  • This study was performed to confirm the antioxidative and hair-growth-promotion effects of a fermented compound composed of five materials, namely Allium cepa, Cucurbita spp., Glycine max Merr., Pinus sylvestris leaf, and Sesamum indicum. An additional compound composed of two materials was composed of Allium cepa and Cucurbita spp. Antioxidative effects were measured based on DPPH radical-scavenging activity and total flavonoid content. Fermented 5-type natural compounds (5NC) showed higher DPPH radical-scavenging activity and flavonoid content than those of fermented 2-type natural compounds (2NC). Hair-growth promotion was demonstrated in vivo. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP), oid contentontenteptidase phospactivity, and macroscopic observation were measured. Experimental animals were divided into four groups based on the samples they were administered: water, pansildil (P-CON), 5NC, and 2NC. Samples were administered orally once a day at a fixed time for four weeks. Both ALP and ${\gamma}eeksactivity$ increased in the 5NC group compared with the 2NC group. In macroscopic observation, the P-CON group grew the most and were most similar to the state before shaving. The 5NC group grew hair similar to the P-CON group. In all the results, the 5NC group showed greater antioxidative and hair-growth-promotion effects than the 2NC group. Consequently, 5NC could be used as an ingredient for hair-growth promotion.

  • Determinism and compatibilism have thought that libertarianism contradicts the scientific view. This paper demonstrates that the hypothesis that free will exists does not cause any problems and contradictions, while maintaining pro-scientific view. Rather, determinism lacks scientific and demonstrative bases. At first, I reject dualistic self by assuming identity theory of the self and physical body & brain. Free will is a functional concept or property that can have multiple realization. Therefore we can recognize whether aliens or robots have free will through observation on their acts. 'Free will' is a functional kinds term like 'digestion'. As we know we have digestive function, we can know that we have free will even before knowing the necessity of its existence by understanding micro structure of human free will. The judgement that an individual has free will function depends on whether it has particular actions. Those actions are controlling and restraining actions in context, predicting future, making elaborate conditional sentences, etc. Real being of free will is the physical occupant of the function that makes those actions. Determinism is based on various kinds of misconceptions and misunderstandings. Determinists often confuse necessity of physical law and determinism. Another decisive misunderstanding is that free will postulates same conditions and different results from the same point of time. However, free will postulates that the two points of time are different. Because determinism is unnecessary redundant hypothesis influenced by religions, according to Ockham's Razor, determinism should be eliminated.

  • Multichannel deep seismic reflection data in the Main Pass area of the northern Gulf of Mexico are interpreted in this study for the stratigraphy and the depositional history. Structural analysis of deep seismic reflection data provides new information on the locations of paleo-shelf margins and the basement. The basement occurs at about $7.5{\cal}km$ depth at the northern end of seismic line LSU-1 in the Mississippi shelf. The Jurassic and early Cretaceous shelf margins occupy approximately the same position, whereas the Oligocene shelf margin occurs about 28 km farther landward. Ten major seismic stratigraphic sequences are identified for the Mesozoic and Cenozoic sed-imentary section. Correlation of sequence boundaries defined in this study with those in other areas of the circum-Gulf region indicates that majo. regional unconformities formed at the mid-Miocene (10.5 Ma), mid-Oligocene (30 Ma), mid-Cretaceous (97 Ma), and top-Jurassic (131 Ma). Three distinct periods a.e recognized in the depositional history of the Main Pass area of the northern Gulf of Mexico: (1) shallow ma.me deposition du.ins the period from the opening of the Gulf to the mid-Cretaceous, (2) deep marine deposition in the Cretaceous to the mid-Oligocene, and (3) shallow marine deposition prevailed since the mid-Oligocene to present. A comparison of depositional rates between the Main Pass area and the Destin Dome area indicates that the northern Gulf of Mexico continental margin was initiated as a terrigenous sediment wedge province in the late Cretaceous.

  • This paper attempted to verify that Investigative Enterprising(IE) axis in the Holland hexagonal model can measure the internal and external job value. This study analyzed internal and external job values of 19 subjects who participated in the 150 Job cards classification test. The results of this study are as follows: First, the study group with Holland hexagonal model centered on the Investigative Enterprising type(IE) axis and artistic type(A) and social type(S) showed internal job value and supported the hypothesis. Second, the hypothesis that the group with the hexagonal model centered on the Investigative Enterprising(IE) axis and the bias toward the realistic type(R) and the conventional type(C) would pursue external job value was rejected. This is due to the Korean cultural context that pursues psycho-cultural value in Confucian culture. There is also a Holland hexagonal model that is not exactly distributed to the left of the Investigative Enterprising(IE) axis. Third, the group of amphibolic job value based on the Investigative Enterprising(IE) axis, and the Holland hexagonal model is expressed in artisic type(A), social type(S), realistic type(R), and conventional type(C) supported some hypotheses. This paper is the first to suggest that the Investigative Enterprising(IE) axis of the Holland hexagonal model can be used to measure job value, and the Holland hexagonal model can predict job value as well as career choice. This paper is intended to expand the foundation of the Holland theories, and to provide meaningful contribution to the basis for vocational studies.

  • Five electrical resistivity dipole-dipole and two seismic reflection surveys were performed in the southeastern margin of the Yongdong basin to delineate the shallow basin architecture. To investigate the intra-basin structure, twenty four resistivity sounding points and three dipole-dipole lines were selected especially in the vicinity of volcanic masses. The basin-fault boundaries are identified in electrical dipole-dipole resistivity section as high resistivity-contrast of approximately $1,500\;{\Omega}{\cdot}m$, characterized as a band of high standard-deviation. They are also effectively clarified in the seismic reflection data: amplitude and continuity contrasts in the common shot gather, first-arrival profiles, complex attribute plots. The intra-basin resistivity structures are constructed by interpolating vertical electrical sounding data and dipole-dipole profiles. The high-resistivity anomalies most likely originate from the northsouth-trending and northeast-dipping volcanic masses, which are to be further quantitatively investigated with geomagnetic and magnetotelluric surveys.

  • This paper presents a channel structure for promising high performance pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor(pHEMT) switching device for design and fabricating of microwave control circuits, such as switches, phase shifters, attenuators, limiters, for application in personal mobile communication systems. Using the designed epitaxial channel layer structure and ETRI's $0.5\mu$m pHEMT switch process, single pole double throw (SPDT) Tx/Rx monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) switch was fabricated for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band wireless local area network (WLAN) systems. The SPDT switch exhibits a low insertion loss of 0.849 dB, high isolation of 32.638 dB, return loss of 11.006 dB, power transfer capability of 25dBm, and 3rd order intercept point of 42dBm at frequency of 5.8GHz and control voltage of 0/-3V These performances are enough for an application to 5 GHz band WLAN systems.

  • The following are the results of this study, which examined changes in the size of the burial mounds of the 61 Joseon Dynasty royal tombs and the perception of the formative aesthetics of the burial mounds' elevations. First, the diameter of the burial mounds of the Joseon Dynasty royal tombs at the time of their construction was 7.08 to 10.78m. Among the three types of burial mounds, the formal burial mounds with a folding screen-like stonework were large, the burial mounds without stonework were mostly small, and the burial mounds with railing stone-like stonework varied in size. Second, the highly intensive management and repair activities from the Joseon Dynasty to today changed the size and shape of burial mounds. As a result, the size of the burial mounds is now 7.30 to 16.70m. Third, compared to the construction time, the diameters of most of the burial mounds with railing stone-like stonework and without stonework mostly increased. At the same time, there were cases where the diameter of the burial mounds with folding screen-like stonework decreased. Fourth, while the change in the height of the burial mounds with a folding screen-like stonework was small, that of the other two types was large, which is deemed to be in the same direction as the change in the burial mound diameter. Fifth, the perception of the ideal burial mound during the Joseon Dynasty was confirmed because the elevation of the burial mound described in 「Gaesu Dogam Uigwe (Renovation Office Protocol)」 is higher than the information recorded in numbers. Sixth, the Cultural Heritage Administration's managers chose more diverse burial mounds as ideal shapes than the expert group. The burial mounds most frequently selected by the Cultural Heritage Administration staff were lower in height than those selected by the expert group, showing a managerial tendency. In contrast, the expert group preferred the shape of the burial mounds with a high height and a rounded top.

  • Space law(or outer space law) and the law of the sea are branches of international law dealing with activities in geographical ares which do not or do only in part come under national sovereignty. Legal rules pertaining to the outer space and sea began to develop once activities emerged in those areas: amongst others, activities dealing with transportation, research, exploration, defense and exploitation. Naturally the law of the sea developed first, followed, early in the twentieth century, by air law, and later in the century by space law. Obviously the law of the sea, of the air and of outer space influence each other. Ideas have been borrowed from one field and applied to another. This article examines some analogies and differences between the outer space law and the law of the sea, especially from the perspective of the legal status, the exploration and exploitation of the natural resources and environment. As far as the comparisons of the legal status between the outer space and high seas are concerned the two areas are res extra commercium. The latter is res extra commercium based on both the customary international law and treaty, however, the former is different respectively according to the customary law and treaty. Under international customary law, whilst outer space constitutes res extra commercium, celestial bodies are res nullius. However as among contracting States of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, both outer space and celestial bodies are declared res extra commercium. As for the comparisons of the exploration and exploitation of natural resources between the Moon including other celestial bodies in 1979 Moon Agreement and the deep sea bed in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the both areas are the common heritage of mankind. The latter gives us very systematic models such as International Sea-bed Authority, however, the international regime for the former will be established as the exploitation of the natural resources of the celestial bodies other than the Earth is about to become feasible. Thus Moon Agreement could not impose a moratorium, but would merely permit orderly attempts to establish that such exploitation was in fact feasible and practicable, by allowing experimental beginnings and thereafter pilot operations. As Professor Carl Christol said until the parties of the Moon Agreement were able to put into operation the legal regime for the equitable sharing of benefits, they would remain free to disregard the Common Heritage of Mankind principle. Parties to one or both of the agreements would retain jurisdiction over national space activities. In so far as the comparisons of the protection of the environment between the outer space and sea is concerned the legal instruments for the latter are more systematically developed than the former. In the case of the former there are growing tendencies of concerning the environmental threats arising from space activities these days. There is no separate legal instrument to deal with those problems.

  • Deep geological cross-sectional data is generally not common nor easy to construct, because it is expensive and requires a great deal of time. As a result, geological interpretations at depth are limited. Many scientists attempt to construct geological cross-sections at depth using geological surface data and geophysical data. In this paper, we suggest a method for constructing cross-sections from limited geological surface data in a target area. The reason for this study is to construct and interpret geological cros-sections at depth to evaluate heat flow anomaly along the Yangsan fault. The Yangsan Fault passes through the south-eastern part of the Korean Peninsula. The cross-section is constructed from Sangbukmyeon to Unchonmyeon passing perpendicularly through the Yangsan Fault System trending NW-SE direction. The geological cross-section is constructed using the following data: (1) Lithologic distributions and main structural elements. (2) Extensity of sedimentary rock and igneous rock, from field mapping. (3) Fault dimension calculated based on geometry of exposed surface rupture, and (4) Seismic and core logging data. The Yangsan Fault System is composed of the Jain fault, Milyang fault, Moryang fault, Yangsan fault, Dongnae fault, and Ingwang fault which strike NNE-SSW. According to field observation, the western section of the Yangsan fault bounded by igneous rocks and in the eastern section sedimentary rocks are dominant. Using surface fault length we infer that the Yangsan Fault System has developed to a depth of kilometers beneath the surface. According to seismic data, sedimentary rocks that are adjacent to the Yangsan fault are thin and getting thicker towards the east of the section. In this study we also suggest a new method to recognize faults using core loggings. This analysis could be used to estimate fault locations at different scales.

  • This paper investigates Buddhist sculptures of the Gulsan-sa School of Seon Buddhism, which was established by the priest Beomil(梵日) at Myeongju(溟州), present-day Gangneung(江陵) area, and prospered until the late Goryeo period. There are very few surviving Buddhist images at Gulsan2 temple-site showing the Buddhist art when Beomil or his disciples, Gaecheong(開淸) and Haengjeok(行寂), were active, except a set of huge stone pillars for temple-banners and a stone monk stupa. It is therefore necessary to focus on pieces of artworks in Gangneung and nearby areas to explore the characteristics of Buddhist art of Gulsan-sa from the late Silla to early Goryeo period. For example, the stone relief seated Buddha image, one of Four Buddhas of Four Directions, and a stone relief of standing Guardian King both from the stone pagoda at Mujin temple-site(無盡寺址) can be compared with stupa reliefs at the capital Gyeongju area in their high quality of carving. The stone octagonal base showing seven lions on each of seven sides at Boheon-sa(普賢寺) demonstrates that it was made as a part of an octagonal lotus pedestal for a Vairocana Buddha now lost. Since Boheon-sa was erected by Gaechung, a disciple of Beomil as a branch of Gulsan-sa, it is fair to assume that the Vairocana image at Boheon-sa might have been closely related to the Buddhist images at Gulsan-sa in its style and iconography. The stone seated Bodhisattva from Hansong temple-site(寒松寺址) displays a benign face, exquisite necklace, and exotic iconography in its hand gesture and high cylindrical crown. The stone seated Buddha at Cheonghak-sa(靑鶴寺), brought from a temple-site where fragments of roof-tiles with the inscription of Heukam-sa(黑岩寺) were discovered, displays the late Silla and early Goryeo period. Heukam-sa seems to have been related to Gulsan-sa or have been one of the branches of Gulsan-sa. Extant fragments of artworks at Myeongju implicate the high quality of Buddhist art of Gulsan-sa in its iconography and style as well as unique features of Gulsan-sa Seon School.
