Theoretical Considerations on Analytical Framework Design for the Interactions between Participants in Group Argumentation on Socio-Scientific Issues (사회 속 과학 쟁점에 대한 소집단 논변 상호작용 분석을 위한 방법론 고찰)

  • This study aims to design a framework for analyzing group argumentation in terms of participants' interaction. Regarding the current group argumentation setting as argumentation on socio-scientific issues within participants who have had limited experience on group argumentation, the analytical framework was designed to explain (1) what was each participant's role on group argumentation, (2) how these roles were changed within each time of argumentation, and (3) how the patterns of interaction were changed through seven times of a series of argumentation on socio-scientific issues. Based on the literature review on analytical framework of argumentation in science education including the works on the structure of argumentation, the discourse formation through interaction, and the linguistic approach on participants' interaction, the current research framework was built. Showing the results of applying the designed framework on group argumentation as an example, strength of using the current designed framework was discussed.

Rethinking Knowledge Base of Social Work Practice (사회복지 실천의 지식기반과 학문적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • As one of the essential elements of social work practice, knowledge articulates what the social work profession is doing and ought to do. With an emphasis on building a body of knowledge for the profession, this study analyses the nature of social work knowledge. First, the study examines concepts of social work theories and models, which are built around separate clusters of concepts from a broad base of theoretical orientation. The study reviews epistemological and ideological debates over how to perceive and approach social issues and the role of the social work profession. In organizing a clear conceptual framework for social work practice, different frames of reference and selective and fragmentary knowledge from other disciplines are considered barriers. For the development of a clear identity as a unified profession and the prospects of a value-based profession, more attention needs to be given to specify practical knowledge that is contextual and appropriate to practice settings and more sensitive to social issues.

Methodological Review of the Research on Argumentative Discourse Focused on Analyzing Collaborative Construction and Epistemic Enactments of Argumentation (논증 담화 분석 연구의 방법론적 고찰: 논증활동의 협력적 구성과 인식적 실행의 분석을 중심으로)

  • This study undertook a methodological investigation on previous research that had proposed alternative methods for analyzing argumentative discourse in science classes in terms of collaborative construction and epistemic enactments of argumentation. The study also proposed a new way of analyzing argumentation discourse based on the achievements and limitations of previous research. The new method was applied to actual argumentation discourse episodes to examine its feasibility. For these purposes, we chose the studies employing Toulmin's argument layout, seeking for a method to analyze comprehensively the structure, content, and justification of arguments, or emphasizing evidence-based reasoning processes of argumentation discourse. In addition, we contrived an alternative method of analyzing argumentative discourse, Discourse Register on the Evidence-Explanation Continuum (DREEC), and applied DREEC to an argumentative discourse episode that occurred in an actual science classroom. The advanced methods of analyzing argumentative discourse used in previous research usually examined argument structure by the presence and absence of the elements of Toulmin's argument layout or its extension. Those methods, however, had some problems in describing and comparing the quality of argumentation based on the justification and epistemic enactments of the arguments, while they could analyze and compare argumentative discourse quantitatively. Also, those methods had limitations on showing participants' collaborative construction during the argumentative discourse. In contrast, DREEC could describe collaborative construction through the relationships between THEMEs and RHEMEs and the links of data, evidence, pattern, and explanation in the discourse, as well as the justification of arguments based on the flow of epistemic enactments of the argumentative discourse.

A Study on the Construction of Mathematical Knowledge (수학적 지식의 구성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to uncover weaknesses in the constructivism in mathematics education and to search for ways to complement these deficiencies. We contemplate the relationship between the capability of construction and the performance of it, with the view of the 'Twofold-Structure of Mind.' From this, it is claimed that the construction of mathematical knowledge should be to experience and reveal the upper layer of Mind, the Reality. Based on the examination on the conflict and relation between the structuralism and the constructivism, with reference to the 'theory of principle' and the 'theory of material force' in Neo-Confucianist theory, it is asserted that the construction of mathematical knowledge must be the construction of the structure of mathematical knowledge. To comprehend the processes involved in the construction of the structure of mathematical knowledge, the epistemology of Michael Polanyi is studied. And also, the theory of mathematization, the historico-genetic principle, and the theory on the levels of mathematical thinking are reinterpreted. Finally, on the basis of the theory of twofold-structure, the roles and attitudes of teachers and students are discussed.

Qualitative Research: The Theory to the Practice in Adapted Physical Education (특수체육에서 질적 연구의 이론적 배경과 연구 질의 평가)

  • The purposes of this paper were to provide the basic segments of qualitative research to assist the understanding of qualitative research and to provide implications of indicators (i.e., criteria) to determine the rigor of the qualitative research in the area of Adapted Physical Education (APE). This paper was divided into five sub-categories to facilitate understanding the qualitative research, which were (a) the epistemological stances, (b) the data collection methods (c) the data analysis (d) the trustworthiness and (e) the implications of Adapted Physical Activity Taxonomy (APAT) in APE. Qualitative researchers deliver their understanding of human experience and knowledge by means of text rather than number so their explanations and understanding tend be subjective and distinct from otherwise interpretaotherwise (Crotty, 1998; Pitney& Parker, 2009). Examining the rigor of qualitative research is therefore concerned due to the complexity of understanding of reality (Goodwin 2020; Zitomer & Goodwin, 2014). In the meantime the roles of qualitative research have been highlighted in educational research including the area of APE because qualitative research enables researchers to examine different voices of school members (e.g., students with and without disabilities parents teachers Goodwin, 2020; Hodge et al., 2019; Zitomer & Goodwin, 2014).

The Vitalization of Older Adult Education and Rawl's Justice Theory (노년교육 활성화를 위한 정의론적 탐색: J. Rawls의 정의론을 중심으로)

  • Based on Rawl's Justice Theory, the author examines the rationales for educating older adults and advocates for their needs for just distributions of educational resources and opportunities. The author also seeks policy implications for establishing just educational systems for older citizens. On the basis of Rawl's Justice Theory, the essential principles for realizing social justice are presented. The author points out the Veil of Ignorance and Rational Indifference. As the practical methods for achieving social justice, the author presents Exclusion of Coincidence, Difference Principle, Democratic Equality, and Common Asset. Implications for establishing just education systems for older adults include: 1) The least advantaged groups such as older adults, females, and the disabled should not be discriminated in the distribution of educational resources; 2) People with higher capacities are obliged to serve less capable people; and 3) Older adults should mobilize all resources to empower themselves and to develop their potentials. The author concludes that Rawl's Justice Theory can be tapped into as a useful ideological framework in order to expand educational resources and opportunities for older adults.

A Phenomenological Interpretation on the Principle of 'Coincidentia Oppositorum' of Daesoon Thought (대순사상의 대대성 원리에 대한 현상학적 해석)

  • In pluralistic political realities that have been exposed as antagonistic relationships between self and others, the principle of 'Coincidentia Oppositorum' in Daesoon Thought emphasizes the complementarity between self and others and presents us with a new form of cognition and attitude which can overcome pluralistic political realities. Though solipsism that objectificates others on the basis of the self, the principle of 'Coincidentia Oppositorum' presents us a new form of cognition and attitude with which we can approach others. The principle of 'Coincidentia Oppositorum' is based on the logic that we can secure and extend ourselves only in relation between self and others. Self is not fully formed or perfected without others. Previous discussions on the principle of 'Coincidentia Oppositorum' as it is exists within Daesoon Thought have been limited to Eastern Philosophy. On one hand, this inclination may be due to a narrow understanding of Western Philosophy. The flow of Modern Western Philosophy can at times be a self-reflective output for solipsism. On the other hand, the understanding of the principle of 'Coincidentia Oppositorum in context of a dualistic contrast between Eastern Philosophy and Western Philosophy is not concordant with the principle of 'Coincidentia Oppositorum' which emphasizes the creation of harmony between self and others. This paper aims to investigate avenues to create harmony between Eastern Philosophy and Western Philosophy regarding the principle of 'Coincidentia Oppositorum' in Daesoon Thought. Specifically, attention will be paid to 'flesh' as used by Merleau-Ponty. In his writings, flesh is the matrix which activates the fundamental involvement between self and others. Self is a being of flesh and an ambiguous being which is formed in a double position (seeing and being seen). Flesh can secure and extend the self only through its relationship to an other or multiple others. Restoring the other that has been excluded from modern Western Philosophy, Merleau-Ponty's flesh call for contemplation into the meaning of the other and of otherness.

Human Goal in Advaita Vedānta (아드와이따 베단따와 인간의 목표)

  • In (Advaita) $Ved{\bar{a}}nta$ although human beings are destined to have a pessimistic starting point in life, their goal of life is to become a Perfect Being which is called 'Liberation' (mokṣa) by self-transcendence. This human goal together with several means are accepted by $Ved{\bar{a}}nta$ as solely valuable thing in the life. In this way there must be a self-recognition of his own value in the process of Liberation, through which one recognizes his own true nature i.e. ${\bar{A}}tman$. ${\bar{A}}tman$ is clearly defined to be 'Existence, Consciousness, Bliss' (Being, Illumination, Good), and this definition is made with the view of revealing that It is ultimate foundation and source of human beings ontologically, epistemologically and axiologically. However, as $Ved{\bar{a}}ntic$points of view on human goal are not without critical limitations, it may be necessary to revaluate 'the process of self-inquiry' devised to achieve human goal. Inquiry is, first of all, an accepting process of what is given in $Ved{\bar{a}}nta$ as the scenario that gives rise to most actual result, then, a performing and verifying process of that scenario in one's own experience consistently. In this process, a shift of action from worldly life to unworldly life is what is called 'self-adjustment', a removal of 'the self in excess' through knowledge of the real Self is what is called 'simplification of the self', and at the end of simplification a state of ultimate Self is 'Liberation'. Therefore, the inquiry of $Ved{\bar{a}}nta$ into human goal can be summarized as following formula; 'good action = self-adjustment' ${\rightarrow}$ 'good knowledge = simplification of the self' ${\rightarrow}$ 'Liberation = ultimate Self'.

Detection of Syntactic and Semantic Anomaly in Korean Sentences: an ERP study (언어이해과정에서의 구문/의미요소 분리에 대한 ERP특성연구)

  • 본고는 텍스트로 제시된 한국어 문장의 형태통사론적 오류와 의미적 논항결합시 하위범주화요건을 위배하는 논항선택 오류의 인식 및 판단에 따른 ERP(Event-Related Potential)를 검출하여, 이에 대한 문장이해과정의 시간추이적 양상을 연구의 대상으로 하였다. 참여한 피험자로부터 각각의 유형에 대한 통계분석 결과, 통사적 오류 추출에서 의미적 오류 추출에 이르기까지 기존의 연구에서 제시된 오류패턴 요소들(ELAN, N400, P600)을 확인하였으며, 아울러 한국어 문장이해과정의 특이성을 관찰할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 문장묵독시 일어나는 여러 종류의 문법오류에 대한 개별적 성격규명과 함께, 이들의 문법틀 내에서의 상호관계에 대한 일련의 가설설정이 이루어질 수 있으며, 또한 문장이해 메커니즘의 신경적 기전의 특성 규명으로 부수될 인간지능 모사가능성에 생리학적 토대가 더해 질 것으로 추정되는 바, 언어이해와 대뇌기전지형을 결정짓는 또 다른 규준이 될 것이다.

한국사회 이념측정의 재구성

  • 한국사회 이념갈등을 다룬 대부분의 연구들은 이념갈등의 본질은 대북문제에 있으며, 이를 제외한 다른 정치사회적 이슈들에 대해서는 진보와 보수 간의 유의미한 차이가 없다고 밝히고 있다. 그러나 우리사회 현실을 볼 때 진보와 보수세력은 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화 등의 대부분의 이슈에 이해 첨예한 대립 관계를 형성하고 있다. 본 연구는 이에 대한 해답을 찾고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 이념측정의 방법과 분석틀에 있어 새로운 방법론을 제시한다. 우선 본 연구에서는 자기평가적 주관적 이념성향 대신 인간의 본성과 도덕성에 대한 태도, 사회개혁과 사회권위에 대한 입장 등으로 구성된 이념성향을 측정하였다. 또한 정책에 대한 입장이 개인의 이념성향을 결정하는 것이 아니라, 이념성향이 먼저 결정되며, 거기에 따라 정책에 대한 개인의 인식이나 입장이 나타나는 것이 논리적으로 타당하다고 본다.
