  • The recognition of elevator door is needed for mobile service robots to moving between floors in the building. This paper proposed the sensor fusion approach using LRF (Laser Range Finder) and camera to solve the problem. Using the laser scans by the LRF, we extract line segments and detect candidates as the elevator door. Using the image by the camera, the door candidates are verified and selected as real door of the elevator. The outliers are filtered through the verification process. Then, the door state detection is performed by depth analysis within the door. The proposed method uses extrinsic calibration to fuse the LRF and the camera. It gives better results of elevator door recognition compared to the method using LRF only.

  • This paper proposes a robust object tracking algorithm using object features and on-line learning based particle filter for mobile robots. Mobile robots with a side-view camera have problems as camera jitter, illumination change, object shape variation and occlusion in variety environments. In order to overcome these problems, color histogram and HOG descriptor are fused for efficient representation of an object. Particle filter is used for robust object tracking with on-line learning method IPCA in non-linear environment. The validity of the proposed algorithm is revealed via experiments with DBs acquired in variety environment. The experiments show that the accuracy performance of particle filter using combined color and shape information associated with online learning (92.4 %) is more robust than that of particle filter using only color information (71.1 %) or particle filter using shape and color information without on-line learning (90.3 %).

  • This paper analyzed the narrative construction of ‘World of Warcraft’ which is very popular worldwide. Narratology and ludology should be interrelated in the larger area of art, rather than existing as separate fields. Dramatic narrative constructions of game would be made when the rules of game emerge with the circumstances of play. This paper reviews how 'World of Warcraft' generates its tremendous popularity through analyzing the overall narratives of 'World of Warcraft' and sub-narratives such as quest, PvP and hunting systems. The distinctive feature of this game is its well-designed story flow which is emerged by both underlying linear original story and non-linear multi-scenario that offers rich interactivities to the game users.

  • This study explored the expandability and prospect of the game, one of the cultural contents that may potentially lead the next Korean Wave. The study found that for the game to grow and be recognized as the cultural product of the Korean Wave, it was necessary to develop the strategies to ensure the sustainability of the game and to build plans for powerful storytelling techniques that help the public become more familiarized with the game as part of the Korean Wave and maximize the public's affinity and preference of such game. It was also found that one of the immediate priorities is to develop the games that are characterized as their unique use and representation of the Korean culture in the global market while designing effective localization plans and paving the way for a government-level system of support.

  • The compost dextrose(CD) medium was selected a an optimum liquid culture media for Portobella(Agaricus brunescens). The optimal conditions for the mycelial growth of Agaricus brunescens were 25 and pH 7.0. Sucrose and soluble starch were favorable to mycelial growth. Malt extract and ammonium nitrate appeared to be more favorable than the other kinds of nitrogen source. The optimum C/N ratio as about 10.When the collected Portobella trains were compared with growth characteristics, KME 49007 appeared the highest of $44.6kg/3.3m^2$.

  • The equipments mounted on guided-missile undertake heavy vibrational disturbance. Sometimes the equipments mounted on guided-missile go wrong so that the guided-missile flies over unintended place. For the vibration isolation of the equipments mounted on guided-missile, active vibration control was performed. In the case of active vibration technique, the stiffness matrix and the mass matrix are derived based on FEM (ANSYS5.0). Model reduction was carried out and, as a result, we got 7 DOF mass and stiffness matrix. For the sake of FEM model identification, modal experiment was carried out. With the help of Sensitivity Analysis, the natural frequencies of FEM were tuned to those of Experiment. In this work, the Sky Hook and the LQG control theory were adopted for v iteration control using stacked piezoactuator. Experiments were performed with changing excitation frequency from 10 Hz upto 200 Hz and we got frequency response function of guided-missile equipments. The magnitude of 3rd mode of guided-missile equipments is 8.6 % that of Uncontrolled in Skyhook controller and is 3.4 % that of uncontrolled in LQG controller.

  • This paper proposes a method of tracking an object for a person-following mobile robot by combining a monocular camera and a laser scanner, where each sensor can supplement the weaknesses of the other sensor. For human-robot interaction, a mobile robot needs to maintain a distance between a moving person and itself. Maintaining distance consists of two parts: object tracking and person-following. Object tracking consists of particle filtering and online learning using shape features which are extracted from an image. A monocular camera easily fails to track a person due to a narrow field-of-view and influence of illumination changes, and has therefore been used together with a laser scanner. After constructing the geometric relation between the differently oriented sensors, the proposed method demonstrates its robustness in tracking and following a person with a success rate of 94.7% in indoor environments with varying lighting conditions and even when a moving object is located between the robot and the person.

  • Free vibration of a thin-walled laminated composite beam is studied. A general analytical model applicable to the dynamic behavior of a thin-walled channel section composite is developed. This model is based on the classical lamination theory, and accounts for the coupling of flexural and torsional modes for arbitrary laminate stacking sequence configuration. i.e. unsymmetric as well as symmetric, and various boundary conditions. A displacement-based one-dimensional finite element model is developed to predict natural frequencies and corresponding vibration modes for a thin-walled composite beam. Equations of motion are derived from the Hamilton's principle. Numerical results are obtained for thin-walled composite addressing the effects of fiber angle. modulus ratio. and boundary conditions on the vibration frequencies and mode shapes of the composites.

  • An under-tension system is frequently employed for large-span structures to reduce the deflection and member size. In this study, a microgenetic algorithm was used to find the optimum cross-section of truss structures with an undertension cable under transverse loading. Maximum deflection, allowable stress, and buckling were considered constraints. The proposed approach was verified using a 10-bar truss sample that shows good agreement with the previous results. In the numerical results, minimum-weight design of the under-tension structure was performed for various magnitudes of pretension.

  • This paper proposes two novel prediction-based adaptive selection cooperation schemes combined with a new relay selection strategy. In the proposed schemes, the destination predicts whether the transmission will be successful or not before a single relay is selected to transmit source's decoded data. Depending on the prediction, the destination feeds back a command to the whole network. Numerical results show that the proposed schemes combined with the relay selection strategy successfully reduce its outage probability, improve its throughput, save transmitted power, and prolong the lifetime of the network.
