Correlates of the Participation of Leisure Activities, Leisure Satisfaction, and Quality of Life among Disabled People (장애인의 여가활동참여와 여가만족, 삶의 질과의 관계)

  • The purpose of the this study was to investigate the association of the participation of leisure activities, leisure satisfaction and quality of life, and analyze the mediating effect of leisure satisfaction in the relationship between the participation of leisure activities and quality of life among people with disabilities. For the purpose, the data were collected by using non-random purposive and convenient sampling methods and 192 disabled people who reside in Daegu city and Kyungpook provinces filled out self-administered questionnaires for this study. Findings of the study indicated that there were statistically significant relationships among the participation of leisure activities, leisure satisfaction, and quality of life and active types of leisure activities such as physical activities, travel activities, and social participating activities were significantly related with leisure satisfaction and quality of life. In addition, the mediating effect of leisure satisfaction in the relationship between the participation of leisure activities and quality of life was statistically significant. Based on the findings of the study, possible practice implications for improving quality of life among disabled people and recommendation for further study were provided.

A Study on the Longitudinal Change Pattern and the Predictor Factor of Life Satisfaction of People with Disabilities: Focused on Social Capital including network and social participation (장애인의 삶의 만족도 변화양상과 예측요인에 관한 연구: 사회 자본의 구성개념인 네트워크와 사회참여를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the longitudinal change pattern of life satisfaction and the effect of social capital of people with disabilities. For this study, data were drawn from the panel data employment for the disabled from the second to the fifth. It includes 3,206 person with disabilities. The methodology adopted in this study is the latent growth curve modeling. The findings of this study are as follows: First, Life satisfaction has been decreased over years and the difference between individuals of life satisfaction of people with disabilities were statistically significant. Second, The intercept of life satisfaction in the disabled was positively associated with network, and slope of life satisfaction was negatively related to network. Third, social participation positively influences the intercept of life satisfaction but, no significant affect to the slope. Based on results of the study, practical implication and the political-approach to interventions for the better life satisfaction of the disabled are being discussed.

Effect of Self-efficacy of the Disabled Workers on Life Satisfaction : Mediated Effects of Job Satisfaction (근로 장애인의 자기효능감이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향 : 직무만족도의 매개 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediated effects of job satisfaction in the effect of self-efficacy on the life satisfaction for the disabled workers. The research method analyzed the data of 1,604 disabled workers in the 2nd Wave 1 to 4th(2016-2019) of the employment panel for the disabled as SPSS V22.0 and AMOS 22.0. The results of the study show that first, the self-efficacy of the disabled workers has a positive effect on the life satisfaction. Second, the self-efficacy of the disabled workers has been shown to have a significant positive effect on job satisfaction. Third, job satisfaction has been shown to have a positive effect on life satisfaction. Fourth, job satisfaction in the relationship between self-efficacy and life satisfaction of the disabled workers has a mediated effects. Based on the result, practical suggestions were presented for the welfare of the disabled.

The Moderating Effect of Quality of Life Disabled and Family Satisfaction among the Disabled Family (장애인가족 만족도와 장애인 삶의 질 매개효과 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the factors affecting the satisfaction level of the disabled and their families. As a major variable, the mediating effect of the change of the disabled was examined in the relationship between residential facilities satisfaction and family life satisfaction. A total of 810 responses were collected by conducting a questionnaire survey on 856 persons with disabilities and their parents. As a result, the facilities satisfaction for the disabled has a significant influence on the family life satisfaction and the change of the handicapped. In the relationship between facility satisfaction and family life satisfaction, the change of disabled showed partial mediating effect, and it was confirmed that the effect of facility satisfaction on family life satisfaction increased when there was a change in the disabled. The results of this study can be used as the basic data to structure the discussion of living facilities for people with disabilities and their families, as well as can be used to restructure policies and practices for residential support services for the disabled. In particular, it is meaningful as a basic data for proposing various future types of residential facilities required by parents of adults with disabilities.

The Effect of Income Status on Life Satisfaction of Middle-aged and Disabled Persons: Multiple Mediating Effects of Depression and Social Support (중장년 장애인의 소득지위가 삶의 만족에 미치는 영향: 우울과 사회적 지지의 다중매개효과)

  • This study analyzed whether depression and social support had a mediating effect between income status and life satisfaction of middle-aged and elderly people with disabilities using data from the 15th year of the Korea Welfare Panel data. As a result of the analysis, first, the income status of the middle-aged and disabled was depressed(B=.241, p<.001), social support(B=-.167, p<.001), and life satisfaction(B=-.277, p<.001) was confirmed to have a direct effect. Second, the mediating effect of depression and social support was verified on the influence between the income status of middle-aged and disabled people between life satisfaction. Third, it was confirmed that depression and social support had a multi-mediating effect between the income status and life satisfaction of middle-aged and disabled people. Therefore, an income support system that supports middle-aged and disabled people to live at an appropriate level should be prepared. In addition, in order to increase the life satisfaction of middle-aged and disabled people, it is necessary to intervene in mental health support services that can actively cope with depression and to expand the social support network.

The Effect of Digital Divide on Life Satisfaction of Disabled People (장애인의 정보 활용 격차가 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this study was to empirically investigate the difference in life satisfaction between people with disabilities who utilize the Internet and those who do not. The study also found out through an interaction term analysis if there were differences in their life satisfaction and digital utilization by gender, age, education level, employment status, household income, as well as personal characteristics such as disability type and degree. While the existing studies have been mainly focused on the digital divide between the non-disabled and the disabled, this study attempts to further apply the advanced concept of digital divide - digital utilization divide - within the group of people with disabilities. Based on these research findings, this study shows that the digital utilization by people with disabilities has a statistically significant effect on their quality of life, and that life satisfaction of the people with disabilities who use the Internet is affected by their education level, residence, and disability degree. Consequently, these findings indicate implications that suggest an expanded form of digital divide policies for people with disabilities through broadening perspectives on policies for closing such divide.

Influence of the Financial Preparation of the Disabled for Old Age on Their Satisfaction of Life (장애인의 경제적 노후준비가 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the present study was to identify the state of financial preparation of the disabled for their old age, and the influence factors on their quality of life. To this aim, the 4th data from the Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled were used to examine 3,396 subjects of 40 years or older. First, regarding the difference between life satisfaction according to whether or not the disabled were preparing for their old age, the preparing people had higher satisfaction in daily life. Second, the most popular way of financial preparation of the people with disabilities for old age proved the state-run public pension, and the disabled were cognitive that their preparations were not enough. Lastly, the satisfaction of the disabled in daily life who were financial preparing for the old age proved higher depending on the higher sufficiency of their preparation.

  • The purpose of this study was elderly women with disabilities to increase life satisfaction from the recognition that were original goals. Factors affecting life satisfaction confirm, and in influencing aging affects looked ready. In the case of non-disabled people was life satisfaction showed a link between preparation for the later life. Expected life satisfaction of elderly women with disabilities were equally applicable whether verification was carried out. The results of this study were as follows: First, the difference in life satisfaction according to demographic factors, psychological factors, health factors, economic factors, social factors were all of the factors in the elderly group of women with disabilities in accordance with the life satisfaction were different. Second, the factors that influence the life satisfaction for the elderly women with disabilities were psychological factors, health factors, economic factors, social factors and demographic factors. Third, in relation to independent variable and dependent variable, preparation for the later life factor was found operating as moderation variable in relations between level of economic status, chronic diseases. Based on this results, the implications for future studies on women with disabilities were discussed.

Social Support, Depression, Self-esteem Influences on Life Satisfaction of Disability in Aging (노년기 장애인 삶의 만족에 영향을 미치는 사회적 지지, 자아존중감, 우울의 구조적 관계: 노령화 장애인과 노인성 장애인의 비교)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of the elderly with disability focused on comparison between aging with disability and disability with aging in Korea. Disability in older age has been related to several psychosocial characteristics, including social support, self-esteem, life satisfaction and depression. However, the exact role of these characteristics in the disablement process remains uncertain and this study focused on comparison between aging with disability and disability with aging in Korea. This study analyzed the 12th wave (2017) KWPS(Korean Welfare Panel Study)and Disability Study which included 692 elderly with disability aged 65 and over. The data were processed by SEM and multi-group SEM analysis. The findings were as follows; First, family support and the significant others support showed direct effects on the life satisfaction of the elderly with disability. Second, family support and the significant others support reduced the level of depression and enhanced self-esteem and finally impact on the life satisfaction of the elderly with disability. The formal support enhanced the depression and reduced self-esteem and eventually reduced the life satisfaction. Third, the disability with aging group showed more higher perception and more experience of formal support and formal service and more higher depression than the aging with disability group. Forth, the significant others support on life satisfaction only showed significance in disability with aging group and depression had significance in disability with aging group. Finally, aging with disability group showed positive effects on the formal support of life satisfaction but showed negative effects on the depression and self-esteem. Based on these findings, practical implications of future directions for research are discussed.

The Effect of Job-related Accommodation Experience on Acceptance of Disability, Job Satisfaction and Life Satisfaction for Rehabilitation of Workers with Disabilities (장애인 취업자에게 제공된 직무 관련 배려경험이 장애수용과 직무만족, 삶의 만족에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of job-related accommodation experience on acceptance of disability, job satisfaction and life satisfaction of workers with disabilities. For this purpose, the panel survey of employment for the disabled(PSED) which conducted by Employment Development Institute was used to investigate the job-related accommodation experience, acceptance of disability, job satisfaction and life satisfaction of workers with disabilities who paid in workplace. Based on collected data, frequency analysis was used to examine the present state of reasonable accommodation, and one-way ANOVA was used to compare the acceptance of disability, job satisfaction and life satisfaction according to job-related accommodation experience. As a result of this study, still there are not enough accommodations or support for workers with disabilities, and duty-related accommodation and work time-related accommodation had positive effect on acceptance of disability, job satisfaction and life satisfaction.
