Objective : Active treatment for a skin condition has produced a substantial change in the history of allergic contact or wound induced dermatitis. The frequency of opportunistic contacts and allergen-related dermatitis has increased, though new skin treatments have developed. Especially, there has been a interest in the korean herbal bathing. This study was performed to investigate the effects of the korean herbal bathing candidates on skin lesions in mice model. These candidates are Korea's representative herbs on skin lesions. Method : ICR mice were divided into five groups : naive, control, experimental group A and B and C. Control and experimental groups induced skin lesions by DNFB and TMA. Each experimental group was pasted with corresponding korean herbal bathing candidates on skin lesions. Result : Significant improvements in skin wound index, epidermal thickness associated with skin lesions were seen with the korean herbal bathing candidates. Conclusion : These results suggest that the korean herbal bathing candidates could be at least as effective as steroid, anti-histamine for the treatment of skin lesions.

In now, people are interested in the korean herbal bathing that get better the skin conditions. This study was performed to investigate the effect of korean herbal bathing candidates extract on allergic contact or wound induced dermatitis. ICR mice were divided into four groups: naive, control, experimental group A and B. Control and experimental groups induced allergic contact or wound induced dermatitis by DNFB and TMA. Since then, each experimental group was pasted with corresponding korean herbal bathing extract into the skin. All groups were observed after 5 days. When the korean herbal bathing extract was applied, arbitrary skin wound index and epidermal thickness were significantly decreased compared to that of control. These data suggest that these korean herbal bathing candidates may be an effective therapeutic supplements for the treatment of skin.
Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of korean herbal bathing extracts composition 1 and composition 2 on Th2 cytokine production in MC/9 mast cells. Methods The effects of composition 1, 2 was analyzed by ELISA and Real-time PCR in MC/9 mast cells. Levels of IL-5, IL-13 were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISA). mRNA levels of IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-13 were analyzed with Real-time PCR. Results Composition 1, 2 inhibited the IL-5, IL-13 production significantly(p<.001) in comparison to PI-control group at concentration of 100 ${\mu}g/mL$, 200 ${\mu}g/mL$. Composition 1, 2 inhibited the IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 mRNA expression significantly in comparison to PI-control group at concentration of 100 ${\mu}g/mL$, 200 ${\mu}g/mL$. Composition 1 inhibited the IL-6 mRNA expression significantly in comparison to PI-control group at concentration of 200 ${\mu}g/ml$. Composition 2 inhibited the IL-6 mRNA expression significantly in comparison to PI-control group at concentration of 100 ${\mu}g/mL$, 200 ${\mu}g/mL$. Conclusions These results indicate that composition 1, 2 has the effect of decreasing the Th2 cytokine production in the MC/9 mast cell.
Silk sericin protein was extracted by treatment with enzyme or NaOH solution from raw silk and culled-cocoon shell. The extracted sericin was characterized and examined the functional properties as well as subjective properties for its use as a soap and a body cleaner. The optimum extraction conditions on specimen are NaOH (0.02 wt.%) or enzyme, Flavourzyme 3% under N2 gas. Molecular weights of sericin was decreased by treatment with enzyme, Actinase, from 10,000-30,000 to 2,700-4,200. Sericin showed important bioactive properties, for instance, lowering effect on blood glucose and alcohol. Subjective test of sericin soap and body cleaner showed superior in washability, foamability, and skin hydration, etc., to commercial soap and body cleaner. Therefore, it is thought that silk sericin can be expected as the source of bioactive and skin-compatible materials.

In the twenty first century, people experience a lot of stresses by psychological, social and environmental impetus. If the stress is excessive, it can become a problem and finally lead to diseases. Foot bath makes the body warm starting with the feet, controls the blood circulations and autonomic nervous systems. This study aims at examining the effects of stress and fatigue of senior students preparing for college entrance examination by foot bath with the aroma essential oil and the fermentation extracts. The experimental period was from March 30 to April 18, 2009. The study objects were 21 senior students of C Girls' High School in Cheonan. They were divided into 3 groups and treated 20 times. The first group was a foot bath group with Artemisia Herbal fermentation extracts. The second group was a foot bath group with the blending aroma essential oil of grapefruit, cypress and cedarwood. The third group was not treated. In the case of difference of physical and psychological stress, there was a reduction of 18.43 and 16.71 for the fermented extract group and 10.71 and 9.43 for the aroma group, while a reduction of 0.43 and 0.29 for the control group, respectively. This shows that foot baths using fermented extracts and aroma had lower physical stress compared to the control group (p<.01). For the difference of fatigue, there was a reduction of 19.14 for the fermented extract group, 11.57 for the aroma group and 0.07 for the control group, showing that foot baths accompanied by fermented extracts and aroma used in this study having lower fatigue compared to the control group (p<.01). The fermented extract group (M=55.71) had the highest level of satisfaction after foot baths, followed by the aroma group (M=49.14) and the control group (M=33.29). Duncan's post hoc test showed that there was a statistically considerable difference between the tests groups and control groups (p<.01). Through the results of this study, it was found that foot baths using bathing supplements were very effective for reducing stress and fatigue.

The purpose of this study is to develop bathing aids as a strategic products to promote the medical tourism in Sancheong Jirisan Oriental medicinal herbs special district using medicinal herbs produced in Sancheong province, and to verify the effect of the bathing aids in vitro. We investigated the cytotoxicity activity, antioxidant activity, antiaging and whitening effects of Sanchung-PNU 1 (SP1) and Sanchung-PNU 2 (SP2) made with traditional medicinal herbs. The cytotoxicity activity was measured by MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay. Antioxidant activities were determined by DPPH (1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging capacity assay. We measured the inhibitory effect against tyrosinase activity to prove the whitening effect, and the inhibitory effect against elastase activity to prove the anti-aging effect. Two proposed prescriptions, SP1 and SP2, showed not significant cytotoxicity but significant (p<0.001) improvement in anti-oxidation, anti-wrinkle, and whitening effects compared to the control group. The result shows that these bathing aids have excellent DPPH radical scavenging effect and significant inhibitory effect against elastase and tyrosinase activity. These findings suggest that these bathing aids have a strong antioxidant, anti-aging, and whitening effect.
