  • With the spread of COVID-19, the role of parks has been emphasized. Under the quarantine guidelines, including social distancing, people are visiting parks as a safe place. In line with these changes, parks need to be studied as pandemic adaptation measures according to their physical and location characteristics. This study aims to explore the potential of linear parks with accessibility and pass way functions based on the characteristics of surrounding land uses. The case study area was selected from Yeonnam-dong to Yeomni-dong of the Gyeongui Line Forest Park, and the area was divided into 4 sections based on the administrative boundary and surrounding land uses. Multiple regression models were adopted in each section using the total number of de facto population as a dependent variable and factors affecting external activities including COVID-19 as independent variables. The results show that first, the more diverse the interaction between commercial facilities and linear parks, the greater the impact of the pandemic. Second, where various commercial facilities are concentrated people respond more sensitively to short-term weather changes than seasonal ones. This study indicates that there are differences in the use of linear parks according to the surrounding land uses. In addition, it suggests that the linear park has potential as a means to overcome the Pandemic crisis of the city and to increase equity in access to green areas.

  • This study investigated science education experts' perception of remote laboratory sessions (RLS) provoked by the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted a total of 10 semi-structured interviews with experts in physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science education. As a result, science education experts primarily understood the RLS concerning pre-service teacher education and reconsidered the aim and goal of conventional laboratory education. On practices of RLS provoked by the COVID-19, they pointed out the learning loss due to deficiency of hands-on experience, decreased interactions between instructor and students, and instructors' increased burden. Meanwhile, they contemplated upon their adaptive implementation of RLS to suggest ways to improve RLS instruction and directions of post-COVID-19 science education. We recommend that RLS should be understood as a complemented version of minds-on teaching rather than a degraded version of hands-on teaching to elicit its full potentials. This study has its own significance providing an in-depth science educational perspective interpreting the RLS phenomena.

  • Conventional two-tier databases have shown performance limitation in the presence of many concurrent clients. To this end, the three-tier architecture that exploits similarities in client's object access behavior has been proposed. In this system, clients are partitioned into clusters, and object requests can be then served in inter-cluster manner. Introducing an intermediate layer between server(s) and clients enables this. In this paper, we introduce the problem of client realignment in which access behavior changes, and propose on-line client clustering. This system facilitates adaptive reconfiguration and redistribution of sites. The core issue in this paper is to demonstrate the effectiveness of on-line client clustering. We experimentally investigate the performance of the scheme and necessary costs.

  • The problem of maneuvering target tracking has been studied in the field of the state estimation over decades. The Kalman filter has been widely used to estimate the states of the target, but in the presence of a maneuver, its performance may be seriously degraded. In this paper, to solve this problem and track a maneuvering target effectively, DNA coding-based intelligent Kalman filter (DNA coding-based IKF) is proposed. The proposed method can overcome the mathematical limits of conventional methods and can effectively track a maneuvering target with only one filter by using the fuzzy logic based on DNA coding method. The tracking performance of the proposed method is compared with those of the adaptive interacting multiple model (AIMM) method and the GA-based IKF in computer simulations.

  • Recent studies report that in terms of object memory, survival context has mnemonic advantage over other context conditions (e.g., Nairne et al, 2007). The present experiments explored whether this effect can also affect task-irreverent object location memory, and tested whether the context can change gender difference in object location memory. Participants were asked to rate the relevance of pictures presented at random locations (experiment 1) or words (experiment 2) under survival context or moving context. After rating the pictures or words, they answered recall test and location retrieval test. The results revealed higher accuracy in memory for objects encoded under survival context. Moreover, survival processing enhanced location memory, and the survival advantage in location memory emerged among woman.

  • There are some difficulties to construct a sensory-motor controller for an autonomous mobile robot such as coordinating the mechanics and control system parts of the robot, and managing interaction with external environments. In previous research, we evolve the CAM-Brain, neural networks based on cellular automata, to control an autonomous mobile robot. In this paper, we propose the method of combining multi-modules evolved to do simple behavior in order to making more sophisticated behaviors because the controller composed of one neural network module is difficult to make complex behaviors. In experimental results, we can get the controller adapting to more complex environments by combining CAM-Brain modules evolved to do simple behavior by rule-based approach.

  • In recent years, human is experiencing an 'untact' era that has not been existed before. A remarkable features of an untact era is a limited or no interaction with other people and things in a daily life. In order to overcome this special situation, diverse state-of-the-art technologies like ICT technology are being used to give the effect of face-to-face and contact. In particular, Virtual Reality technology allows users to actively interact with virtual environments, objects, and other people, thereby providing effects that are as similar as possible to experience in real life. School freshmen are also experiencing various inconveniences because they are not experiencing the environment or academic management of newly admitted schools in the untact era. This research is a study and implementation of 'Virtual School Life Experience Content' which provides new students to tour campus, to utilize the school buildings facilities, to experience of academic schedules including course registration, and to participate in school events in an environment that is as close as possible to the real campus. Freshmen will be able to easily adapt to a new school through the implemented VR content.

  • In this paper, We propose a method with which we can detect facial components and face in input image. We use eye map and mouth map to detect facial components using eyes and mouth. First, We find out eye zone, and second, We find out color value distribution of skin region using the color around the eye zone. Skin region have characteristic distribution in YCbCr color space. By using it, we separate the skin region and background area. We find out the color value distribution of the extracted skin region and extract around the region. Then, detect mouth using mouthmap from extracted skin region. Proposed method is better than traditional method the reason for it comes good result with accurate mouth region.

  • This study deals with the visual quality in the future urban landscape and architectural environment, and as such, aims to identify a scientific and objective aesthetic and visual quality from the perspective of empirical aesthetics. The empirical aesthetics provides a framework that can be utilized in understanding human perception, consciousness, and behavior and a way to categorize the visual quality and to explain and predict its effect. The study examines various theories on environmental perception, cognition, and some new approaches to environmental aesthetics, and tries to present aesthetic properties that can be applied to environmental design. First, the aesthetic experience in visual perception can be defined as a combined effect of psychobiological properties and human activity, i.e. an interaction between the formal and symbolic signs in environment and the conceptual framework of man. The effect of visual quality differs and varies a great deal, depending on the sociocultural, personal and collective value system, so it is hard to define it in absolute terms. Second, the impact of visual quality and its aesthetic effect has to do with pleasure, preference, the aptitude for survival, and self regulation. Third, aesthetics is one of the areas that can benefit a great deal from an interdisciplinary approach. and an empirical study such as this can be used as a basis for design, planning, and evaluation.

  • Previous studies of music, user interface, and human-computer interaction have used sounds which include musical structure rather than real music. This study investigated whether real music affects objective and perceived usability. Silence, sound, and music conditions were compared in experiment 1 (kimchi refrigerator) and 2 (remote controller for air conditioner). Participants' performances of reaction time and accuracy, and the degree of subjective satisfaction were analyzed. The results showed that main effects on task performances were not different significantly; however, perceived usability of music condition was better than sound condition, which was better than silence condition. It means that musical user interface improves perceived usability while not interfering task performance. This study provides a basis of emotional and aesthetic effects of music in home appliances design, and can be applied to studies for the blind. More specific guideline for the musical user interface can be drafted if further studies consider more various tasks, context, musical structure and types for the appliances.
