  • This study investigates how participatory digital archives should handle user-contributed content in order to legitimately collect from and make available to users according to current copyright laws and related regulations. In doing so, this study surveys the current national and international copyright laws that would apply for digital contents in archives. It also reviews the existing literature that analyzes the understanding and interpretation of regulations and specific infringement cases. Then, it examines the cases of participatory digital archives as to how they deal with the copyright issues to user-contributed content and provide guidance to users in this respect. Based on such analysis, the study suggests a few methods of how digital archives acquire necessary rights for the user-contributed content being housed in archives and how they provide useful guidance to users about their rights and responsibilities. These methods include terms and conditions for contribution/service and essential elements in terms, contributor agreements and their details, and other user guidelines.

  • This study devised a user-participatory design process for users to participate directly in the design process and was implemented at Daegu Padong Elementary School. Users of the school forest were divided into four groups: the lower grades, the upper grades, local residents(parents included), and faculty. The methods of this study were image survey, preference survey, card playing, and model playing. Researchers investigated the level of user satisfaction the following year. The specific design process is as follows: First of all, the concept of the school forest was established through audio-visual education for students and image research was conducted through drawing and painting activities entitled 'The School Forest I Want'. Second, in the image survey, a survey of areas and facilities with high frequency use was conducted in the study of the lower grades, the upper grades, local residents, and the faculty. Image cards of spaces and facilities that showed high preference were produced and the cards were placed in four groups on the school lot plan to check the location of place and facilities desired. Based on this, a model and a basic idea were created through consultation with future users. Lastly, the study design was completed. After 1 year from the completion of the school forest, users were again surveyed regarding their satisfaction with use. The importance of this study is as follows: 1) Treating all potential users of a school forest as the subject of design participation, 2) Reasoning out a plan created by the users themselves through consultation and discussion throughout all steps of the design process, 3) Grasping how users utilize a school forest and the type of spaces most preferred via preference survey after completion of the school forest and showing the importance of user participation by showing that spaces preferred by users were similar to those in which experts were also highly interested.

  • We propose a plan to reduce the operational risk of domestic cryptocurrency exchanges for protecting cryptocurrency exchange users and establishing a stable operating environment. For market participants using cryptocurrency exchanges, cryptocurrency exchange risk is greater than the price risk. In the cryptocurrency market, illegal transactions using the anonymity of cryptocurrency are occurring frequently. In addition, loss accidents due to cybercrimes and insider corruptions are continuing. And the resulting losses are passed on to the users of the exchange. In terms of operational risk, we analyze the current situation of domestic cryptocurrency exchanges and present the direction of development of each exchange platform to attract and protect users.

  • This study aims to explore how users are tagging in order to utilize a folksonomy and whether they understand the social and interactive aspects of tagging in three different folksonomic systems, Connotea (www.connotea.org), Delicious(http://delicious.com), and CiteULike(www.citeulike.org). The study uses internet questionnaires, qualitative diary studies, and follow-up interviews to understand twelve participants' tagging activities associated with folksonomic interactions. The flow charts developed from the twelve participants showed that tagging was a quite complex process, in which each tagging activity was interconnected, and a variety of folksonomic system features were employed. Three main tagging activities involved in the tagging processes have been identified: item selection, tag assignment, and tag searching and discovery. During the tag assignment, participants would describe their tagging motivations related to various types of tags. Their perception of the usefulness of types of tags was different when their purpose was for social sharing rather than personal information management. While tagging, participants recognized the social potential of a folksonomic system and used interactive aspects of tagging via various features of the folksonomic system. It is hoped that this empirical study will provide insight into theoretical and practical issues regarding users' perceptions and use of folksonomy in accessing, sharing, and navigating internet resources.
