  • The recent government policy for environment is pursuing for a circular waste control system not only to reduce waste as much as possible but also to vigorously use the already produced waste. Copper slag has a higher fineness modulus and a greater specific gravity than natural aggregate. but when the substitutive ratio of fine aggregate is higher than 30%, material segregation occurs by bleeding. Thus, in this study, the strength and the physical properties were tested for the specimens manufactured by varying the types of admixtures, and the substitutive ratio of copper slag to suppress material segregation occurring due to the bleeding of concrete using copper slag as the substitutive material of fine aggregate and to find the adequate substitutive ratio of copper slag.

  • In this paper, the thermal properties of porous concrete containing natural fine aggregates in bottom ash aggregates were analyzed. In this study, natural fine aggregates were used for bottom ash aggregates to understand the material properties of each aggregate and then used as an aggregate for porous concrete. A porous concrete specimen was manufactured by fixing the water-binder ratio at 0.25 and designating the compaction at 0.5, 1.5, and 2.5 MPa. Unit weight, total void ratio and thermal conductivity test were measured and discussed. As the compaction increased and the mixing ratio of natural fine aggregates increased, the unit weight and thermal conductivity increased, and the total void ratio decreased. In addition, the correlations between unit weight, total void ratio and thermal conductivity of porous concrete with previous experimental data were presented and the correlation coefficient (R2) was also analyzed.

  • Many researches on alternative materials as construction materials is continuing by recycling industrial byproducts due to shortage of sitereclamation and natural aggregates. In this paper, engineering properties in early-aged OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) and GGBFS (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag) concrete are evaluated with EOS aggregate replacement. The related experiments were carried out with 0.6 of water to binder ratio, three levels of EOS replacement ratios (0%, 30% and 50%) for fine aggregate, and two levels of cement replacement with GGBFS (0% and 40%). Several tests such as slump air content, and unit mass measurement are performed for fresh concrete, and compressive strength and diffusion coefficient referred to NT BUILD 492 method are measured for hardened concrete. Through the tests, it was evaluated that the compressive strength in concrete with EOS aggregate increased to 3 days and 7 days but slightly decreased at the age of 28 days. In the accelerated chloride penetration test, GGBFS concrete showed reduced diffusion coefficients by 60 - 67% compared with OPC concrete. The lowest chloride diffusion coefficient was evaluated in the 50% replacement with EOS aggregate, which showed an applicability of EOS aggregate to concrete production.

  • An experiment of composite beam was performed which utilized glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) plank as the permanent formwork with cast-in-place high strength concrete. This research analyzed the flexural failure behavior of composite beam by setting the sand coated at GFRP bottom surface, the perforation and interval of the GFRP plank web, and the width of the top flange as the experimental variables. As a result of the experiments for effectiveness of sand attachment in case of not perforated web, approximately 43% higher ultimate load value was obtained when the sand was coated than not coated case. For effectiveness of perforation and interval of gap, approximately 23% higher maximum load value was seen when interval of the perforation gap was 3 times and the fine aggregate was not coated, and approximately 11% higher value was observed when the perforation gap was 5 times on the coated specimen. For effectiveness of top flange breadth, the ultimate load value was approximately 12% higher in case of 20mm than 40mm width.

  • This paper examines the fundamental properties of alkali-activated slag cement (AASC) activated by sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The water to binder (W/B) ratio was 0.4 and 0.5. And concentration of activator were 2M and 4M. Five mix design of each W/B ratios was considered. The N0 mixture was KS L 5109 method and N1~N4 were varied in different mixing time, mix step and entering points of fine aggregate. Test results clearly showed that the flow value, strength and drying shrinkage development of AASC were significantly dependent on the entering point of fine aggregate. The flow value tended to decreases with delaying entering point of fine aggregate. The compressive strength and flexural strength increases with delaying entering point. Moreover, the XRD analysis confirmed that there were sustain these results. The drying shrinkage increases with delaying entering point of fine aggregate. Futhermore, a modified mixing method incorporating all hereby experimentally derived parameters, is proposed to improvement the physical properties of AASC.

  • We observed the ${\gamma}-ray$ shielding characteristics and compressive strength of five types of concrete using general aggregates and high-weight aggregates. The aggregates were classified into fine aggregate and coarse aggregate according to the average size. The experimental results obtained an attenuation coefficient of $0.371cm^{-1}$ from a concrete with the oxidizing slag sand (OSS) and oxidizing slag gravel (OSG) for a ${\gamma}-ray$ of $^{137}Cs$, which is improved by 2% compared with a concrete with typical aggregates of sand and gravel. In the unit weight measurement, a concrete prepared by iron ore sand (IOS) and OSG had the highest value of $3,175kg{\cdot}m^{-3}$. Although the unit weight of the concrete with OSS and OSG was $3,052kg{\cdot}m^{-3}$, which was lower than the maximum unit weight condition by $123kg{\cdot}m^{-3}$, its attenuation coefficient was improved by $0.012cm^{-1}$. The results of chemical analysis of aggregates revealed that the magnesium content in oxidizing slag was lower than that in iron ore, while the calcium content was higher. The concrete with oxidizing slag aggregates demonstrated enhanced ${\gamma}-ray$ shielding performance due to a relatively high calcium content compared with the concrete with OSS and OSG in spite of a low unit weight. All sample concretes mixed with high-weight aggregates had higher compressive strength than the concrete with typical sand and gravel. When OSS and IOS were used, the highest compressive strength was 50.2 MPa, which was an improvement by 45% over general concrete, which was achieved after four weeks of curing.

  • The aim of this research is providing the fundamental data for treating and recycling the byproducts by using the wet processed bottom ash as a fine aggregate replacement for cement-based extruded panel. Although the cement-based extruded panel was used mainly as a cladding component with its high strength and outstanding durability, it was hardly spread because of low economic feasibility due to the high cost of additives or fibers which were used to achieve 14 MPa of flexural strength as a cladding material. As a solution of this drawback, by the previous research, it was possible to replace cement by fly ash up to 80 % by decreasing quality criteria with restricting the application to indoor purpose. In this research, based on the previous research, by using the bottom ash as a replacement of fly ash, improvement of shape retention performance is tried. As a result of the experiment on evaluating the optimum content and PSD of bottom ash, as the fineness modulus and content of bottom ash was increased, the extruding performance was decreased and penetration resistance was increased. Additionally, the optimum content and the maximum particle size was found as 20 %, and 0.3 mm, respectively.

  • This study analyzed the effects of changes in mixing factors of zero-cement mortar that only used recycled fine aggregates and fly-ash on quality of mortar, and the results are as follows. To describe the property of fresh mortar, as mix proportion and flow of mortar increased, W/B was highly selected and air content decreased. To describe compressive strength according to age as the property of hardened mortar, it was revealed that the strength did not strength until the 14 day, but strength of about 1 ~ 2 MPa strength during the 14 day through 28 day, and almost similar strength after 28 day. Also, compressive strength according to changes in mix proportion, flow and B/W was generally similar. Summarizing the above experimental results, in case of mortar that used recycled fine aggregates and fly-ash, it secured the strength for the use of landfill even though not for structural use. Especially, poor mix proved to be more useful than rich mix.
