  • Background: The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of self-efficacy promoting pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods: thirty six patients, with clinically stable COPD were randomly assigned: 18 to a rehabilitation group and another 18 as a control group, The subjects participated in a the self-efficacy promoting pulmonary rehabilitation program for 8 weeks. This program consisted of education, breathing retraining, exercise training, relaxation and counseling. The control group received education only. The outcome variables were self-efficacy, dyspnea, exercise endurance, pulmonary function, and quality of life. Dyspnea was measured using the modified Borg scale. Exercise endurance was measured by the six minute walking distance. The quality of life was measured by the quality of life index for pulmonary disease patients. Results: In the rehabilitation group after performing the self-efficacy promoting pulmonary rehabilitation program, the self-efficacy score, exercise endurance, and quality of life score were higher than the control group (p=0.007, p=0.038, and p=0.039, respectively). and the exertional dyspnea score was significantly lower than controls(p=0.045). However, the dyspnea score and FEV1 were similar after performing the self-efficacy promoting pulmonary rehabilitation program. Conclusion: The self-efficacy promoting pulmonary rehabilitation program is effective to in improve self-efficacy, exertional dyspnea, exercise endurance and quality of life in patients with COPD.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the development of family education program for stroke patients by investigating the degree of knowledge and educational needs of stroke patients. The subjects of the research were 116 families of the stroke patients at 3 rehabilitation hospitals located in the city G. In the data analysis, knowledge related to stroke and education needs were analyzed by independent t-test and ANOVA. Post-test was analyzed by Tukey test. As a results, the general knowledge about stroke was 4.54 points out of the total of 6 points, and there was a statistically significant difference in religion and education level. The full score of the symptoms knowledge of stroke was 15 points. Stroke - related symptom knowledge was a total score of 15 points out of 10.34 points, and there was a significant difference according to degree of education and monthly income. The knowledge of risk factors related to stroke was 8.98 points out of a total of 16 points and there were significant differences in education level, marital status and occupation. Educational needs were measured as 4.70 points on the scale of 5 points, which showed significant difference in education level and income. This study suggests the development of educational programs for families of different stroke patients to improve the quality of nursing care of stroke patients considering their knowledge and general needs for their knowledge and education needs of stroke patients.

  • This study is a descriptive study to identify the burden of family burden, general characteristics, and disease characteristics of patients undergoing cranial nerve rehabilitation in hospitalized rehabilitation hospitals and to identify the factors influencing the integration. The questionnaire was administered to 113 family members who were the primary care providers of rehabilitation in rehabilitation hospitals and analyzed using the SPSS statistics 22 program. The results of this study showed that the level of burden of the patient family was 3.16, the burden of the family was significantly different in the age of the caregiver, the educational level, and the relationship with the caregiver. There was no difference. Finally, the factors influencing family burden were identified as predictors of carer's age, education, religion, and relationship with the patient. It will be necessary to consider general characteristics in the development of an intervention program that lowers the burden of family rehabilitation.

  • With the rapid development of digital technology and the growing trend to integrate it into the medical field, recent studies suggest language rehabilitation for people with aphasia using virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mobile applications. This study conducted a scoping review to summarize the features of digital technology-based language rehabilitation for aphasia in the last four years (2018-2021) and draw implications for future research. A total of 20 papers met the selection criteria among the documents retrieved from the Web of Science, CINAHL, and RISS. This review demonstrates that digital technology could offer unique treatment content by gamification, individualization, and creating a realistic communication environment, and by utilizing them in various ways. Therefore, we expect digital technology-based language rehabilitation for aphasia could supplement the limitations of conventional language rehabilitation and provide a novel perspective on development of treatment content.

  • The Purpose of this study was to examine, the effects of depression, family Support, and medical suport on rehabilitation motivation among stroke patients. Participants in this cross- sectional, descriptive study were 206 stroke patients who completed a self-report structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation and stepwise multiple regression analyses with IBM SPSS Win 22 Program. Family support, medical support, education and age were strong predictors of rehabilitation motivation in stroke patients. These variables explained 58.3% of the variance in rehabilitation motivation. Depression was not a predictor of rehabilitation motivation. A higher level of rehabilitation motivation was associated with lower levels of depression and higher levels of family support and medical support. These results show that effective strategies for improving family support and medical support. are needed to improving rehabilitation motivation among stroke patients.

  • This study is an analysis and review of the international research on interventions using music for the rehabilitation of patients with Parkinson's disease(PD). It categorizes 24 intervention studies conducted over the last 20 years based on the level of music usage and type of music utilized. The aim of this analysis was to identify which musical elements improved timing issues related to the initiation and cessation of movement in patients with PD. The studies involved six with music-based interventions and 18 with rhythm-based interventions, depending on the level of music usage. Rhythm, a common element in music, was a suitable factor for addressing the participants' issues. Furthermore, this review suggests that the characteristics of the researchers impact the extent to which musical elements are used and the diversity of those elements, which influences the intervention's effectiveness. Therefore, this study provides information on how to specify and systematically consider intervention efforts and the use of musical elements that can be applied in rehabilitation for patients with PD.

  • Upper extremity dysfunction is a common consequence following stroke. Spontaneous recovery during the first six months post-stroke is rigorous and considered as a significant indicator of potential long-term progress. Various approaches have been utilized to regain functional upper limb movement necessary for independent living; however, conventional therapy approaches have failed to prove consistency, especially for subacute stroke patients. There is, thus, a need for innovative therapeutic strategies that motivate stroke survivors to facilitate neural and functional recovery during the critical window immediately following stroke. The effect of music on physical enhancement has been frequently reported in the field of medicine as well as neurorehabilitation. The efficacy of rhythm on lower extremity deficits has been well established. Yet, the rationale for using instrumental music making enhancing subacute upper extremities rehabilitation is not clearly described to date. Based on the key mechanism of music as sensori-motor movement facilitator, this paper reviews previous empirical research that utilized music-based interventions for upper extremity rehabilitation for stroke patients, either in the form of receptive or expressive activity. This paper, further, focuses on the current research trends in subacute stroke upper limb rehabilitation and provides applicable rationale of using instrumental music playing.
