기술선택을 고려한 운송부문 이산화탄소 배출량 저감방안의 평가

  • 운송부문에서의 이산화탄소 배출량저감을 위한 정책대안을 통합적인 시뮬레이션 모형을 통하여 평가하였다. 분석에 이용된 시뮬레이션 모형은 일본의 국립환경연구소에 의해 개발된 AIM을 일부 수정한 AIM/KOREA이다. 분석의 결과는 다음의 3가지로 정리할 수 있다. 첫째, 기존차량에 비해 가격이 다소 비싸거나 동등한 에너지절약형 차량은 탄소세의 부과없이도 2005년에 가면 신규차량 전부를 대체할 것으로 전망된다. 둘째, 운송부문에서의 에너지 사용량은 앞으로 급격히 증가하고 이에 따라 이산화탄소의 배출량도 크게 증가할 것으로 예측된다. 그러나 이산화탄소의 배출량 감소를 목표로 하는 탄소세부과는 이산화탄소 배출저감에 기여하지 못하는 것으로 전망되었다. 반면에 승용차 10부제의 시행은 이산화탄소배출량의 급격한 증가를 크게 둔화시킬 수 있는 하나의 대안으로 제시되었다. 셋째, 에너지절약형 차량, 특히 전기자동차의 구입자에게 탄소세에 의해 확보된 재원을 이용하여 보조금을 지급하는 것이 운송부문에서 이산화탄소배출량을 줄일 수 있는 하나의 대안으로 평가되었다.

A Guideline for Construction Management Plan Based on the Characteristics of $CO_2$ Emissions: A Case Study for a High-Rise Residential Building Project ($CO_2$ 배출 특성을 고려한 건설폐기물 관리방안 수립기준: 고층 주거건물 건설 프로젝트를 대상으로 한 사례조사)

  • As the amount of $CO_2$ emission in Korea is ranked 9th and the increasing rate of $CO_2$ emissions highest in the world, it is strongly necessary to devise methods to decrease the amount of $CO_2$ in each industry as the basis of establishing environmentally sustainable production system. This paper aims to identify the characteristics of $CO_2$ emissions from construction wastes throughout the simplified LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and suggest the strategic guideline for the construction waste management plan to decrease $CO_2$. As a result of LCA on the case of a high-rise residential building project, total sum of $CO_2$ emission generated from construction wastes appeared as 6,818,123kg-$CO_2$ and $CO_2$ emission per unit floor area as 21.01kg-$CO_2/{\beta}{\ge}$. The principal waste materials generating more than 95% of $CO_2$ are materials such as reinforcing bar, temporary materials, cement, ready-mixed-concrete, concrete products, and tile, which have relatively high unit emission rate of $CO_2$ in the process of production. Besides, more than 92% of $CO_2$ was generated from the activities such as structure work, plaster work, temporary work, and tile and stone work, which are generally executed in the early phase of the whole construction period. Reflecting these results, the guideline for the construction waste management plan was recommended. If the waste management plan is established considering the guideline suggested, there would be high potential to decrease the amount of $CO_2$ generated from construction wastes.

Evaluation of Life Cycle Energy Consumption and CO2 Emission of Elementary School of Buildings (초등학교 건축물의 생애주기 에너지사용량 및 이산화탄소 배출량 평가)

  • This study investigates and analyzes the total amount of energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission during the material manufacturing, transportation, construction, operation, and disposal phases of eight elementary school buildings in South Korea. Toward this ends, the hybrid LCA model is proposed. The life cycle energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission of eight case buildings are assessed using the hybrid LCA model with an assumption that the operation period is 40 years. As a result, the embodied(sum of the energy consumption in the material manufacturing, transportation and construction phases), operational and disposal energy were 2,279, 11,182, $228Mcal/m^2$, respectively, on average. The average embodied, operational, and disposal $CO_2$ emission were 604, 2,708, 60 kg-$CO_2/m^2$, respectively, on average. This result indicates that about 17% of life cycle energy (or $CO_2$ emission) is consumed in the material manufacturing, transportation and construction phases. Thus, it is necessary to consider the embodied energy and $CO_2$ emission to reduce the life cycle energy and $CO_2$ emission of school buildings. In addition, while the insulation standard of building have been provided based on the climate zone, energy consumption in operation phase still varied depending on the regions in this study. Thus, the insulation standard of building needs to be improved through considering the climate of regions in detail.

Study on the Evaluation CO2 Emission-Absorption of Concrete in the View of Carbonation (콘크리트의 탄산화 관점에서 CO2 배출량-흡수량 평가에 관한 연구)

  • A concrete is considered unfriendly-environmental material because it uses cement which emits much $CO_2$ during producing process. However, a concrete absorbs $CO_2$ through carbonation process during service life. In this paper how much concrete absorbs $CO_2$ through carbonation was calculated using 1) concentration of carbonatable substances in concrete, 2) carbonated volume of concrete, 3) molecular weight of $CO_2$ based on references and the method was proposed. $CO_2$ emission from producing $1m^3$ concrete was calculated based on $CO_2$ emission datum of materials used in concrete. From using these methods that calculate $CO_2$ emission and absorption of concrete, assessment of $CO_2$ emission-absorption against a real apartment was conducted by subtracting absorption $CO_2$ according to service life from $CO_2$ emission in the process of making concrete. As a result, a ratio of absorption over emission of $CO_2$ through concrete carbonation according to service life 40, 60, 80 years was assessed about 3.65, 4.47, 5.18%. An objective of this study is to propose how to calculate emission - absorption of $CO_2$ from producing and using concrete. Although the result value, emission - absorption of $CO_2$, is 5.18% very low when the service life of an apartment is 80years, the value can be improved by reducing emission from using blended cement such as blast furnace slag or increasing replacement ratio of cement and increasing carbonated volume of concrete from expanding service life of a building. This study may be useful when $CO_2$ emission - absorption of concrete is evaluated in the further study.

Evaluating Carbon Dioxide Emission from Cadastral Category based on Tier 3 Approach (Tier 3 방식에 의거한 지목별 온실가스 배출 실태평가)

  • It is usual for the carbon dioxide emission to be calculated by official energy consumption statistics produced from a number of specialized industrial process such as refinery, power plant etc. The aim of this research was to evaluate potential of cadastral system in monitoring carbon dioxide emitted from land use. An empirical study for a cadastral category was conducted to demonstrate how a on-site measurement can be used to assist in estimating the carbon dioxide emission in terms of land use specific settings. The cadastral category based analysis made it possible to identify area-wide patterns of carbon dioxide emission, which cannot be acquired by traditional Government statistics. It was possible to identify successively increasing trends in the human-related parcels such as housing land while decreasing trends of carbon dioxide in sink parcels(eg. forest). The results indicate that the cadastral parcel could be used not only as a tool to monitor carbon dioxide emission, but also as an evidence to restrict initiation of development activities causing negative influence to carbon dioxide emission such as road construction. As a result, the research findings have established the new concept of "carbon dioxide emission monitoring based on cadastral category", proposed as an initial aim of this paper.

Comparison of the CO2 Emissions of Buildings using Input-Output LCA Model and Hybrid LCA Model (산업연관분석법 기반 LCA 모델과 Hybrid LCA 모델의 건축물 이산화탄소 배출량 평가결과 비교)

  • This study aims to determine whether or not the input output life cycle assessment (I-O LCA) model can be used to assess the carbon dioxide (CO2) emission of buildings in initial planning phase. To ensure this end, this study proposed I-O LCA model which is the simplified LCA model and Hybrid LCA model which is the detailed LCA model, and then assessed and compared the CO2 emission of six case projects (three apartment complexes and three educational facilities) using the two LCA model. The results of the case study showed that the CO2 emissions assessed by the I-O LCA is significantly similar to the CO2 emission assessed by the Hybrid LCA model. The similarity of results from both LCA models was 78.2-86.3% in apartment complexes and 59.9-84.8% in educational facilities. However, the CO2 emissions from I-O LCA model were smaller than the CO2 emissions from Hybrid LCA model in case study. Nevertheless, the case study showed that the I-O LCA model was capable of assessing the CO2 emission of buildings quite appropriately although the I-O LCA model is the simplified LCA model which considers only the construction cost. The I-O LCA model is expected to be a useful tool for assessing the CO2 emission of buildings in initial planning phase.

  • 기후변화로 인하여, 홍수, 사막화, 엘니뇨 등의 자연재해가 이전보다 더 발생하고 있다. 기후변화 적응은 전 세계적으로 기후변화 대응보다 중요해지고 있다. 기후변화 적응을 위한 이슈 중 하나가 물 순환이다. 각 국가에서는 물 순환을 활성화하기 위한 기술을 개발하고 있다. 특히, 저영향개발(LID, Low Impact Development)이라는 물을 확보하기 위한 정책이 각 국가별로 추진되고 있으며, 이에 따른 기술이 개발되고 있다. 국내에서도 2001년에 국토해양부는 수자원장기종합계획을 발표하고, 환경부에서는 2013년에 LID기술요소 가이드라인과 환경영향평가 시 적용 가능한 저영향개발 매뉴얼을 개발하는 등 LID기술을 개발하고 적용하기 위한 정책을 펼치고 있다. 이러한 LID기술 중 하나가 빗물 집수시스템이며, 이 빗물집수시스템은 주거지역에서 빗물을 배수하고, 집수하여 빗물을 이용하기 위해 적용되고 있다. 현재 적용되고 있는 빗물 집수시스템은 측구 집수시스템과 원형 집수시스템이 있으며, 최근에는 수로형 집수시스템이 적용되는 지역도 있다. 본 연구에서는 전과정 평가(LCA, Life Cycle Assessment)를 이용하여 빗물 집수시스템의 환경성을 평가하고자 한다. 현재, 국내에서는 녹색건축물인증, 탄소성적 표지인증, 환경성적 표지인증 등 LCA를 이용하여 환경성을 평가하고 있다. 특히, 본 연구에서는 기후변화 측면에서 LCA를 적용하여 이산화탄소배출량을 평가하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 범위는 빗물집수시스템 30m로 가정하였으며, 측구 집수시스템, 원형 집수시스템 및 수로형 집수시스템의 건설, 운영 및 유지관리, 해체 및 폐기단계의 전 과정이다. 각 빗물 집수시스템에 대해 각 단계별로 이산화탄소 배출량을 산정한 결과, 수로형 집수시스템은 $2.82\;ton\;CO_2\;eq./set$이며, 원형 집수시스템은 $27.65\;ton\;CO_2\;eq./set$, 측구 집수시스템은 $21.54\;ton\;CO_2\;eq./set$이 배출되었다. 이산화탄소배출량 측면에서는 수로형 집수시스템이 나머지 두집수시스템보다 87~90%가 저감되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 저영향개발에 대응하는 동시에 기후변화를 대응한다는 측면에서 빗물 집수시스템 정책에 활용되고, 설계시에도 반영될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. 추가적으로 이산화탄소뿐 만 아니라, 다른 환경성을 평가하는 연구가 진행될 필요가 있다.

An analysis on CO2 emission of structural steel materials by strength using Input-Output LCA (산업연관분석법을 이용한 강도에 따른 구조용 강재의 이산화탄소 배출량 데이터 구축)

  • Along with the increasing interest in environmental problems such as global warming, the South Korean government has established policies and regulations to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases, targeting a 30% reduction of $CO_2$ compared to business-as-usual levels by 2020. Thus, there have been many studies in construction field to control and reduce the amount of $CO_2$ emitted from buildings. $CO_2$ emission from the building construction could be obtained by using the life cycle assessment(LCA) methodology. In LCA, it is essential to have life cycle inventory(LCI) data of construction materials consisting of $CO_2$ emission data that have been defined and examined in a detailed way in order to obtain more accurate and detailed $CO_2$ emission of buildings. To date, however, the LCI data have been acquired only for the representative materials. Accordingly this study aimed to propose detailed $CO_2$ emission data for steel rebar and H-beam, which are the essential structural steel materials, by strength and type. To accomplish the objective, this study used Input-Output LCA methodology which is based on the Input-Output table. It is believed that the $CO_2$ emission data of steel materials acquired from this study would allow a more accurate assessment of $CO_2$ emission for diverse structural design alternatives.

Correlation Analysis on the Duration and CO2 Emission Following the Earth-work Equipment Combination (토공장비조합에 따른 공사기간 및 이산화탄소 배출량의 상관성 분석)

  • After Kyoto Protocol was adopted for green gas reduction, each nations are stepping up efforts to reduce $CO_2$ of a typical green gas. Construction industry also is trying $CO_2$ reduction with the techniques of two types which are software and hardware techniques. The software technique are Passive Design considered green gas emission and the environment impact assessment by LCA. The hardware techniques are adjustment of equipment system and development of eco- friendly material. But, it is nonexistent that a study related to $CO_2$ emission considered detail process in construction industry. This study analyzed the correlation of equipment combination, $CO_2$ emission and duration by calculate $CO_2$ emission follow to equipment combination on earth-work which is the process emitted most $CO_2$ among railway bedding construction.

Genetic Algorithm Based Optimal Structural Design Method for Cost and CO2 Emissions of Reinforced Concrete Frames (철근콘크리트 모멘트골조의 비용 및 이산화탄소 배출량을 고려한 유전자알고리즘 기반 구조최적화기법)

  • In this study, the genetic algorithm based optimal structural design method is proposed. The objective functions are to minimize the cost and $CO_2$ emissions, simultaneously. The cost and $CO_2$ emissions are calculated based on the cross-sectional dimensions, length, material strength, and reinforcement ratio of beam and column members. Thus, the cost and $CO_2$ emissions are evaluated by using the amounts of concrete and reinforcement used to construct a building. In this study, the cost and $CO_2$ emissions calculated at the phases of material transportation, construction, and building operation are excluded. The constraint conditions on the strength of beam and column members and the inter-story drift ratio are considered. The linear static analysis by using OpenSees is automatically conducted in the proposed method. The genetic algorithm is employed to solve the formulated problem. The proposed method is validated by applying it to the 4-story reinforced concrete moment frame example.
