Characteristics of Microbial Community and Bio-hydrogen Production from Food Waste (음식물쓰레기의 생물학적 수소생산 및 미생물의 군집특성)

  • Hydrogen gas production of anaerobic fermentative process from food waste as a substrate was 3.47 mg $H_2/g$ COD. The hydrogen production was little less than the synthetic wastewater with sucrose as a substrate (7.56 mg $H_2/g$ COD). The B/A ratios of the synthetic wastewater and food waste were 3.73 or 8.01 respectively. Butyric acid was more produced when hydrogen production was higher. Microbial community in the samples was analyzed as Escherichia sp., Klebsiella sp., Clostridium sp., Bacterium sp., and Enterobacter sp. Clostridium sp. was detected both samples but Klebsiella sp. was more active with fermentation process of the food waste. Taxonomic description shows that 60% of the microorganism was ${\gamma}-proteobacteria$ and Firmicute and Bacteria was 20% respectively.

Effect of the VOD Holdback Strategy Change on IPTV and Cable TV VOD Usage (VOD 홀드백 정책 변화가 IPTV와 케이블TV VOD 이용에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the effect of changes in the content distribution strategy on VOD usage by comparing the VOD usage pattern following the changes in the IPTV and Digital Cable SVOD holdback policy. The result of this study shows that after changing the SVOD holdback from one week to three weeks, the VOD usage decreased up to 50 percent while paid VOD revenue increased as a result of the rise in PPM. The time series analysis shows statistical decrease in the number of SVOD usage, SVOD usage per user, and PPV revenue per user while VOD revenue per user increased significantly. Moreover, SVOD usage within the drama genres such as mini-series, weekend series, weekend special series, and sitcom decreased significantly. This research provides a case study on the effect of the broadcaster's content distribution policy on the VOD user behavior thus proposing broadcasters and platform operators the ways of establishing distribution strategy as well as invigorating the VOD usage.

THE EFFECT OF XYLITOL AND CARBOHYDRATES ON THE REPLICATION OF STREPTOCOCCUS ORALS AND STREPTOCOCCUS SALIVARIUS (자일리톨과 탄수화물이 Streptococcus oralis와 Streptococcus salivarius의 증식에 미치는 영향)

  • Xylitol is a 5-carbons carbohydrate, which can be replaced with sucrose for preventing caries. The effect of carbohydrates and their combinations with xylitol was studied for the replication of oral bacteria such as Streptococcus oralis and Streptococcus salivarius. The replication of Streptococcus oralis and Streptococcus salivarius was inhibited according to the increased concentration of xylitol. When Streptococcus oralis was incubated for 8 hours in the media added with lactose or sucrose, the optical density was 0.915 and 1.107, repectively. while being 0.127 and 0.104, respectively in the media combined with xylitol. When Streptococcus salivarius was incubated for 8 hours in the media added with lactose or fructose, the optical density was 1.550 and 0.420, repectively. while being 0.271 and 0.905, respectively in the media combined with xylitol. These results indicated that the replication of Streptococcus oralis and Streptococcus salivarius was changed according to kinds of carbohydrates and combined addition of xylitol.

The Effect of Addition of Egg Yolk and Sucrose on the pH and Specific Gravity for Heated Egg Albumen (난백의 가열처리에 있어서 난황과 자당 첨가가 pH 및 비중의 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was divided into experiment I(129g egg-albumen plus 150g sucrose) and experiment II(161g egg-albumen plus 150g sucrose) which were subdivided into groups treated with 0, 8.71, 17.43 and 26.149 egg yolk. These experiments were incubated in a shaking water bath(5$0^{\circ}C$) with a speed of 92(turnaround) per minute for a period of times. The pH and specific gravity were measured after 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 hour incubations. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The pH and specific gravity were steadily increased by shaking time, but variably was influenced by the amount of egg yolk and egg-albumen. 2. In the groups treated with egg-albumen, egg yolk, and sucrose of experiments I and II, pH was increased by the amount of egg-albumen in conjunction with shaking time, but specific gravity was decreased. 3. Ten hours after shaking maximum pH 8.60 was shown in the groups treated with 161g egg-albumen : however, in :he groups treated with 129g egg-albumen the maximum pH 8.39 was shown 12 hours after shaking. The different time exhibited maximum pH resulted from the amount of egg-albumen used. 4. The pH specific gravity were higher in the ,groups treated without egg yolk than in the groups with egg yolk. 5. In the experiment I which was added four levels of egg yolk to 1509 of sucrose and 129g of egg albumen, specific gravity(Table 2) had a high (r=0.9692$^{* *}$) correlation with pH (Table 1) and the regression equation between specific gravity and pH (X) was Y=0.050+0.145x. 6. In the experiment II which was added four levels of egg yolk to 150g of sucrose and 161g of egg albumen, specific gravity(Table 4) had a high (r=0.8963$^{* *}$) correlation with pH (Table 3) and the regression equation between specific gravity and pH (X) was Y=0.294+0.110X.10X.

Pain Relieving Effect of Sucrose Coating Pacifier in Neonates (신생아 통증완화를 위한 자당 코팅 노리개 젖꼭지의 적용 효과)

  • Purpose: This study is to assess and compare the analgegic effects of $25\%$ sucrose coating pacifier and pacifier. Method: The participants are 75 healthy infants of neonatal age 1-7 days and randomized to receive heel prick before 2 minutes to blood sampling and physiological test in Nursery of A Medical Center from 24. January to 28, February, 2003. The experimental group assigned to one of three treatment groups: no treatment, a pacifier, $25\%$ sucrose coating pacifier. Collected data were analyzed with the SPSS 11.0 program using $x^2$-test, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe, repeated mesured ANOVA. Results: The pain score of $25\%$ sucrose coating pacifier is lower than no treatment group and pacifier group. In heart rate, there were statistical significant differences between three groups. In repiratory rate, there were no statistical significant differences between three groups. In $SaO_2$, there were statistical significant difference between three groups. Conclusion: The $25\%$ sucrose coating pacifier showed pain relief effect in behavior responses and heart rate and $SaO_2$. Accordingly, the sucrose coating pacifier should be applied nursing intervention for simple pain management as heel prick.

A review of financial indicators in Telecommunication industry (통신업계 성과지표에 대한 고찰)

  • 통신업계의 사업자간 성과를 평가할 때 흔히 사용되는 지표가 ARPU(Average revenue per user) 이다. ARPU란 가입자당 수익으로 사업자의 총 수익을 가입자 수로 나누어 산출된다. 그러나 최근 통신 선진국 등지에서 ARPU적용의 문제점들을 제시하면서 새로운 지표인 AMPU(Average margin per user)를 사용하자는 주장이 일고 있다. AMPU란 가입자당 이익으로 사업자의 순이익을 가입자 수로 나누어 산출된 수치를 말한다. ARPU는 그 산정 메카니즘 상 변수인 수익과 가입자수에 대한 통일된 개념정립이 없으므로 사업자마다 각기 다른 회계처리를 할 수 있다. 특히 수익의 경우는 단말기 매출의 포함여부와 CP들에게 지불될 제3자수익에 대한 처리에 따라 수익수준이 달라지게 되며, 가입자수의 경우 가입자에 대한 정의가 명확하지 않기 때문에 실제 서비스를 이용하고 있지 않은 inactive가입자들의 포함여부에 따라 ARPU수치에 영향을 주게 된다. 따라서 사업자간 일률적이지 않은 회계처리에 따른 ARPU수치를 비교하는 것은 의미 없는 일이 될 수 있고 궁극적으로 이해 관계자들의 의사결정을 왜곡시킬 수 있는 요인이 된다. 따라서 수익과 비용을 모두 고려하는 개념인 AMPU의 사용은 ARPU로 인한 문제점을 해소시킬 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 보다 정확하고 비교가능한 정보를 제공하기 위해서는 통신산업의 사업자들과 이해관계자들이 AMPU지표의 공시에 협조해야 하며, 근본적으로 공시되는 수익이나 가입자수에 대한 개념의 정립이 시급할 것이다.

Pattern Classification Methods for Keystroke Identification (키스트로크 인식을 위한 패턴분류 방법)

  • Keystroke time intervals can be a discriminating feature in the verification and identification of computer users. This paper presents a comparison result obtained using several classification methods including k-NN (k-Nearest Neighbor), back-propagation neural networks, and Bayesian classification for keystroke identification. Performance of k-NN classification was best with small data samples available per user, while Bayesian classification was the most superior to others with large data samples per user. Thus, for web-based on-line identification of users, it seems to be appropriate to selectively use either k-NN or Bayesian method according to the number of keystroke samples accumulated by each user.

  • In the multimedia age, the development of Internet/Intranet circumstances makes Required Traffic per user be gradually larger. And the more demand getting many pieces of information quickly increases, the more required the rapid network is as a necessary consequence. This is why we need the advanced Ethernet. Gigabit Ethernet has many advantages in many respects. For example, it increases the capacity of network and makes network highly efficient in the existing Ethernet circumstance. Thus, Gigabit Ethernet becomes a counterproposal that can resolve Required Traffic per internet user. Present study inquires the concepts and the characteristics connected with Gigabit Ethernet Technology and analyses the Link efficiency with a hypothetical modeling.

FACTORS AFFECTING THE FORMATION OF SOLUBLE GLUCAN BY LACTOCOCCUS LACTIS 1370 (유산구균 1370의 수용성 글루캔 형성에 영향을 미치는 인자)

  • The water-soluble glucan produced by Lactococcus lactis 1370 affects the formation of dental plaque by Streptococcus mutans. In this study the factors affecting the formation of water-soluble glucan were assessed as the optical density of culture supernatant of Lactococcus lactis 1370 in the spectrophotometer. 1. The optical density of culture supernatant was high when Lactococcus lactis 1370 was cultured in M17 broth with 5% sucrose, while being low in culture supernatant of Streptococcus mutans. 2. The optical density of culture supernatant was higher when Lactococcus lactis 1370 was cultured in M17 broth with 10% sucrose than when being cultured without sucrose (p<0.05), and was higher at pH 7 than pH 5 (p<0.05). 3. The optical density of culture supernatant was the highest at $37^{\circ}C$ among $32^{\circ}C,\;37^{\circ}C\;and\;42^{\circ}C$, and was higher in the anaerobic incubator than in the aerobic incubator (p<0.05). 4. The optical density of culture supernatant was the highest in the media containing 1.0mM $CaCl_2$ (p<0.05), 2.5mM KCl (p<0.05), and 1.6mM $MgCl_2$. 5. When Streptococcus mutans was cultured in the media containing a quarter culture supernatant of Lactococcus lactis 1370 grown in M17 broth, the mean weight of produced artificial plaque was 103.0mg on the wire, whereas being significantly reduced to 5.6mg in the media containing a quarter culture supernatant of Lactococcus lactis 1370 grown in M17 broth containing 5% sucrose (p<0.05). These results indicate that the water-soluble glucan is more formed by Lactococcus lactis 1370 in the media containing sucrose or under the adequate conditions for the growth of bacteria, and inhibits the formation of artificial plaque by Streptococcus mutans.
