Image Retrieval Using Multiresoluton Color and Texture Features in Wavelet Transform Domain (웨이브릿 변환 영역의 칼라 및 질감 특징을 이용한 영상검색)

  • We propose a progressive image retrieval method based on an efficient combination of multiresolution color and torture features in wavelet transform domain. As a color feature, color autocorrelogram of the hue and saturation components is chosen. As texture features, BDIP and BVLC moments of the value component are chosen. For the selected features, we obtain multiresolution feature vectors which are extracted from all decomposition levels in wavelet domain. The multiresolution feature vectors of the color and texture features are efficiently combined by the normalization depending on their dimensions and standard deviation vector, respectively, vector components of the features are efficiently quantized in consideration of their storage space, and computational complexity in similarity computation is reduced by using progressive retrieval strategy. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields average $15\%$ better performance in precision vs. recall and average 0.2 in ANMRR than the methods using color histogram color autocorrelogram SCD, CSD, wavelet moments, EHD, BDIP and BVLC moments, and combination of color histogram and wavelet moments, respectively. Specially, the proposed method shows an excellent performance over the other methods in image DBs contained images of various resolutions.

Physiological Activity and Effects on Lipid Peroxidation of Hot Water-Extract Obtained from Euonymus alatus in Cultured Rat Hepatocyte (Rat의 hepatocyte에서 $amyloid-{\beta$}$로 유발된 세포사, 지질과산화 및 세포산화에 대한 귀전우 열수 추출물의 보호효과)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the physiological activityof the water extract from EA. The present study was done to investigate the effects of EA on cultured hepatocyte cell system and lipid peroxidation in $A{\beta}$ treatment conditions. Pretreatment of EA attenuated in cell cytotoxicity enhanced by increasing concentrations of $A{\beta}$. MDA level induced by $A{\beta}$ treatment was significantly increased and the level was slightly reduced by pretreatment of EA. The ability of EA to reduce cell death and MDA level induced by $A{\beta}$ suggest that EA may be a protective agent against free radical generating compounds such as $A{\beta}$. EA exhibited anti oxidative activity at all concentration tested.The extract was as good as antioxidative activity of the synthetic antioxidants, butylated hydroxy toluene and ascorbic acid. Furthermore, this was superior to that of natural antioxidant, a-tocopherol. In the presence of heavy metal ions ($Fe^{2+},{\;}Zn^{2+}$), EA showed strong antioxidative activity. The extracts showed about 3075% in the nitrite scavenging effect under pH 1.2 and $37^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. There was significant difference among concentration of extracts.

  • Regard to the global warming, the shipping industries are progressed the dedicated endeavor to reduce greenhouse gas. As the study results of 2009 GHG study team, the $CO_2$ emission of shipping industries exceeded slightly 1.0 billion ton during one year(2007) and it is 3.3% of total $CO_2$ amount exhausted from all industries. This paper are introduced the energy efficiency design index / operation indicator monitoring system(EDiMS) which matched with EVAMOS software released by the dynamics laboratory of Mokpo maritime university. EDiMS can continuously be monitored amounts of $CO_2$, NOx, SOx, and PM emitted from ship and it can be applied as the useful tool of the inventory work of air pollution and the ship energy management plan for the mitigation or reduction of ship emission.

Evaluation of Stability in the Purified Wood Vinegar and Its Hair Growth Effect (목초액의 안정성 및 모발 성장 촉진 효과)

  • Generally, it takes a long time to purify wood vinegar, and it contains toxic compounds such as tar, methanol, phenol and benzopyrene. To reduce the toxicity of wood vinegar itself, we have developed a new purification method of wood vinegar using an oxidation-cohesion reaction and distillation with an active carbon. We have investigated the physico-chemical change (pH, specific gravity, refractive index and dissolved tar), the change of amount of toxic compounds (carbonyl group, phenol, benzopyrene and residual solvents) and organic acids (formic acid (FA), acetic acid (AA), propionic acid (PA)) of the purified wood vinegar under the long term and accelerated storage conditions. Also, we have evaluated the effect of the purified wood vinegar on hair growth using an alopecia model of C57BL/6 mice. As a result, we could find out that the purified wood vinegar was stable and remained without decay under the storage conditions and benzopyrene, a carcinogenic agent, was not detected in the purified wood vinegar. After topical treatment of the purified wood vinegar solution or minoxidil (MXD) for 2 weeks to dorsal skin, the hair regrowth of the mice accelerated faster than that of the control, with no clinical signs. In conclusion, we could suggest a guideline for quality control of process to reduce the toxic compounds in wood vinegar and it might be a useful hair growth promoter in the treatment of baldness or alopecia.

A Linkage between IndoorGML and CityGML using External Reference (외부참조를 통한 IndoorGML과 CityGML의 결합)

  • Recently indoor navigation with indoor map such as Indoor Google Maps is served. For the services, constructing indoor data are required. CityGML and IFC are widely used as standards for representing indoor data. The data models contains spatial information for the indoor visualization and analysis, but indoor navigation requires semantic and topological information like graph as well as geometry. For this reason, IndoorGML, which is a GML3 application schema and data model for representation, storage and exchange of indoor geoinformation, is under standardization of OGC. IndoorGML can directly describe geometric property and refer elements in external documents. Because a lot of data in CityGML or IFC have been constructed, a huge amount of construction time and cost for IndoorGML data will be reduced if CityGML can help generate data in IndoorGML. Thus, this paper suggest practical use of CityGML including deriving from and link to CityGML. We analyze relationships between IndoorGML and CityGML. In this paper, issues and solutions for linkage of IndoorGML and CityGML are addressed.

A New Kiwifruit Variety, 'Halla Gold' with High Soluble Solids Content and Early Harvesting (고당도 조생종 참다래 신품종 '한라골드')

  • A new promising kiwifruit, 'Halla Gold' variety with yellow flesh and being harvested in October, was developed at the Agricultural Research Center for Climate Change, National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science, Rural Development Administration, Korea in 2007. This variety was derived from the seedling population crossed between Actinidia chinensis cv. Golden Yellow and A. chinensis cv. Songongu in 1997. It was selected out of 2,971 seedlings. Characteristic trials were carried out from 2001 to 2003. After the selection, adaptability test was also conducted at kiwifruit orchards in Jeju Island from 2003 to 2007. Shoots of 'Halla Gold' sprout slightly stronger than those of 'Jecy Gold' but weaker than 'Hort16A' and the color of leaf is green. Fruit shape is oblong and fruit skin color is yellowish-dark green without hair. The average weight of fruit is 106.3 g. Fruit has a moderate size soft core, yellow pericarp, and fragile and juicy flesh. Soluble solids content is $14.7^{\circ}$ Brix and acidity is 1.4%. The harvesting time is about 10 days earlier than 'Jecy Gold' and about 20 days ahead of 'Hort16A'. The storage life is about 90 days at $2^{\circ}C$. This variety can be recommended for cultivating at low land area bellow 100 m sea level in Jeju Island or under shelter to prevent disease and cold injury.

A Study on the Effect of Surfactants in Acrylic Emulsion Polymerization (아크릴 에멀젼 중합에서의 계면활성제 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive has been made utilizing organic solvents, but nowadays it is made by solvent-free system due to environmental problems. In this study, emulsion polymerization were carried out at $40^{\circ}C$ with methacrylic acid(MAA), n-butyl acrylate(n-BA) and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate(2-EHA) as monomers in the presence of anionic(sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) and nonionic(ethylene oxide types) surfactant mixtures. The overall conversion of the polymerization reaction in a mixed surfactant system was found to be higher than that in a single surfactant system. Emulsion stability in mixed or anionic surfactant systems was found to be over 12 week, which was better than that in nonionic surfactant system. Emulsion particle size decreased as surfactant content increased. The Tg and molecular weight of emulsion polymer were inependent of the type, the amount and the mixing ratio of surfactant. Based on the results of stability and peel strength, the optimum nonionic surfactant ratio in total 4 g of surfactant mixture systems is found to be 40~60% by weight where the nonionic surfactant has 50 ethylene oxide groups and 16~18 carbon atoms in hydrophobic alkyl chain.

Occurrence of Blue Mold on Sweet Persimmon(Diospyros kaki) Caused by Penicillium expansum (Penicillium expansum에 의한 감 푸른곰팡이병 발생)

  • A fruit rot of sweet persimmon(Diospyros kaki cv. 'Fuyu') that infected with blue mold was found during the storage and transport in Jinju Gyeongnam Province, Korea. Fruit surfaces that infected with the fungus were formed water soaked lesion at first then gradually colonized with the fungus and formed mycelial mats. From the point of infection, fruits become sunken and mostly ruptured. The pathogenic fungus was isolated from infected fruits and cultured on potato dextrose agar. The colonies of the pathogenic fungi were white at frist then became greyish green on malt extract agar. Conidia were ellipsoidal and $2.6{\sim}3.8{\times}2.4{\sim}3.8{\mu}m$ in size. Phialides were ampulliform, verticilate of 3-7, $8.0{\sim}9.2{\times}2.0{\sim}3.0{\mu}m$ in size. Metulae were verticils of 2-4, smooth, $9.0{\sim}12.6{\times}3.0{\sim}4.6{\mu}m$ in size. Ramuli were groups 1-3, smooth, $11.0{\sim}17.6{\times}2.3{\sim}3.0{\mu}m$ in size. Rami were groups 1-2, $7.5{\sim}32.6{\times}2.6{\sim}4.2{\mu}m$ in size. Stipes were septate, smooth, thin walled, $56{\sim}302{\times}2.8{\sim}4.0{\mu}m$ in size. Penicilli were mostly quaterverticillate. Based on the cultural and mycological characteristics as well as pathogenicity test on host plants, the fungus was identified as Penicillium expansum. This is the first report on the blue mold of sweet persimmon(Diospyros kaki) caused by P. expansum in Korea.

Quality Characteristics of Cheonggukjang Made with the Smoked Soybeans (훈연 처리한 콩으로 제조한 청국장의 품질 특성)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the fermentation characteristics of cheonggukjang made with smoked soybeans. The study found that the amino nitrogen content and pH of cheonggukjang made with smoked soybean (CSS) were significantly elevated compared to that of cheonggukjang made with non-smoked soybeans (CNS). On the other hand, the moisture content of CSS was significantly lower when compared to that of CNS. Moreover, there were no significant differences in the viscous substance content between CNS ($5.8{\pm}0.2%$) and CSS ($5.6{\pm}0.3%$). In terms of colour, the L and b values of CSS were higher than that of CNS, whereas the a value of CNS was higher than that of CSS. Hence, it was confirmed that the total isoflavone contents in CSS ($1,624.6{\pm}53.2{\mu}g/g$) were higher than that in CNS ($1,590.6{\pm}59.3{\mu}g/g$). In both CSS and CNS, the content of genistin was highest followed by glacitin and daidzein. Also, the number of aerobic bacteria in CNS ($8.1{\pm}0.4\;log\;cfu/g$) was higher than that in CSS ($7.3{\pm}0.3\;log\;cfu/g$). Taken together, a smoking process can useful for the development of new cheonggukjang products.

Measurement of Mutual Solubility of High-pressure Gaseous Fire Extinguishing Agents(HFCs) and Nitrogen (고압가스계 소화약제(HFCs계열)와 질소의 상호용해도 측정)

  • Bromotrifluoromethane(halon-1301) and bromochlorodifluoromethane(halon-1211) have been widely used as a clean fire extinguishing agents due to their outstanding properties. However, production and use of halon are currently being phased out under an international agreements Montreal Protocol because of global environmental concerns and HFCs have been considered as promising alter-natives for the replacement of halon since their ozone depletion potentials are low. The vapor-liquid equilibrium data are required as important basic information in evaluating the solubility of clean fire extinguishing agents and determining their optimal compositions. In this work, we chose HFCs such as HFC-22 HFC-125, and HFC-l34a for gaseous fire extinguishing agents and nitrogen as a pressurization gas for a proper jet velocity of these agents. Phase equilibria for binary mixtures of nitrogen/HFC-22, nitrogen/HFC-125, and nitrogen/HFC-l34a were measured in the temperature range from 283.15K to 303.15K. For equilibrium measurement, we used a circulation type apparatus in which both vapor and liquid phases were continuously recirculated. The experimental data were relatively well correlated with the Peng-Robinson equation of state with Wong-Sandier mixing rules.
