Effect of Horticultural Therapy Program Based on Reasoner's Building Self-esteem for Juveniles (Reasoner's Building Self-esteem에 근거한 원예치료 프로그램이 청소년의 자아존중감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of horticultural therapy program based on Reasoner's building self-esteem for juveniles. Fourteen middle school students were recommended by Community education specialist (social worker). Seven experimental group members received a horticultural therapy program and 7 control group members did not during this study performed from April 2009 to July 2009. As the results, the total self-esteem level of the experimental group increased significantly after horticultural therapy (p=$0.046^*$), while control group decreased (p=0.610). In the sub-field of self-esteem, social-peer self-esteem level of the experimental group increased significantly (p=$0.018^*$), while significant difference was not detected for the control group. Therefore horticultural therapy program based on Reasoner's building self-esteem could be utilized as appropriate tools for improvement of self-esteem in juveniles in future clinical studies.

The Effect of Disability of Household Head on Life Satisfaction: Focusing on Multiple Mediating Effects of Asset and Self-Esteem (가구주의 장애여부가 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향: 자산수준과 자아존중감의 다중매개효과 검증)

  • This study aims to analyze multiple mediating effects of asset and self-esteem on the relationship between disability of household head and life satisfaction. This study used 9th panel data of KoWePS(Korean Welfare Panel Study) and employed path analysis with A-MOS. Research findings of this study are as follows: First, disability of household head had a negative effect on life satisfaction, total assets, and self-esteem. Second, we found not full but partial mediating effects of assets on the relationship between disability and life satisfaction. Third, similarly we found not full but partial mediating effects of self-esteem on the relationship between disability and life satisfaction. Finally, we found multiple partial mediating effects of assets and self-esteem on the relationships between disability and life satisfaction. The findings of this study suggest that financial education as well as asset management targeting persons with disability are necessary and very helpful to sustain their life satisfaction. In addition, we need to think about asset-building programs targeting persons with disability.

Convergence Analysis of the Factors Influencing Job-Seeking Stress in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 취업 스트레스에 미치는 융합적 영향요인)

  • The purpose of the study was to identify the factors influencing the nursing students' job-seeking stress. A cross-sectional descriptive survey, using a structured questionnaire, was used to collect data from Sep. to Oct. 2016. A sample of convenience was 246 nursing students and a questionnaire was used to measure their major satisfaction, CDMSE, self-esteem, ego-resiliency, and job-seeking stress. A significant negative correlation was found among job-seeking stress, major satisfaction, CDMSE, self-esteem, and ego-resiliency. Grade of which the participant was in, self-esteem, academic achievement, experience of clinical practice, and family economic status were significant predictive variables of which accounted for 46.1% of the variance in job-seeking stress. The results from this study can be used to develop programs for job-seeking stress management.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the family and peer relationships on adolescents' self-esteem. The subject of this study were 563 students of second grade of middle school who reside in Bucheon, Geonggi-Do and 532 self reported questionnaires were used for final analysis. The findings of this study suggested that there was no significant difference between male and female adolescents in self-esteem. Second, adolescents' self-esteem were associated with relationship with parents, parental supervision, interparental conflict, friendship quality and peer victimization. Male adolescents' self-esteem was affected by peer victimization, relationship with parents, friendship quality. Female adolescents' self-esteem was affected by relationship with parents, friendship quality and peer victimization.

  • This study investigated the associations between youths' perceived parental control, psychological/behavioral problems, and self-differentiation in a sample of 355 middle and high school students. The sex differences in these variables, and the influences of perceived parental control and self-differentiation on youths' psychological and behavioral problems were analyzed. The mediating effects of self-differentiation between parental control and youths' psychological/behavioral problems, and between psychological and behavioral problems were also investigated. Some sex differences in the variables were found. Youths' psychological and behavioral problems were influenced by self-differentiation and parental psychological control. The mediating effects of self- differentiation were significant either complete or partial way.

The relationship between self-esteem and depression among Korean adults: Examining cognitive vulnerability model and the scar model (한국 성인의 우울과 자아존중감의 종단적 상호관계에 관한 연구: 인지취약모델과 상처모델 검증을 중심으로)

  • There are two competing models explaining the causal relationship of depression and self-esteem, and they are cognitive vulnerability model and the scar model. Cognitive vulnerability model explains that low self-esteem poses as a risk factor for development of depressive symptoms/depression while the scar model asserts that the experiences of depression scars the cognitive function of individuals, resulting in negative self-perception. This study was set out to test two models on Korean adults, and to identify factors that are associated with depression and self-esteem relationship. The first four waves (wave 1~4) of the Korea Welfare Panel Study (KOWEPS) were used for analyses, and latent growth curve modeling was employed to examine the relationship. The findings show that the relationship was reciprocal, one affecting the growth trajectory of another over a four year period. Furthermore, education, poverty status, health status, and satisfaction with social relationships were found to be significantly associated with both depression and self-esteem trajectories. Implications for practice and theory are provided.

The Effect of Functional Disability on Ego Integrity and Depression among the Elderly in the Residential Care Facility (장기요양시설 노인의 기능장애와 자아통합감, 우울과의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the association of functional disability, ego integrity and depressive symptoms, and analyze the mediating effect of ego integrity among the elderly, residing in the long-term care facilities. The data were collected by using non-random purposive and convenient sampling methods and 247 elderly who reside in the nursing home care, located in Daegu city and Kyungpook provinces participated in this study. Findings of this study indicates that there are statistically significant relationships among functional disability, ego integrity and depressive symptoms of participants. In addition, the mediating effect of ego integrity on the relationship between functional disability and depressive symptoms is statistically significant and shows partial mediating effect. Based on the findings of this study, possible practice implications for improving functional and mental health of the elderly in residential care home and recommendation for further study were provided.

The Effect of Appearance Satisfaction on Self-esteem: Interpersonal Relationship Experience Mediation-Focusing on High School Students (청소년의 외모 만족이 자아존중감에 미치는 영향: 대인관계 경험 매개 효과-고등학생을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this research was to understand the relations between the satisfaction of appearance and self-esteem and to prove mediating effect of interpersonal experience in that relation. The 239 subjects were selected from 118, 121 of male and female high school students in Seongnam. The research tools were Body Esteem Scale, the Self-Esteem Inventory and Relationship Scale. The Result of study were sa follows. First, appearance satisfaction, experience of relation and self-esteem had correlations in each relation. Second, Interpersonal experience would demonstrate self-esteem, and partial mediating effect was generated in the relations between appearance satisfaction and self-esteem. Especially, partial mediating effect was male student was higher. Based on these results, it was discussed the positive effects of positive interpersonal experiences on self-esteem for adolescents with low self-esteem due to low level of physical satisfaction and the direction of youth coaching.

Path Analysis of Self-Esteem, Empathy, Depression, and Major Satisfaction in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 자아존중감, 공감, 우울과 전공만족도 간의 경로분석)

  • This study aimed to identify the impact of major variables such as self-esteem, empathy, and depression on major satisfaction among nursing students, construct a hypothesis model, and identify direct and indirect effects through path analysis. Data were collected from 200 nursing students between 2 March and 30 March, 2023 from two universities in C-Do, data were analyzed with SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 23.0. In the final model, self-esteem (𝛽=.29, p=.001), empathy (𝛽=.49, p=.001), and depression (𝛽=-.21, p=.032) had a direct effect on major satisfaction. Additionally, self-esteem (𝛽=.12, p=.031) had an indirect effect on major satisfaction through depression. The explanatory power of empathy, self-esteem, and depression for major satisfaction was confirmed to be 36%. Increasing self-esteem and empathy will not only directly increase major satisfaction, but indirectly lowering depression and increasing self-esteem will also increase major satisfaction. Therefore, when developing a nursing education program that increases nursing students satisfaction with their major, it is necessary to develop cognitive behavioral strategies that can increase self-esteem and empathy and reduce depression.

Ego-centered Topic Citation Analysis on Folksonomy Research Documents (폭소노미 연구 문헌에 대한 자아 중심 주제 인용 분석)

  • This research aims to present the ego-centered topic citation analysis, which is a new application of White's ego-centered citation analysis, for analyzing multilayered knowledge structure of a subject domain. An experimental topic citation analysis was carried out on the folksonomy research documents retrieved from Web of Science. Ego-centered topic citation analyses on folksonomy research domain were conducted in three stages: ego-documents set analysis, topic citation identity analysis, and topic citation image analysis. The results showed that the ego-centered topic citation analysis suggested in this study was successfully performed to illustrate the inner and the outer knowledge structures of folksonomy research domain.
