Effects of Humidity and Velocity on Frost Distribution Characteristics of Humid Air Flow on Cold Surfaces (차가운 표면위에서의 습공기 유동의 습도 및 속도가 착상분포 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to understand the heat and mass transfer characteristics of humid airflow in frosting conditions, a flat plate of aluminum with cooling modules located in the central part of the plate was used. A microscope system (resolution of 0.05 mm) was used for the measurement of local thickness of frost at seven points along the plate in the flow direction. For the total mass of frost at each test operation, an electronic balance (resolution of 1 mg) was used. The local frost thickness distributions far various test conditions were presented along with the frost mass data measured at the given operating times. The effect of humidity and velocity of humid air on frosting were analyzed.

Ultrasound-Aided Monolayer Assembly of Spherical Silica Nanobeads (초음파 방법을 이용한 실리카 나노비드의 단층 정렬에 관한 연구)

  • Uniform silica nanobeads were synthesized by St$\ddot{o}$ber method and assembled in the form of monolayer on glass substrate using sonication method. Before the assembly of silica nanobeads, glass substrates were treated with molecular linkers, such as CP-TMS and PEI, and nanobeads were dispersed in toluene. In attachment test, SO (sonication without stacking) method and SS (sonnication with stacking) method was used and sonication time was controled. After the experiment, microbalance was use to measure deviation between before and after the attachment experiment then calculate percent of coverage. Minutely observe with SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) then select the most close-packed and monolayer assembled cover glass and calculate DOC (Degree of Coverage). In SO method, DOC increased very sharply and reach over 140 percent point, also got lots of multi-layer region. On the other hand, in SS method DOC increased slower than SO method but more close-packed and monolayer assembled.

Experimental investigation on small scale siphon breaker (소규모 사이펀 차단기에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, a small-scale siphon breaker experimental facility was designed to examine the validity of the Siphon Breaker Simulation Program (SBSP). To design the experimental facility, the simulation results of the C factor, Chisholm B coefficient, and Undershooting Height (UH) were obtained by SBSP. The major parts of the experimental facility were the upper tank, lower tank, downcomer, and Siphon Breaker Line (SBL). The area of the Upper tank was $0.09-m^2$ with a height of 0.65-m. The height of the downcomer was 1.6-m. Pressure transmitters and an electronic scale were used to obtain the experimental results. The experimental variables were the sizes of Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) and SBL. The experimental results were analyzed by UH. The SBSP well predicted the UH with an error of 2.5%. Overall, it is possible to design siphon breakers with various scales using SBSP.

  • Load managing method on road became necessary since overloaded vehicles occur damage on road facilities and existing systems for preventing this damage still show many problems. Accordingly, efficient managing system for preventing overloaded vehicles could be organized by using the road itself as a scale by applying genetic algorithm to analyze the load and the drive information of vehicles. First of all, accurate analysis of load using the behavior of road itself is needed for solving illegal axle manipulation problems of overloaded vehicles and for installing intelligent embedded load analyzing system. Accordingly in this study, to use the behavior of road, the transformation was measured by installing underground box type indoor model and indoor experiment was held using genetic algorithm and 10% error were checked.

  • Self-assembled multilayer thin films of poly(ethylene-alt-maleic anhydride) (PEMAh) and poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4VP) were fabricated by layer-by-layer (LbL) sequential adsorption. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic analysis of the self-assembled PEMAh/P4VP multilayer films confirms that the driving forces for the multilayer buildup are the intermolecular hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions. The linear increase of absorption peak of P4VP at 256 nm with increasing number of PEMAh/P4VP bilayers indicates that the multilayer buildup is an uniform assembling process. We also investigate the effects of polyelectrolyte concenhation variation of the dipping solution and pH variation of the PEMAh solution on the multilayer film formation. Thickness. adsorbed polyelectrolyte mass and surface roughness of the multilayer films were measured by UV-visible spectroscopy, quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM), respectively.

$SO_2/O_2$ Separation Process with EMIm[$EtSO_4$] in SI Cycle for the Hydrogen Production by Water Splitting (물분해 수소제조를 위한 SI cycle에서의 EMIm[$EtSO_4$]를 이용한 $SO_2/O_2$ 분리공정)

  • $SO_2$ has been absorbed and separated selectively by an ionic liquid from $SO_2/O_2$ mixture decomposed from sulfuric acid during the thermochemical SI cycle for the water splitting. In order to design and operate high pressure $SO_2/O_2$ separation system, the solubility of $SO_2$ in [EMIm]$EtSO_4$ (1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ethylsulfate) has been measured by Magnetic Suspension Balance at high pressure and temperature. Based on the measured solubility, a pressurized separation system was set up and operated. 194 L/h of $SO_2$($SO_2:O_2$=0.65:1) has been separated with 99.85% of $O_2$ at the vent of absorption tower, which is 22.7% of the theoretically ideal capacity of the system. This discrepancy results from the reduced contact between the gaseous $SO_2$ and the ionic liquid. Increased $SO_2$ supply, scale-up of the absorption column, and a faster ionic liquid circulation speed were suggested to improve the separation capacity.

Weight Loss and Morphology of Nitrile Curable PFE and Peroxide Curable PFE after Exposing to $NF_3$ and $O_2$ Remote Plasmas ($NF_3$-와 $O_2$ 리모트 플라즈마 노출에 따른 니트릴 가교 과불소고무와 과산화물 가교 과불소고무의 무게 손실과 모폴로지 특성)

  • The plasma resistances of nitrile curable perfluoro elastomer (NT PFE) and peroxide curable PFE (PO PFE) after exposing to $NF_3$ and $O_2$ remote plasmas were investigated by analyzing weight loss and morphology of O-ring made of PFE. The compounds were designed following the typical formulations of O-ring/seal which were applied in semiconductor and LCD production site. They were blended by an open roll mill, and then, O-ring was finally made by hot press molding and oven curing. The weight loss was calculated and morphology was observed for each atmosphere and temperature by a digital weighing machine and SEM. As results, it was confirmed the weight loss and related morphology were meaningfully different according to the cure type of PFE, filler system, and the species of remote plasma.

  • The precise measurement of ultrasonic power is important to the qualify assurance and the safety of medical ultrasonic equipments In the Present work, a brier theory was introduced to determine the ultrasonic Power from the time valving balance-indication due to the radiation force acting on an absorbing target and/or other causes such as buoyancy during the repetition of on/off behavior of ultrasonic irradiation. The developed automated system measuring the ultrasonic power was described in detail with the precise mechanical alignment tool , the electric signal generation network, the control and measurement network and the appropriate procedure. The ultrasonic power measured by the developed system was compared to the reference data calibrated by the other national metrology institute at 1 MHz, 5 MHz, 10 MHz, and 15 MHz over the range 10 mW to 10 W. Their relative differences are within $5\%$.

Design of Fire Source for Railway Vehicles and Measurement of Critical Velocity in Reduced-Scale Tunnels (축소터널 철도차량 화원 설계 및 임계속도 측정연구)

  • In this study, the authors designed a reduced-scale railway vehicle fire, which was necessary for evaluating the fire safety of railway tunnels using a reduced model. To overcome the shortcomings of the methods used in conventional reduced-scale railway tunnel tests, the authors simulated the fire source of a railway vehicle using a methanol fire source for fire buoyancy, and a smoke cartridge for smoke visualization. Therefore, the heat release mass consumption rates of various methane trays were measured using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660). The critical ventilation velocity in the railway tunnels was obtained using the designed fire source of the railway vehicle, which was evaluated by the measured temperature at the top of the tunnel as well as laser visualization.

Evaluation of cavitation characteristics for anodized 5000 series Al alloy with various sealing treatment in sea water (양극산화 기술이 적용된 5000계열 알루미늄 합금의 다양한 실링처리에 따른 해수 내 캐비테이션 특성 평가)

  • 최근 국민 소득향상과 더불어, 여가시간 증가에 따라 해양레저에 대한 관심이 크게 높아지고 있으며, 그에 따라 레저용 선박 수요도 증가하고 있다. 기존 국내 소형 선박의 경우 FRP(fiber-reinforced plastic)재료로 선박을 건조해 왔다. 그러나 해양환경 규제 강화로 FRP 선박의 건조가 감소하고 있으며, 친환경 선박에 대한 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 따라서 FRP재료를 대체하는 선박용 재료로 친환경적이고 가벼운 소재인 알루미늄 합금 재료가 선박건조 분야에서 각광을 받고 있다. 특히 5000계열 Al-Mg 합금은 가공성과 용접성이 우수하여 주로 구조용으로 많이 사용되고 있으나 경량화에 따른 빠른 선속이 유체충격을 증가시켜 선체에 캐비테이션 손상을 일으킬 수 있다. Al-Mg 합금의 경우에 부식성이 대단히 큰 해양환경에서 부식과 캐비테이션 침식이 복합적으로 일어나면 손상이 빠르게 증가되는 경향을 나타내어 선박의 수명을 현저히 단축시켜 경제적인 손실을 초래한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 해수 내에서 Al-Mg 합금의 캐비테이션 저항성을 향상시키기 위해 알루미늄 합금 표면에 내식성 뿐만 아니라 경도 및 내마모성 등의 기계적 특성이 우수한 산화피막을 형성시키는 양극산화 기술을 적용하고, 다양한 봉공처리(sealing)방법에 따른 캐비테이션 특성을 평가하였다. 캐비테이션 실험은 압전(piezoelectric) 효과를 이용한 진동발생 장치를 사용하여 $30{\mu}m$ 진폭으로 일정하게 유지하였으며, 시편과 혼 팁 사이의 간격은 1mm로 하였다. 캐비테이션 실험 후에는 시편을 초음파 세척하여 진공 건조기에서 24시간 이상 건조한 후 정밀저울로 무게를 측정하였으며, 표면 손상 형상을 분석하기 위해 주사전자현미경(SEM)과 3D현미경을 이용하여 관찰하였다.
