  • Engineering methodology which is defined broadly as the various nontechnical knowledge such as design process and the personal skills such as creativity that an engineer must have to be a successful practitioner, is not sufficiently implemented in the present undergraduate engineering programs. A systematic design education model is proposed in this paper to teach the principles and art of engineering. First level design education is to introduce engineering process and cultivate student's creativity. Second one is to apply the knowledge of sciences, mathematics and engineering sciences to the solution of basic engineering problems. Third one is to solve a real-life problem.

  • In this paper, to solve the imbalance between the skill factors demanded by the industry and the curriculum of the universities, demand-oriented educational contents are developed in the computer-software field. In the field, five tracks are selected: Software Development, System Integration, Embedded System Software, Multimedia and Game Software, and Business Information Technology. In each track, a curriculum with four demand-oriented courses is developed to reflect the demands of the IT industry. Detailed syllabuses and course materials are developed as well. Applying these artifacts, lectures have been performed at universities since 2004.

  • This paper examines what kind of writing ability KEC2005 requires for upper grades of engineering college. According to KEC2005, they need writing ability in the field of majors, especially capstone design subjects as well as general communication skills. An experience on preparing a quasi-research paper has some potential to be better for these demands than other writing training forms. The contents of assignments submitted by the students taking a class 'Writing in Science & Technology' in Seoul National University in 2009 supported this point of view. This paper is about a case study discussing the detailed relationship between KEC2005 and writing, and helps engineering colleges to design their own writing programs.

  • As the interests in the flipped learning has recently been increased in the educational field, the number of engineering professors has tended to apply the flipped learning method to their classes. However there has been few research which guide to design engineering courses applying the flipped learning method. This study aims to suggest an instructional design model for the flipped learning according to the case of applying the flipped learning method to an engineering course, "Mechanical Vibrations". This study provides practical guidelines for engineering professors to design their theory oriented courses applying the flipped learning method.

  • The Internet is changing or even eliminating old organizational schemes, including education. A growing number of universities and graduate schools are creating curriculums to reflect these changes. Business schools have prepared their students for a corporate world to offer some E-commerce courses. While E-commerce courses are proliferating in computer and information science schools, they are also spreading to other university departments including law and advertising. The objective of this paper is to suggest a prototype E-commerce curriculum for E-commerce departments. First, we survey and compare the E-commerce curriculum offered in many universities. Second, we provide the new E-commerce curriculum model for Korean universities. E-courses are classified as three knowledge areas of E-commerce courses such as business, technology, and core. We prioritize E-courses selected and rank their importance through an exploratory study for suggesting the undergraduate or graduate curriculum.

  • This study evaluates Core Competences of Librarianship announced at the congress of American Library Association on January 27th, 2009. For this study, we trained 17 librarians working at academic library, and find out each importance, major intention, required subjects regarding 8 scopes and 40 detailed qualifications indicated Core Competences of Librarianship through survey. The result of this study is that importance order of 8 scopes is organization of recorded knowledge and information, foundations of the profession, reference and user services, and importance order of major intention is foundations of the profession, research, reference and user services respectively. Importance order of required subjects for nurturing Core Competences of Librarianship is library management, information service, and introduction to library and information science, library and information policy, research methods for librarianship, and library automation respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of SERVICE-LEARNING related to geriatric oral health according to dental hygiene education. The result of this study were summarized as follows: 1. Self-efficacy and altruism & social responsibility was higher in post SERVICE-LEARNING than in pre SERVICE-LEARNING(p < 0.05). 2. Comparing pre-score of self-efficacy and altruism & social responsibility in terms numbers of grade and service frequency, they showed statistically significant (p < 0.05). 3. Comparing the service frequency and satisfaction score after SERVICE-LEARNING, they showed statistically significant (p < 0.05). 4. Comparing service satisfaction score in terms numbers of grade and service frequency, they showed statistically significant (p < 0.05). 5. Comparing the service frequency and curriculum subject evaluation after SERVICE-LEARNING, they showed statistically significant (p < 0.05). 6. Comparing the curriculum subject evaluation score in terms numbers of grade and service frequency, they showed statistically significant (p < 0.05). 7. Result of post test(1 & 3grade, 2 & 3grade) for score difference of self-efficacy, altruism & social responsibility, service satisfaction, curriculum subject evaluation showed statistically significant(p < 0.05).

  • This paper tried to derive a GIS curriculum in geography and the estimation of the number of faculty members to teach GIS. To do this, geography departments of universities in Korea and the United States were compared based on the number of faculty members and the main structure of a GIS curriculum. Five universities of NCGIA and UCGIS in the United States and 27 universities in Korea were selected, and their GIS programs were analyzed on GIS curricula, the size of faculty, and program management. The US geography programs typically provide both GIS majors and GIS certificate programs, but Korean geography programs do not. At least, seven GIS courses(21 credits) are required for fulfillment of major degrees in the U.S., but only two courses(6 credits) are required in Korean geography programs. As far as the size of GIS faculty, it averages less than 25% of entire geography faculty in Korean universities, while it takes up about 31% in the U.S.. In this paper, the establishment of 19 GIS courses was suggested as a GIS curriculum for partial fulfillment of a geography major, and two GIS faculty members were recommended to maintain a stable GIS program of geography departments. The enhancement of GIS curricula and faculty size can provide geography graduates with more opportunities for employment and better react to diverse GIS-related public demands, which are important for the successful future of geography programs.
