of the heat release fluctuation in the combustor using chemiluminescence emission. The results are analyzed to determine the phase and gain of the flame transfer function as a function of the modulation frequency and operating conditions.

  • The present report aimed at evaluating the effect of bisphenol A(BPA) and diethylstilbestrol(DES) on Leydig or Sertoli cell-lines. To identify the differences in the susceptibility to BPA upon different cell-types, assay of the cell viability was done on TM3(Leydig cells) and TM4(Sertoli cells) cell-lines. The result indicates that Sertoli cells are more sensitive to low dose of BPA than Leydig cells. Also, the BPA- or DES-treated Sertoli cells showed a reduction of phospholipase D(PLD) activity identically. According to the confirmation of the mRNA expression of fas receptor and fas ligand in the BPA-treated cells, fas/fasL system activated by BPA will deliver the apoptosis signal onto Sertoli TM4 cells. However, Fas/FasL system was not activated in the DES-treated cells unlike the BPA-treated cells.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output) underwater acoustic communication by using the acquired data via the experiments in water tank. First of all, in the pursuit of this aim, we have measured the channel transfer characteristics at several transceiver locations. The transmitted signal was modulated by QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shit Keying) and the received signal was recovered through the detector that contains the zero forcing equalizer. A maximum 30~40 ms delay was appeared because of physically closed water tank environment that has the harsh multi-path transmission conditions. In result of experiment, even though the bit error rate showed comparatively large when $2{\times}2$ MIMO system with two transmitters and receivers was considered. However, we confirmed it has approximately 15% enhanced performance compared with SISO (Single-Input Single-Output) system.

  • Hybrid propulsion systems provide many advantages in terms of stable operation and safety. However, classical hybrid rocket motors have lower fuel regression rate and combustion efficiency compared to solid propellant rocket motor. The recent research efforts are focused on the improvement of volume limitation and regression rate in the hybrid rocket engine. The present study has numerically investigated the combustion processes in the hybrid rocket engine. The turbulent combustion is represented by the eddy breakup model and Hiroyasu and Nagle and Strickland-Constable model are used for soot formation and soot oxidation. Radiative heat transfer is modeled by finite volume method. To reduce the uncertainties for convective heat transfer near solid fuel surface having strong blowing effect, the Low Reynolds number $\kappa-\varepsilon$ turbulent model is employed. Based on numerical results, the detailed discussion has been made for the turbulent combustion processes in the vortex hybrid rocket engine.

  • A large scale hydrological laboratory model tests for the geotextile tube were conducted to investigate the stability of geotextile tube and the capability of breakwater with variations of significant wave height, percentage of soil filling, and the water level above geotextile tube. The sliding displacement of geotextile tube is measured to check the stability of geotextile tube for given the various significant wane heights. The marked mash was laid out at the bottom of water channel to measure the displacement of geotextile tube. The bench mark was furnished in the upper part of water channel and the initial location was marked every 10cm interval to measure the displacement of geotextile tube. The wane transmit ratios are analyzed with the variations of soil filling of tube and of the top crown height wave above the geotextile tube in order to study the performance of brekwater before and after the installation of geotextile tube.

  • The influence of deposition parameters on the deposition of $SnO_2$ thin films by spray pyrolysis has been studied. In the case of spray solution with tile concentration of 0.01M, at low deposition temperature the deposition was controlled by surface reaction and portion controlled by mass transfer is increased with increasing deposition temperature to $400^{\circ}C$. Above $400^{\circ}C$, the deposition is controlled by mass transfer at low spray pressure, and by surface reaction at high spray pressure. As the concentration of spray solution increased the deposition rate increased, and in this experiment the deposition depends on the Rideal-Eley mechanism. The deposition rate increased with increasing substrate temperature up to $400^{\circ}C$ and then decreased due to homogeneous nucleation. The thickness of the deposit increased with increasing spray duration, and the adhesion between substrate and deposit was formed physically.

  • MANPADS (man-portable air defense system) is a counterweapon system against enemy aircraft, tracking the MWIR (mid-wavelength of infrared) signature of the plume. Under foggy conditions, however, multiple scattering phenomenon caused by the particles affects the MWIR transmittance, and the MANPADS detection performance. Therefore, in this study we analyzed the lock-on range of MANPADS with varying fog conditions and plume characteristics. To analyze the optical extinction properties and transmittance in fog, Mie scattering theory and analytic solution of the radiative-transfer equation are utilized. In addition, we used flare signature as an alternative MWIR light source. We confirmed that the lock-on range could be noticeably reduced under conditions of mist, and proportional to the flare temperature.

  • The performance of underwater acoustic communication is greatly affected by multipath propagation and Doppler spread. This paper proposes a new communication technique, the Triangle Spread Carrier (TSC) technique, by modifying the existing Sweep Spread Carrier (SSC) technique that is strong in a multipath propagation environment. The proposed TSC technique is a form in which the up-chirp and down-chirp signals have repeated carriers, and each correlation function characteristic is used to estimate and correct the Doppler shift frequency of the receiving signal. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed TSC technique, we present the results of simulations using underwater channel simulators and sea trial conducted in the East Sea. When demodulating using only the estimated Doppler shift frequency as a result of the sea trial, the uncoded bit error rate was up to 0.194, but when the proposed method was applied, the uncoded bit error rate was reduced to 0.001.
