To analyze the aerosol dynamics in severe accidents of LMFBR, a new computer code entitled MCAD (Multicomponent Aerosol Dynamics) has been developed. The code can treat two component aerosol system using relative collision probability of each particles as sequences of accident scenarios. Coagulation and removal mechanisms incorporating Brownian diffusion and gravitational sedimentation are included in this model. In order to see the effect of particle geometry, the code makes use of the concept of density correction factor and shape factors. The code is verified using the experimental result of NSPP-300 series and compared to other code. At present, it fits the result of experiment well and agrees to the existing code. The input variables included are very uncertain. Hence, it requires uncertainty and sensitivity analysis as a supplement to code development. In this analysis, 14 variables are selected to analyze. The input variables are compounded by experimental design method and Latin hypercube sampling. Their results are applied to Response surface method to see the degree of regression. The stepwise regression method gives an insight to which variables are significant as time elapse and their reasonable ranges. Using Monte Carlo Method to the regression model of LHS, the confidence level of the results of MCAD and their variables is improved.
Carbon spheres (CS) were fabricated using glucose as a precursor in the hydrothermal method. Hollow TiO2 (H-TiO2) spheres with 200 nm, 500 nm, and 1,200 nm were synthesized by CS/TiO2 core-shell particles via a sol-gel and calcination method. H-TiO2 spheres with nano and micron sizes were characterized using FE-SEM, HR-TEM, and X-ray diffraction. The CIE color coordinate, solar reflectance, and heat shield temperatures of H-TiO2/polyacrylate (PA) composite film were investigated using a UV-Vis-NIR spectrometer and homemade heat insulation temperature measuring device. H-TiO2/PA composites exhibit excellent thermal insulation since the hollow structure filled with dry air has low thermal conductivity and near infrared light reflecting performance. The thermal insulation increased with increasing the hollow sphere (HS) size on H-TiO2/PA composites. The PA composite film mixed with H-TiO2 filled with 1200 nm HS reduced the heat shield temperature by 26 ℃ compared to that of the transparent glass counterpart.

This study confirmed the applicability to the field of geotechnical engineering for relatively complicated space and many target design variables in back analysis. The Sharan's equation and the Blum's method were used for the tunnel field and the retaining wall as a model for the multi-variate problem of geotechnical engineering. Optimization methods are generally divided into a deterministic method and a stochastic method. In this study, Simulated Annealing Method (SA) was selected as a deterministic method and Differential Evolution Algorithm (DEA) and Particle Swarm Optimization Method (PSO) were selected as stochastic methods. The three selected optimization methods were compared by applying a multi-variate model. The problem of deterministic method has been confirmed in the multi-variate back analysis of geotechnical engineering, and the superiority of DEA can be confirmed. DEA showed an average error rate of 3.12% for Sharan's solution and 2.23% for Blum's problem. The iteration number of DEA was confirmed to be smaller than the other two optimization methods. SA was confirmed to be 117.39~167.13 times higher than DEA and PSO was confirmed to be 2.43~6.91 times higher than DEA. Applying a DEA to the multi-variate back analysis of geotechnical problems can be expected to improve computational speed and accuracy.

A lateral flow immunoassay platform utilizing antibody functionalized water soluble CdSe/ZnS semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) was developed for the analysis of human serum amyloid A-1 (hSAA1) in a buffer solution. hSAA1 was chosen as a target protein because it is regarded as a potential biomarker associated with early diagnosis and prognosis in patients of lung cancer. The immunoassay strip on a nitrocellulose membrane was fabricated by spraying two lines composed of a test line with a monoclonal antibody against hSAA1 (10G1) (anti hSAA1) and a control line of anti-chicken IgY. While the CdSe/ZnS QDs synthesized in an organic phase were transferred to a water phase by ligand exchange using carboxylic acid modified alkane thiol. The QDs was then conjugated to monoclonal antibody against hSAA1 (14F8) [anti hSAA1 (14F8)] and used as a fluorescent detection probe. The sequential lateral flow of hSAA1 in different concentration and QDs-anti hSAA1 (14F8) complex allowed to form the surface sandwich complex of anti hSAA1 (10G1)/hSAA1/QD-anti hSAA1 (14F8), which was then analyzed using fluorescence microscope. A 100 nM concentration of hSAA1 protein can be detected by naked eyes under an optimized lateral flow buffer condition with a sensing time of 5 mins.

From 2017 to 2018, the disease has been monitored at four culturing eel farms in Incheon and Gyeonggi region in Korea. As a result, diseases with gill congestion frequently occurred. This disease occurred regardless of size of eel, but the frequency and cumulative mortality were high in eels within 3 months after stocking. The infected fish showed pathological histopathological features such as intense congestion and dilation in the central venous sinus (CVS) of gill filaments and hemorrhages in liver and kidney. Hexagonal viral particles measuring about 70 nm in diameter was observed in nuclei and cytoplasm of gill vascular endothelial cells. Molecular biologic diagnosis by both PCR and genetic analysis has been revealed that the causative agent of this disease is Japanese eel endothelial cells-infecting virus (JEECV), the cause of viral endothelial cell necrosis of eel (VECNE), which is mainly reported in Japan. This study is the first report on the characteristics of JEECV and VECNE infection in domestic eel farms.
Non-fluorinated water repellent coating solutions were obtained using methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and trimethylethoxysilane (TMES) as precursors. The solutions were spin-coated on a cold-rolled steel sheet and cured thermally to prepare water repellent coating films. During this process, the effect of molar ratio of TMES/MTMS was studied for the hydrophobic properties of the coating films. Hydrophobic properties of coating films were characterized using contact angle measurement, surface morphology analysis and infrared spectroscopy. When the molar ratio of TMES/MTMS was varied from 0 to 30, the contact angle of the un-coated cold-rolled steel sheet was $30^{\circ}$, whereas when the molar ratio of TMES/MTMS was 1, the contact angle increased to $104^{\circ}$ and water repellency was significantly improved. In the case of TMES/MTMS molar ratios of 10, 15, 25 and 30, the contact angles of coating films showed $109^{\circ}$, $114^{\circ}$, $117^{\circ}$ and $144^{\circ}$, respectively. At this time, the hydrophobicity of the coating films was improved by the increase of the surface roughness and the content of the methyl component at the coating surface. In particular, when the molar ratio of TMES/MTMS was 30, the overall surface roughness was greatly increased due to the presence of surface particles as well as the water repellency due to methyl groups of TMES, resulting in super hydrophobicity of $144^{\circ}$.

Physicochemical properties and sintering characteristics of pottery stone (Taebaek, Haenam, Aphae, Haengnam) were evaluated as a raw material for porcelain products. Due to acid leaching procedure, the concentration of iron oxide ($Fe_2O_3$) was decreased to < 1.0 wt%, which affects the whiteness of sintered samples. Mean particle size of acid leached samples is $5.7{\sim}10{\mu}m$ with narrow particle size distribution (PSD), which is lower than that of the pristine ($8{\sim}18{\mu}m$) with broad PSD. According to phase analysis by X-ray diffraction, most of pottery stones (PS) have Quartz phase as a main phase with Pyrophyllite as a second phase, however, Haenam PS shows halloysite phase. The absorption rate was in order of Taebaek (A, B, C)~Aphae (A, B) < Taebaek (Special A) < Haengnam < Haenam, and the samples sintered in reductive atmosphere showed lower absorption rate. This result might be due to the concentration of feldspar contained in PS, working as a flux in sintering process. Comparing the color of the sintered samples, the whiteness of refined PS (Taebaek special A, Haenam, Hangnam) is higher than acid leached PS (Taebaek A/B/C, Aphae A/B). The whiteness (L*) for refined PS is 95~97 %, which is higher than acid leached (82~96 %). This might be due to lower iron oxide concentration of the refined PS (0.11~0.58 %) than those of the acid leached PS (0.41~1.91 %) even though most of iron oxide was removed by acid leaching.

Fabrication of monolayer is important method for enhancing physical and chemical characteristics such as light shielding and antireflection while maintaining thin film properties. In previous studies, monolayers were fabricated by various methods on small substrates, but processes were complicated and difficult to form monolayers with large area. We used rod coating equipment with a small amount of coating liquid to form a HCP (hexagonal closed packing) coating of PMMA beads on PET(poly(ethylene terephthalate)) substrate with $20cm{\times}20cm$ size. We observed that changes in morphologies of monolayers by using the solvents with different boiling points and vapor pressures, by adapting surfactants on particles and by applying plasma treatment on substrates. The coverage was increased by 20% by optimizing the coating conditions including meniscus of beads, control of the attraction - repulsion forces and surface energy. This result can potentially be applied to optical films and sensors because it is possible to make a uniform and large-scale monolayer in a simple and rapid manner when it is compared to the methods in previous studies.

The accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) resulted in the deposition of large quantities of radionuclides over parts of eastern Japan. Radioactive contaminants have been observed over a large area including forests, cities, rivers and lakes. Due to the strong adsorption of radioactive cesium by soil particles, radioactive cesium migrates with the eroded soil, follows the surface flow paths, and is delivered downstream of population-rich regions and eventually to coastal areas. In this study, we developed a model to simulate the transport of contaminated sediment in a watershed hydrological system and this model was compared with observation data from eroded soil observation instruments located at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. Two methods were applied to analyze the soil particle size distribution of the collected soil samples, including standardized sieve analysis and image analysis methods. Numerical models were developed to simulate the movement of soil along with actual rainfall considering initial saturation, rainfall infiltration, multilayer and rain splash. In the 2019 study, a numerical model will be used to add rainfall shield effect by trees, evaporation effect and shield effects of surface water. An eroded soil observation instrument has been installed near the Wolsong nuclear power plant since 2018 and observation data are being continuously collected. Based on these observations data, we will develop the numerical model to analyze long-term behavior of radionuclides on land as they move from land to rivers, lakes and coastal areas.

Relatively fine silicon carbide (SiC) crystalline aggregates have been synthesized with the carbonized rice husks, paper sludge, coffee grounds as the carbon sources and the silica powder. The main reaction source to obtain silicon carbide (SiC) aggregates from the mixture of carbon sources and silica was inferred as the gaseous silicon monoxide (SiO) phase, being created from this mixture through the carbothermal reduction reaction. The silicon carbide (SiC) crystalline aggregates, fabricated from the carbonized rice husks and paper sludge, coffee grounds and silica ($SiO_2$) powder, were investigated by XRD patterns, FE-SEM and FE-TEM images. In these specimens, obtained from the carbonized rice husks, paper sludge and silica, XRD patterns showed rather high strong peak of (111) plane near $35^{\circ}$. The FE-TEM images and patterns of specimens, synthesized from carbonized rice husks, paper sludge, coffee grounds and silica under Ar atmosphere, showed relatively fine particles under $1{\mu}m$ and crystalline peak (110) of silicon carbide (SiC) diffraction pattern.
