A STUDY ON THE CURRENT TRENDS OF BIRTH RATE IN KOREA (최근 한국의 출산율 현황에 관한 고찰)

  • As the current level of birth rate of Korea has dramatically declined, it is obvious that pediatric dentistry will also be affected by this change. This study was performed for the purpose of understanding on the current fertility levels of Korea. The formal data on the number of live births(NLB), crude birth rate(CBR), and total fertility rate(TFR) published annually from the National Statistical Office of Korea from 1992 to 2000 were used as materials for this study. The TFR values from 1990 to 2002 of Korea were compared with those of some western countries with similar history of decreased birth and the CBR values of the metropolitan cities and the capital city Seoul in 2003 were compared domestically, yielding to results as follows. 1. Recent birth rate of Korea was decreased continuously. NLB was about 490,000 CBR was 10.2 and TFR was 1.19. 2. TFR of Korea in 2002 was 1.17, the lowest in the world. 3. There was a large difference in the NLB and CBR between local prefectures and towns of Seoul domestically. Additional population studies and medico-economical studies to exactly predict the demands of pediatric dentistry and proper supplies of manpower in the future was thought urgently required.

The Innovative Strategy on the Activation of Marine Tourism in Busan (부산의 해상관광활성화에 관한 혁신적 전략(1))

  • The commerce and industry of Busan was developed because of good geographical conditions with harbor. After passing its settling-down and diffusing time, Busan has grown in the trade city. Busan has lost the competitive power of the port city since 2000, because of the weakness of its economic power which is caused by the secession of manufacturing industry and the decrease of resident population and foreign tourist. In order to overcome these weaknesses, it is necessary for Busan to take the innovative strategy for the activation of marine tourism. This goal can be achieved by the strong quality of the port city, the coastal terrain, the traditional industry and the international traffic. The aim of this paper is to explore the Innovative Strategy for the activation of marine tourism in Busan and to suggest the following proposal. First, the government must decide the base of marine tourism under the geography viewpoint of the coast and sea, and develope tourism resources after analyzing the identity of marine tourism base. Second, the core part along the selected bases of marine tourism must be constructed the tourism terminal as the landmark of Busan in order to concentrate foreign tourist. Third, after each base of marine tourism must become the resort for tourists, they are able to experience the activity of marine tourism in this resort. Therefore, each base must be specialized. Fourth, each base must be connected with the route of marine tourism Fifth, in order to overcome the off-season of marine tourism, winter tourism goods such as skates, skis, artificial sea-bathing pool, artificial swimming beach, artificial sled, artificial rock wall of coast, hot spring resort of salt water are required to be developed in the center of marine tourism base.

Effect of Helicobacter pylori Eradication on the Prevention of Gastric Cancer in the General Population with or without Precancerous Lesions: A Meta-analysis (일반 인구 집단에서 전암성 병변 유무에 따른 헬리코박터 제균 치료의 위암 예방 효과 연구: 메타분석)

  • We performed a comprehensive meta-analysis on whether Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication can prevent gastric cancer in individuals with precancerous lesions (chronic atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and dysplasia). The studies evaluating the effect of H. pylori eradication on gastric cancer were searched from PubMed, KoreaMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library. Subgroup analyses by precancerous lesions, regions and follow-up time were performed. Six randomized clinical trials were included. In the overall population, H. pylori eradication significantly decreased the risk of gastric cancer (risk ratio [RR]=0.56; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.41-0.77, p<0.01). Eradication therapy significantly reduced the risk of gastric cancer in Asian and group who followed up more than 10 years (RR=0.51; 95% CI: 0.35-0.73, p<0.01; I2=0%, p=0.46). However, subgroup analysis according to the precancerous lesions did not show any significant results (p>0.05). In the general population especially in Asian population, H. pylori eradication can reduce the risk of gastric cancer. The effect of the eradication treatment is remarkable upon the long-term follow-up. In contrast, there is insufficient evidence whether the eradication should be recommended for the individuals with precancerous lesions.

A Study on the User Satisfaction of Demand Response Transport(DRT) by Quantile Regression Analysis (분위회귀분석에 의한 수요응답형교통 이용자 만족도 분석)

  • As the rural areas have experienced the population reduction and the aging, the service level of public transit decreases. This study analyzes the effecting factor to user satisfaction of demand response transport(DRT) as alternative to rural public transit by the quantile regression that aims at estimating either the conditional median or other quantiles of the response variable. Jeonbuk Province tested DRT operations in Dongsang of Wanju County and Sannae of Jeongup City each in 2015. The user DRT satisfaction of Wanju was higher than one of Jeongup in basic statistics analysis. The difference in satisfaction between higher quantile and lower quntile of Wanju is smaller than one of Jeongupy as a result of quantile regression analysis. Also, Wanju DRT continues the second test operation of DRT as satisfaction from Ordinary Least Squares(OLS) close to higher satisfaction quantile.

  • 우리나라 대기오염의 수준은 지난 90년대 초반 이후 아황산가스와 총부유분진의 농도가 감소하고, 대신 오존과 이산화질소의 농도가 증가하면서 점차 다른 선진국에서 경험하는 대기오염현황을 보이고 있다. 한편 PM10과 PM2.5와 같은 미세분진의 경우 그 측정기간이 짧고 자료가 제한적이지만, 일부 지역에서 증가추세를 보이고 있으며, 그 수준을 비교하였을 때 현재 선진국에서 책정한 미세분진의 규제농도를 훨씬 상회하는 것으로 판단된다. 대기오염으로 인한 건강영향으로는 급성으로 고농도에 수 시간에서 수 일 동안 노출되는 경우 폐기능의 저하, 심박동의 변화, 그리고 신체내 염증물질의 증가 등 인체 기능의 변화가 보고되고 있으며, 기존에 폐장질환이나 심혈관질환을 앓고 있는 사람들의 경우 증세의 악화와 의료이용의 증가 등을 경험하거나 더 나아가 사망에 이르러 수명이 단축되는 것이 보고되고 있다. 급성노출의 경우 미세분진 PM10 10 $\mu$m/m3 당 전체 사망률이 0.5-1$\%$ 가량 증가하는 것으로 보고되며, 만성노출을 조사한 코호트 연구에 근거하는 경우 대기오염에 노출되는 전체 인구에 있어 PM2.5 1 $\mu$m/m3 당 1개월의 수명이 단축되는 것으로 추정되고 있다. 아직 대기오염으로 인한 건강영향의 기전이 전부 밝혀진 것은 아니지만, 일부 연구에서 대기오염물질 중에서 전이금속의 역할이 보고되고 있으며, 대기오염에 노출되면서 기관지, 폐포 및 혈액 등에서 염증매개물질의 분비 및 확산 그리고 심장을 비롯한 각 장기 기능의 변화가 보고되고 있다. 한편 이러한 변화들이 증세와 건강상의 비가역적 변화를 야기하는데 있어 대기오염 수준의 역치는 없는 것으로 판단되고 있다. 이러한 대기오염의 영향에 대한 개인수준의 해결책으로서는 자동차 사용의 절제 및 개인적인 쓰레기 소각의 자제 등 오염원 발생의 감소와 함께 대기오염 수준에 따른 증세 및 투약의 적절한 조절과 신체 활동의 조절을 통하여 오염원을 회피하는 것이 강조되어야 하며, 또한 흡연 특히 실내흡연의 금지와 실내 주방기구 및 난방기구의 관리 등이 구체적으로 제시될 수 있다. 마지막으로 대기오염물질들이 신체에 들어와 산화제로 작용하는 만큼, 식품을 통한 항산화제의 섭취가 일반적인 건강관리 수준에서라도 반드시 강조되어야 할 것이다.

Analysis of the Effect of Traffic Safety Investment on Traffic Accident Reduction Using Panel Data (패널자료를 이용한 교통안전투자 종류별 사고감소 효과)

  • There are many investment budget drafts in the filed of a road traffic safety. The traffic safety budget is spitted into following three major areas: 1) traffic safety facility (Engineering), 2) traffic enforcement (Enforcement), and 3) traffic safety education & public relation (Education). The three area are known as so-called 3E policy. This study investigates the effect of the investment in the 3E policy on the reduction of traffic accidents analyzing the data annually collected from the 15 local governments during 1992 to 2007. The analysis employing the traffic accidents as the dependent variable reveals that the effect of the investment is higher if same amount of investment is made on areas of the traffic safety education and public relation than the area of facility improvement. The similar conclusions are resulted from the separate investigation of traffic accidents data by 6 different types. All the results consistently indicate that the current traffic safety investment being primarily made on traffic safety facility needs to shift to the areas of traffic safety education and public relation budget.

The Effects on Turnover Intention of Infant-Care Teacher's Working Environment and Job Satisfaction - Infant-Care Teacher's in Northern Gyeonggi-do - (영아보육교사의 직무환경과 직무만족이 이직의도에 미치는 영향 - 경기도 북부지역을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of the working-environment and job-satisfaction on the turnover intention of infant-care teachers. For this study, a survey was conducted on 200 infant-care teachers, who work in facilities of Northern Gyeonggi-do. The main results of this study are as follows: First, the turnover intention of infant-care teachers has no statistically significant differences by socio-demographic factors. Second, turnover intentions relate negatively to working-environment and job-satisfaction. More job-autonomy reduces the turnover intention and more job-conflict and job-burden increases the turnover intention. Third, the working-environment and job-satisfaction have influences on the turnover intention of infant-care teachers in the regression model. In conclusion, we need to improve the working-environment and to enhance job-satisfaction in order to reduce the turnover rate of infant-care teachers.

  • This paper examines the impact of large-scale tidal flat reclamations on environment by analyzing land use change, ocean cultivation, water quality, sea biota and climate in Shiwha, Sosan and Saemankeum districts. The data used in this paper include Landsat TM images and documents related to population, industry, water quality, sea biota and climate at the time of the pre- and post-reclamation. Many times of field reclamations contribute to the creatation of newly available land for urban and industrial development, but cause environmental degradation significantly. The increase of pollution load and the change of coastal ecology, also cause some changes of climatic element such as relative humidity. As tidal flats were reduced, the area of ocean cultivation and the population of fishing industries were decreased. Conceming the sustainable development. it is necessary to carry out a careful environmental impact assessment accumulating monitoring environmental data continuously by using GIS techniques.

Impact of Jobs-housing Balance on Traffic Safety (직주균형이 교통안전에 미치는 영향)

  • Jobs-housing balance refers to the situations where the employment (work) and housing (house) opportunity are coincided in certain geographical area. This paper aims to examine the impact of jobs-housing balance to traffic safety. In pursuing the above, this paper particularly focuses on modeling the traffic accidents by metropolitan area. The main results are as follows. First, three generalized linear models which are all statistically significant are developed. Jobs-housing balance factors are judged to significantly influence on traffic accidents in all models. Second, among common variables, the housing supply rate is analyzed to impact to decreasing, and economically active population and commuting trip attraction are analyzed to impact to increasing. Hence, the alleviation of jobs-housing mismatch is evaluated to be important. Finally, the jobs-housing and business trip rates in Seoul metropolitan area, and the cross-commuting rate in Busan-Ulsan metropolitan area are judged to be essential to transportation safety policies

The Analysis Method of Landscape Fragmentation using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (식생지수에 의한 경관파편화의 해석기법)

  • The various spatial structure of biological habitat has tighten relationship with biodiversity. Due to increasing of population, development of agriculture and urban structure, various change of landscape has became these days. These change of landscape has raised the decrease of habitat and landscape fragmentation. This paper summarizes research to analysis vegetation index according to P/A ratio, Shape Index, and Fractal dimension using Landsat Thematic Mapper(TM). The analysis of landscape fragmentation using NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) 0.5~1 has the most profitable for detection of vegetation fragmentation. The analysis of vegetation index of Seoul and Kyunggi province has also showed that Fractal dimension has the most fragmentation index. In near future, time series analysis is needed for fragmentation of vegetation on the same area, and for various landuse of fragmentation analysis. These researches were carried out for preservation strategy of vegetation and biodiversity.
