A Parametric Study on the Sorption of U(VI) onto Granite (U(VI)의 화강암 수착에 대한 매개변수적 연구)

  • An experimental study on the sorption of U(VI) onto a Korean granite was performed as a function of the geochemical parameters such as contact time, pH, ionic strength, and carbonate concentration using a batch procedure. The distribution coefficient,$K_d$, was about 1-200 mL/g depending on the experimental conditions. The sorption of U(VI) onto granite particles was greatly dependent upon the contact time, pH, and carbonate concentration, but insignificantly dependent on the ionic strength. It was noticed that the sorption of U(VI) onto granite particles was highly correlated with the uranium speciation in the solution, which was dependent on the pH and carbonate concentrations. It was deduced from the kinetic sorption experiment that a two-step first-order kinetic behavior could dominate the kinetic sorption of U(VI) onto granite particles. In the alkaline range of a pH above 7, U(VI) sorption was greatly decreased and this might be due to the formation of anionic U(VI)-carbonate aqueous complexes as predicted by the speciation calculations.

  • Quantifying the settling velocities of fine-cohesive sediments is very essential in the study of ocean pollutions as well as sedimentations. Settling properties of fine-cohesive sediments are influenced largely by aggregation which occurs as a consequence of interparticle collision and cohesion of particles. Since the degree of cohesion of fine-cohesive sediments depends on physico-chemical properties such as grain size distribution, percentage of organic materials, and mineralogical compositions, and these physico-chemical properties varies regionally, the settling velocities of fine-cohesive sediments for a specific site should be determined through field or laboratory experiment. Recently, settling velocities of fine-cohesive sediments in Saemankeum coasts and Kunsan Estuary have been measured through laboratory experiments. Using these data, the previously proposed well-known settling velocity equations for fine-cohesive sediments are examined and a new equation is developed for better representation of the measured data in this study. The newly developed settling velocity equation is simpler in the form and easier in determining the related coefficients than the previous well-known equations.

Effect of Inorganic Particles on Organic Fouling in Pressurized Membrane Filtration (가압식 분리막 여과에서 무기입자의 존재가 유기파울링에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, effect of inorganic particles on organic fouling was investigated by a laboratory-scaled pressurized membrane filtration. In order to cause organic fouling, sodium alginate (SA) was used as a feed solution. Regardless of the presence of inorganic SiO2 particles, the complete pore blocking played an important role in determining the fouling rate during the initial period of membrane filtration. However, the formation of cake layer resulted in the membrane fouling more dominantly as filtration time progressed. In the presence of inorganic particles, both specific cake resistance and compressibility associated with the membrane fouling formed were relatively lower than that without SiO2 particles. Membrane fouling was more severe at constant flux mode of filtration than that observed at constant pressure mode probably due to the concomitant increase of compressibility of fouling layer with transmembrane pressure (TMP). It was found that the presence of SA and SiO2 particles in feed solution provided the synergistic effect on the hydraulic backwashing to reduce membrane fouling as compared to the SA solution alone without the inorganic particles.

  • A method is presented which enables the computation of the bed-load transport rate as the product of particle velocity and bed-load Concentration. In this study, it is assumed that particle velocity is proportinal to the flow velocity near the particle and the apperance frequency of the component of the fluctuating velocity of turbulent flow close to bed is normally distributed, and the particle velocity is expressed by mean flow velocity near the particle and the function of bed shear stress. Engelund formula, which is checked indirectly to be proper to use in this study, is employed to estimate the effective shear velocity. And the dffective bed shear stress acting on particle is obtained by that shear velocity. Ashida-Michiue's formula is used to get the concentration of bed-load. Experimental data for bed-load is compared with the results of other studies and the transport fornula suggested in this paper gives results which are in good accordance with other's experimental data excepting the results obtained the case of comparatively small bed shear stress.

  • Characteristics of solid circulation rate in the liquid-solid circulating fluidized beds with viscous liquid medium were investigated. Effects of primary and secondary liquid velocities, particle size, liquid viscosity and height of solid particles piled up in the solid recycle device on the solid circulation rate were considered. The solid circulation rate increased with increasing primary and secondary liquid velocities, liquid viscosity and height of solid particles in the downcommer, but it decreased with increasing particle size. The particle rising velocity in the riser decreased with increasing the ratio of $U_{L1}/U_{L2}$ and particle size. The slip velocity of liquid and particle, $U_L/U_S$, decreased with increasing liquid viscosity but it increased with increasing particle size. The values of solid circulation rate were well correlated in terms of operating variables and dimensionless groups.

  • 본 연구에서는 유류 오염토양 복원을 위한 효율적인 이동형 연속식 토양세척 장비를 개발하여 현장 적용 가능성을 검토하였다. 진세척조는 내부에 스크류를 설치함으로써 주입되는 오염토양과 세척용액의 기계적 교반에 의한 원활한 접촉과 토양간의 마찰 등으로 인하여 토양으로부터 오염물질의 탈착이 효과적으로 이루어지도록 하였다. 전세척조 외부에 위치한 주세척조는 전세척조에서 탈착된 오염물질과 미세입자를 원 토양으로부터 효율적으로 분리하기 위한 헹굼작용과 배출부에서 미세입자를 포함하는 세척 유출수가 효율적으로 분리 배출이 될 수 있도록 설계.제작하였다. 현장 적용 실험결과, 설계 목표치인 토양 주입 속도 15m$^3$/day, 계면활성제 POE$_{5}$POE$_{14}$의 비 1:1 (농도 0.1%), 세척수/토양 비 (부피/중량비) 1, 전세척조 회전속도 18rpm. 주세척조 회전속도 5rpm의 운전조건에서 90% 이상의 높은 세척효율을 나타내었다.

LDV Measurement of Turbulent Flow Inside the Cylinder in an Engine (엔진 실린더내 유동 LDV측정)

  • 왕복식엔진에서 연소과정은 실린더내 유체유동에 지배되므로 최적조건의 엔진설계를 위해서는 실린더내 유체유동을 효과적으로 이용하는 것이 필요하다. 연소과정에 중요한 영향을 미치는 압축말기 연소실내 난류강도는 흡입과정시 생성된 유동의 에너지가 압축과정을 거치면서 작은 스케일의 에디(eddy)로 깨지면서 발생된다. 연소과정시 이러한 에디들은 초기화염생성을 촉진 시키고 화염전파속도를 증진시키는 역할을 함으로써 실린더내 유체유동에 대한 이해증진을위해 실린더내 평균속도 및 난류유동을 측정하는 연구들이 많이 진행되고 있다. 엔진유동은 매사이 클의 유동이 엄밀히 주기적인 운동을 하지 않고, 각 사이클의 유동이 비정상유동을 하며, 유동의 생성 및 소멸이 매우 짧은 특성을 가진다. 따라서 산란입자가 측정체적을 통과할 때 속도데이 터가 발생하는 LDV(laser Doppler velocimetry) 측정에 있어서 레이저빔의 산란광노이즈 감소와 산란입자의 효율적인 공급으로 데이터 발생률을 높이는 것이 어려운 점이다. 이 글에서는 엔진 유동의 LDV측정시 고려해야 할 문제점들, 실험장치구성, 그리고 데이터처리 방법과 주요측정 결과에 대해 본 연구팀에서 지금까지 수행한 연구결과를 토대로 하여 기술하고자 한다.

Removal of Cs and Sr Ions by Absorbent Immobilized Zeolite with PVA (제올라이트를 PVA로 고정화한 흡착제에 의한 Cs과 Sr 이온 제거)

  • In this research a adsorbent, PVA-Zeolite bead, was prepared by immobilizing zeolite with PVA. The results of XRD and SEM analysis showed that the prepared PVA-Zeolite beads had porous structure and the zeolite particles were in mobilized within the internal matrix of the beads. The adsorption properties of Sr ion and Cs ion with the adsorbent were studied by different parameters such as effect of pH, adsorption rate, and adsorption isotherm. The adsorption of Sr ion and Cs ion reached equilibrium after 540 minutes. The adsorption kinetics of both ions by the PVA-Zeolite beads were fitted well by the pseudo-second-order model more than pseudo-first-order model. The equilibrium data fitted well with Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacities of Sr ion and Cs ion calculated from Langmuir isotherm model were 52.08 mg/g and 58.14 mg/g, respectively. The external mass transfer step was very fast compared to the intra-particle diffusion step in the adsorption process of Cs ion and Sr ion by the PVA-Zeolite beads. This result implied that the rate controlling step was the intra-particle diffusion step.

Particle Size Measurements Using Phase Doppler Technique (위상도플러법에 의한 입자의 크기측정)

  • 레이저광이 가지는 지향성, 단색성, 공간적 집속성 등의 성질을 이용하는 각종 측정장치는 광섬 유의 발달과 새로운 신호처리계의 개발로 그 적용 범위가 점점 확대되고 있다. 레이저 도플러 신호의 위상차를 이용하여 운동상태의 입자의 크기와 속도를 동시에 측정할 수 있는 측정장치가 80년대에 실용화되어 캐비테이션, 분무노즐, 기름버너, 엔진연소 등 많은 분야에서 다양하게 사 용되고 있다. 이 측정방법은 Durst와 Zare에 의해 도플러 신호의 위상과 입자의 크기는 선형적인 함수 관계가 있음이 밝혀진 이래, Bachalo, Buchhave, Knuhfsen과 Olldag 등에 의해 급속히 발 전되었다. 현재 국내에도 덴마크의 단텍사, 미국의 에어로메트릭스사 등에서 개발한 장비가 3-4 기관에서 사용되고 있다. 이 글에서는 위상도플러법에 의한 입자의 크기측정에 관한 기초 이론을 참고문헌을 인용하여 설명하고, 단텍사에서 개발한 위상도플러 측정장치인 입자운동 해석장치 (PDA)를 사용하여 본 연구실에서 실험한 버너용 압력분사식 노즐에서 분사된 액적들의 국소부분 거동에 대해 소개하기로 한다.

A Review on Size, Shape and Velocity of a Bubble Rising in Liquid (총설: 액체 중에서 상승하는 기포의 크기, 형상 및 속도)

  • Accurate prediction of size, shape and velocity of a bubble rising through a liquid pool is very important for predicting the particulate removal efficiency in pool scrubbing, for designing engineering safety features to prepare for severe accidents in nuclear power plants, and for predicting the emission of fission products from MCCI (molten core-concrete interaction) process during severe accidents. In this review article, previous studies on the determination of the size, shape and rising velocity of a bubble in liquid are reviewed. Various theoretical and parameterization formulas calculating the bubble size, shape and velocity from physical properties of liquid and gas flowrate are compared. Recent studies tend to suggest simple parameterizations that can easily determine the bubble shape and rising velocity without iteration, whereas iteration has to be performed to determine the bubble shape and velocity in old theories. The recent parameterizations show good agreement with measured data obtained from experiments conducted using different liquid materials with very diverse physical properties, proving themselves to be very useful tools for researchers in related fields.
