Second, significant positive affecting factors on suicidal ideation were maladjustment perfectionism, interpersonal stress, boys, emotion-oriented coping type, whereas, negative factors were self-esteem. Among the significant affecting factors, self-esteem had the greatest influence. These results suggest that measures improving college life satisfaction and education and training programs for improving human relation skills and stress-coping types, mitigating maladjustment perfectionism, and enhancing self-esteem should be explored and executed properly.

  • Interpretive sign is a communication medium that is often used in self-guided interpretation. Understanding interpretive signs and their users is important to maximize the effectiveness of interpretation. This study evaluated design attributes of interpretive signs by visitor's personal characteristics and visiting patterns using Importance-Performance Analysis(IPA). Data were collected from August to September of 2003 at the self-guided trail in Naejangsan National Park, Korea. Visitors using the trail participated in a questionnaire survey, and a total of 276 subiects was used for data analysis. The IPA results showed that female(23.3%) than male(13.3%), low age group(43.3%) than middle(0.0%) and high age group(0.0%), higher education group(36.7%) than lower education group(0.0%), medium size group(33.3%) than large(10.0%) or small group(16.7%), 'with child' group(66.7%) than 'without child' group(20.0%) rated higher importance and lower performance on more design attributes of the interpretive signs. These groups also showed higher rate of 'Concentrate Here(CH)' attributes that require urgent improvement. The 'with child' group showed the especially high rate of 'CH' attributes. The results suggest that interpretive signs need to be designed considering diverse user groups. It is also necessary to develop some standardized items of the sign design attributes for more efficient and reliable implementation of IPA and other evaluative works.

  • Governments and related agencies have made efforts to introduce tree burials (TB) as an alternative to solve the problems involved in the traditional funeral manners. Citizens' TB selection rates are, however, still very low. It is important to understand citizens' perceptions and attitudes towards TB to make people more actively participate in TB. This study examined citizens' knowledge, behavioral belief, attitudes towards selecting TB, intentions to select TB, and their relationship with citizens' socio-demographic characteristics. A total of 320 citizens in Gwang-ju, Korea, completed the survey during May, 2011. Results showed that 65.3% of respondents were aware of TB, and many of them (47.6%) obtained information from TV/Radio. Age, education level, marital status and birth order were related with knowledge about TB. Respondents with higher age or higher education level tended to have higher knowledge rates. The married or the non-eldest sons also had higher knowledge rates. Respondents with higher age or higher education level, and the married tended to have more positive attitudes towards selecting TB and to rate 'unconventional funeral customs' high. Respondents with higher age, education level or married respondents tended to have higher intention to select TB. The knowledge level about TB was positively related with attitudes about TB selection and intention to select TB. The results were discussed and some ways to promote TB were suggested.

  • This study looks into the usage pattern in online games based on genres and socio-demographic characteristics. Compared to the prior studies that adopted survey as their main research method, this study has analyzed the actual data of game login records and adopted parametric modeling and mathematical approach. In terms of the socio-demographic characteristics, the following facts were confirmed: men > women by gender, students > white-collars > housewives > blue-collars > self-employed > jobless(etc.) by occupation, college graduates > K-12 students > high-school graduates > undergrads & grads by academic background, 3∼5 million > 1∼3 million > over 5 million > less than 1 million by income levels, and not married > married by marital status. In terms of genres, the population of the players is in the order of web board games, RPG, action/racing/shooting, and sports. The RPG game is confirmed to have a higher level of MCR (Max Concurrent User Ratio) than any other genres. On the other hand, the hypothesis on the difference in Repeated Use Ratio according to genres is rejected. This study has also confirmed that interactions exist between gender and age; genre and gender; genre and age among online game users, and conducted post-hoc analysis about those interactions.

  • This study investigates the factors influencing quality of life for cancer patients based on demographic characteristics, physical-mental health, and oral health. These factors are analyzed using the results from 235 cancer patients in Korea's 7th national health and nutrition survey. Data were analyzed using PASW Statistics Ver. 18.0. Studies show that cancer patients experienced stress (74.5%), depression (84.3%), and activity limitations (15.3%). In oral health, problems chewing were often experienced in groups with low incomes (3.35±.21), activity limitations (2.71±.31), and depression (3.01±.27). The factors influencing quality of life were higher by 3.43 times in the low-income group and by 8.39 times in the activity-restricted group, by 2.74 times in the high-stress group, by 4.58 times in the depression group, by 2.68 times in the chewing-problems group, and were 4.92 times higher in the speech problems group (p<0.05). To improve quality of life, not only mental and physical health care, but also oral care is necessary. An integrated management plan for medical staff in the treatment process of cancer patients is required to prevent mental, physical, and oral discomfort.
