Text Region Segmentation from Web Images using Variance Maps (분산맵을 이용한 웹 이미지 텍스트 영역 추출)

  • A variance map can be used to detect and distinguish texts from background in images. However, previous variance maps work at one level and they suffer a limitation in dealing with varieties in text size, slant, orientation, translation, and color. We present a method for robustly segmenting text regions in complex color Web images using two-level variance maps. The two-level variance maps work hierarchically. The first level finds the approximate locations of text regions using global horizontal and vertical color variances with the specific mask sizes. The second level then segments each text region using intensity variance with a local mask size, which is determined adaptively. By the second process, backgrounds tend to disappear in each region and segmentation can be accurate. Highly promising experimental results have established the effectiveness of our approach.

  • In this study, a crack monitoring system capable of detecting cracks based on image processing techniques was developed to effectively check cracks, which are the main damage of concrete structures, and a program capable of imaging and analyzing cracks was developed using machine vision. This system provides objective and quantitative data by replacing the appearance inspection that checks cracks with the naked eye. The verification of the development system was applied to the construction site of a self-healing concrete water tank to monitor the crack and the amount of change in the crack width according to age. In the case of crack width detected by image analysis, the difference from the measured value using a digital microscope was up to 0.036 mm, and the crack healing effect of self-healing concrete could be confirmed through the reduction of crack width.

  • Recently, consumers' taste has been diversified, consumption pattern has changed, and product package design has been gradually developed. The product packaging design should be made to be able to know the contents accurately, and it should have the charm that attracts consumers' attention and makes them want to buy the goods. In addition, product design should motivate consumers to buy according to brand naming, package layout, content expression method, taste color, as well as graphic elements that induce visual effects.The graphic elements that express the image of the contents in a package design of the product at a glance are the most essential elements to enhance the value added of the product and to induce the purchase motivation and rationalization of the consumer. This study is a study on visual image symbol image using visual information metadata in livestock products. It examines cases of various livestock packages and presents graphical elements that can visualize livestock images at a glance as metadata elements. We will pursue the premiumization of livestock products, raise brand value, and offer differentiating design strategies for economic benefits as well as potential for revitalizing the livestock market.

Factors Affecting Carbon-Labeling Brand Loyalty : Applying Value-Attitude-Behavior Model (탄소라벨링 브랜드 충성도를 결정하는 요인: 가치태도행동 모형의 적용)

  • With a growing concern about climate change and green house gases mitigation, carbon labeling policy has been launched in several countries as an environmental policy which connects low carbon production to low carbon consumption. This research aims to propose a model that explains consumers' attitude and brand loyalty toward carbon labeling products. This model specifies the consumer's psychological processes by which consumer values, such as autonomy and environmental values, affect carbon labeling product and corporate images and finally form brand loyalty toward carbon labeling products. Panel data were collected in two separate surveys and analyzed using a structural equation technique. Results are summarized as follows. First, consumers' autonomy value(AV) positively affects locus of control(LC) and corporate image(CI). Second, consumers' environmental value(EV) positively influences perceived consumer effectiveness(PCE), which in turn has a negative effect on perceived barriers(PB). Perceived barriers finally affect product image(PI) negatively. Third, both corporate image and product image have causal relationships with brand loyalty. Our results suggest that carbon labeling policy contributes not only to the reduction of greenhouse gases but also to the increase of consumers' attitude and brand loyalty toward carbon labeling products. This research also provides governments with directions for efficient environmental policy and firms with guidance on effective marketing strategies about carbon labeling.

  • A human face figure is a visual symbol of identity. Each different face per person is a critical information differentiating each person from others and it directly relates to individual identity. When we look back human history, historical change of recognition for a face led to the change of expression and communication media and it in turn caused many changes in expressing a face. However, there has not been no time period when people pay attention to a face more than this time. Technically, the advent of computer graphics opened new turning point in expressing human face figure. Especially, a visual image which can be produced, saved, and transferred in digital has no limitation in time and space, and its importance in communication is getting higher and higher. Among those visual image information, a face image in digital is getting more applications. Therefore, 3d (3-dimensional) expression of a face using computer graphics can be easily produced without any professional techniques, just like assembling puzzle parts composed of the shape of each part ands texture map, etc. This study presents a method with which a general visual designer can effectively express 3d type face by studying each producing step of 3d face expression and by visualizing case study based on the above-mentioned study result.

  • It is difficult to detect the accurate detection which leads the camera it moves follows in change of the noise or illumination and Also, it could be recognized with backgound if the object doesn't move during hours. In this paper, the proposed method is updating changed background image as much as N*M pixel mask as time goes on after get a difference between imput image and first background image. And checking image pixel can efficiently detect moving by computing fixed distance pixel instead of operate all pixel. Also, set up minimum area of object to use boundary point of object abstracted through checking image pixel and motion detect of object. Therefore motion detection is available as is fast and correct without doing checking image pixel every Dame. From experiment, the designed and implemented system showed high precision ratio in performance assessment more than 90 percents.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate students' understanding of functions based on concept image and concept definition suggested by Vinner, For the study a graphing calculator was provided as a tool for students to use for their exploration. Three students participated in the study using the qualitative research method to identify their processes of understanding functions. The student with previous experiences of the functions had various concept images about the functions and did not have many opportunities to modify their images because the student did not want to depend on the calculator. However, the student who did not have many chances to study about the functions before used the calculator effectively for developing the concept definition on the functions. The calculator played an important role in connecting different representations and finding relationships between these representations supported by dynamic exploration.

A Study on Strategies for Corporate Advertisements in Concept Cases (기업광고 전략에 관한 연구 -컨셉사례를 중심으로-)

  • In the face of rapidly changing society and consumer cognition, eyer-increasing importance of strategies for creating good images for a company among critical factors inf1uencing management in terms of its survive is prevalent. Today, many companies strive for getting or improving their images with advertisements for corporate identity as well as public advertisements, which is considered as a requirement of this society and age for good images of companies rather for only good products and services. In this study, we analyzed and compared the largest companies in Korea, mainly in their printed materials for advertisements over the last 10 years from 1990. Corporate advertisements performed by domestic companies could be classified into several types based on their theoretical backgrounds and creative concepts. Basic theoretical backgrounds of corporate advertisements induced in the study are recognitive-psychological model and associative learning model. And, six areas of cases were classified and analysed in terms of their such creative concepts as random difference, competitive advantage and specific creativity. We analyzed and compared cases of strategies for domestic corporate advertisements with reference to these six each area in their effects and problems in terms of theoretical and practical aspects and thereby purpose to provide companies with reference in developing strategies for corporate advertisements of companies.

Visual Representation of Fear Appeals in Chinese Public Service Advertising -Focused on HuangHe Award-winning Public Service Posters- (중국 공익광고에 나타난 공포소구의 시각적 표현 -중국 황하상(黃河奬) 공익포스터를 중심으로-)

  • Public service advertising is a form of communication activity performed to increase public interest. In order to improve the effectiveness of public service advertising, it is necessary to formulate advertising strategies that can actually induce positive action changes. China has various social problems because of dramatic social changes, which call for implementing public service advertising. This study aims to improve the persuasive effects of Chinese public service advertising by addressing effective communication strategies. In particular, we selected 33 works that use fear appeals from 2016 HuangHe Award-winning posters and analyzed their visual representation of fear appeals. The results suggest that fear appeals are frequently used in safe driving and anti-smoking campaigns. In addition, main colors of these posters were black and white. The main fearful images were often represented in a form of 'fact' and 'factual conception' and in the type of 'picture.' They also have features of implicit association' and 'exaggeration'. This study has a significance in terms of providing theoretical and empirical information to future research on improvement of public service advertising in China.

  • In this paper, we introduce PMS's main function and main effect which implemented medium and large scale software development project site, and we propose importance and improvement nacessity of PMS implementation. PMS's main functions are developed based on best practices which CMMI model and PMBOK. Also, each PMS has specialized unique function according to it's target industry area or related I.T solutions which has infra dependency. The effectiveness of PMS implementation on project site is seperated two types, one is qualitative effect, the other quantitative effect. Representative qualitative effects are improvement of enterprise's image and competency. Also representative quantitative effect is reduction of project management cost as a financial effect. As far as project size is increase, PMS's needs and necessariness will be increase, so we need to improve PMS;s function according to project management's global trend and software customer's requisition.
