  • Pool boiling experiments were carried out to study the effect of electric field on nucleate boiling heat transfer. CFC-11 and its alternative HCFC-123 were used as working fluids. Boiling on both single tube and a bundle of five tubes was investigated. Heat flux varied from 5 to $25kW/m^2$ while the applied voltage changed from 0 to 1kV. The results showed that at low heat flux where boiling was not present or very weak, electric field-induced forced convection helped increase the heat transfer coefficients of CFC-11 and HCFC-123 significantly(4-15 times increase). However, at higher heat flux, nucleate boiling of CFC-11 which is a highly dielectric fluid, was not affected significantly by the application of electric field. In contrast to CFC-11, even at high heat flux, nucleate boiling of CFC-11 which has a relatively larger electric conductivity than CFC-11, was vigorously increased up to 2-4 times. The additional power required to apply the electric field was 1-2% of the total power consumption by the heater. The increase in overall heat transfer coefficient of evaporators with HCFC -123 was about 40%, suggesting a considerable reduction in evaporator size with EHD technique.

  • Chaos characteristics of laser diodes with external optical feedback is investigated. For a FabryPerot resonator laser, optical feedback by external mirror is assumed. The simulation is performed in such a way that a current of $1.3J_{th}$ is injected into the $1.3{\mu}m$wavelength "InGaAsP" buried hetero structure laser. With the increment of K, the system shows the evolution of four steps as follows: i) When the optical feedback coefficient K is very small, the relaxation oscillation is damped and the system reaches the steady state showing the stable operation characteristics. ii) As K increases a little bit, the relaxation oscillation is not damped any more and the system begins to maintain the periodic oscillation. iii) When K is increased further, the oscillation shows the larger amplitude and the long periodic length. iv) When K is increased very large, the system gets unstable and enters into the coherejlce collapse state. state.

  • Although phonocardiography by auscultation has been used in diagnosis long time ago, recognition of heart sound was tried only restricted fields such as the first heart sound, the second heart sound, and specific valve operation for the purpose of analyzing local function or operation of heart and developments of heart sound recognition in full cycle are quite insignificant. in this paper, we proposed a recognition method which extracts features of heart sound in full cycle and classllies heart sounds This proposed recognition algorithm is based on detecting the first and second heart sounds in thme domain. The algorithm classifics heart sound into several classes by extracting the important time blocks and analyzing the peak position, integration values and statistical variables. Heart sounds are classified into normal, early systolic murmur, late systolic mumur, early diastolic murmur, late diastolie murmur, continuous murmur. We can verify our algorithm is useful from the results which show the average recognition rate of heart sounds is 88 perecnt. Recognition error was occurred mainly in early systolic murmur.

  • The rheological properties of poly (acrylonitrile) (PAN) and cellulose acetate (CA) blend solutions in N,N-dimethyl formamide (DMF) were investigated in terms of temperature and blend composition. The solutions exhibited a very characteristic rheological behavior with variation of temperature. 8 wt% solution showed an increase of viscosity and a decrease of loss tangent as temperature was increased over the temperature range of 20 and $60^{\circ}C$. At $20^{\circ}C$ the physical properties of the solutions exhibited dependence on the blend composition. At 40 and $60^{\circ}C$, however, the effects of blend ratio on the physical properties notably diminished. The longer relaxation time at higher temperature indicated that the formation of physical structures resulting from intermolecular interactions was promoted with increasing temperature. The odd rheological responses were further elucidated by measuring of the physical properties of dilute solutions. The intrinsic viscosity of the solutions suggested that the coiled chain dimension was reduced with increasing temperature.

  • Purpose : To report a short-term clinical results and technical method of thermal shrinkage with radiofrequency device for anterior and posterior cruciate ligament laxity which is not suitable to indications of reconstructive surgery. Materials and Methods : Nine cases of anterior cruciate ligament injuries (ACL), 5 cases of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries and 3 cases of combined anterior and posterior cruciate ligament injuries, in which the condition is not indicated as reconstructive surgery, are investigated. The follow-up period averaged 6 months. Results : Instability in living activity, limping and pain were improved with excellent results. But, posterior cruciate ligament thermal shrinkage revealed as recurrent knee laxity progressively Conclusions : The result of thermal shrinkage for partial tear of cruciated ligament was excellent. We believe this procedure is applicable to partial tear of the ACL or PCL which reconstructive surgery is not indicated. Long-term follow-up results were needed.

  • Recently, product research has been continuously conducted to enhance accessibility to blood pressure measurement for the purpose of healthcare for the chronic patient. In previous studies, electrocardiogram (ECG) and photoelectric pulse wave (PPG) are analyzed to calculate systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The problem is the development of analysis algorithms for accuracy and reproducibility. In this study, in the development stage of a micro blood pressure measuring device, the size of the device was reduced and the measurement method was simplified, while the algorithm was to extract systolic blood pressure (SBP) using only two PPGs and obtain diastolic blood pressure (DBP). The difference value of PPG, DF_P, is inversely related to SBP, and has a proportional relationship with DBP, which can be leaked by algorithm, and DBP can be tracked through SBP.

  • Amyloidosis is a multisystemic disease characterized by the accumulation of abnormal proteins in extracellular spaces in various organs, with frequent involvement of the myocardium. We report a case of a patient who had cardiac amyloidosis with a trend of reduction in native T1 and T2 values and extracellular volume fraction on serial cardiac magnetic resonance imaging after chemotherapy and stem cell transplantation. The native T1 value and the extracellular volume fraction are closely associated with tissue amyloid burden in amyloidosis patients. This case demonstrated that cardiac magnetic resonance imaging may be used as a non-invasive and quantitative biomarker in the treatment monitoring of amyloidosis.

  • An analysis method for the time-dependent nonlinear analysis of segmentally erected planar prestressed concrete cable-stayed bridges was described. To account for the time-dependent effects, load history, creep, shrinkage. aging of concrete and relaxation of prestress were considered. Changes in boundary conditions and loads, installing and removing frame elements, stressing, restressing and removing cables and prestressing tendons were incorporated for modeling segmental erection operations. One typical example on segmentally erected prestressed concrete cable-stayed bridge was presented to illustrate the analysis method. Results of this example show that it is important to follow the development of stresses and deformations at all stages of construction to predict the true response of the bridge through its various load history.
