Optimization of the Number of Active Antennas for Energy-Efficiency in the MIMO Broadcast Channel (다중 사용자 다중 안테나 하향링크 채널에서 에너지 효율 향상을 위한 기지국 활성 안테나 수 최적화 기법)

  • We introduce a number of antenna optimization problem for the zero-forcing beamforming (ZFBF) scheme to enhance energy-efficiency (EE) of the multiple-input-multiple-output broadcast channel. For proposed optimization problem, we assume an instantaneous channel gain of the ZFBF scheme as an average channel gain, given by $N_a-K+1$, in order to reduce a computational complexity of finding the number of active antennas $N_a$. Then, we convert a fractional-form objective function into a subtractive-form, and find a solution of $N_a$ and the maximum EE by an iterative process. Simulation results show that the maximum EE value obtained by proposed algorithm is almost identical to the optimal EE value by the exhaustive search method.

  • When we apply the spectrally efficient quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) to mobile communications, it is necessary to estimate and compensate the channel charac- teristics. In this paper, a new type fading estimation method for PSAM using sinc function is presented. Gaussian interpolation method has a drawback that the performance degrades rapidly if pilot symbol period increases even though pilot sysbol period is less than Nyquist sampling rate. The Wiener filter method does not degrade until pilot symbol period is equal to the Nyquist sampling rate. It is difficult for Wiener filter method to be applied to real system because autocorrelation function of channel gain, Doppler frequency and SNR(signal to noise ratio) must be known to optimize the filter coefficients. But proposed method has a similar performance to the Wiener filter method, and does not need to know the autocorrelation function of channel gain, the doppler frequency and SNR. Therefore the proposed method cna be applied to real system easily.

  • For regulating generator speed above the rated wind, versatile methods have been published based on PID. However, these methods with the fixed PID gains could not guarantee that the controller works well in the whole area. In this paper, variable PID gain method has been suggested to overcome this problem. The sensitivity of power to blade pitch angle changes according to wind speed. The variable PID gain function has been derived from this sensitivity.

  • PID controllers, which have been widely used in industry, have a simple structure and robustness to modeling error. But They we difficult to have uniformly good control performance in system parameters variation or different velocity command. In this paper, we propose a nonlinear adaptive PID controller based on a cell-mediated immune response and a gradient descent learning. This algorithm has a simple structure and robustness to system parameters variation. To verify performances of the proposed nonlinear adaptive PID controller, the speed control of nonlinear DC motor is performed. The simulation results show that the proposed control systems are effective in tracking a command velocity under system parameters variation.

Characteristics of Radiation Pattern and Power Gain for Circular Array Dipole Antennas (원형 배열 다이폴 안테나의 방사 지향성 및 이득 특성)

  • This paper presents the basic characteristics of a 5 element dipole array antenna which has a four parastic element and one driving element at the center of the circular array. The coupled integral equations for the unknown current distributions on dipole elements are derived and solved by applying Galerkin's method of moments. The numerical results show that the highest power gain of 7.8 dBi is obtained at radius of d = 0.3lλ when two short circuited parastic element neighbors. In order to verify the theoretical analysis, the radiation pattern is compared with Preston's results.

  • The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) is under development to provide a monitoring of ocean-color around the Korean Peninsula from geostationary platforms. It is planned to be loaded on Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) of Korea. In this study, the radiometric model of GOCI, which is constructed based on the functional model of sub-system, is introduced. Non-linearity for each channel is analyzed in terms of linear gain and nonlinear gain by using the radiometric model. The non-linearity characteristic is validated by using test data which have been achieved during ground test at payload level. The non-linearity $G^3$/b shows identical characteristic for all channels.

  • In constructing fuzzy control systems. there are many parameters such as rule base. membership functions. inference m method. defuzzification. and I/O scaling factors. To control the system in properly using fuzzy logic. we have to consider t the correlation with those parameters. This paper deals with self-tuning of fuzzy control systems. The fuzzy controller h has parameters that are input and output scaling factors to effect control output. And we propose the looklongleftarrowup table b based self-tuning fuzy controller. We propose the PMTM(Plus-Minus Tuning Method) for self tuning method, self-tuning the initial look-up table to the appropriate table by adding and subtracting the values.

  • Using the steady state gains, an appropriate criterion used for the interaction analysis among variables and the loop pairing is suggested. Based upon the suggested criterion derived from the derivative relation of implicit function, the SISO pairing which has minimum interaction among control system variables and good control performance can be determined. The relative effect among diagonal gains and off-diagona gains, which was not considered in other criteria, can be explained deterministically Also, the criterion can be easily applied to partial MIMO pairing. This criterion was applied to several examples to illustrate its usefulness in finding the feasible SISO pairing and MIMO pairing

  • We examine the performance of a Raman amplifier as a function of fiber structure with respect to amplifier gain and double Rayleigh crosstalk penalty. Variations on fiber core radius or index affect both the Raman gain efficiency and Rayleigh backscattering. Contrary to the common concept, the penalty from the doubly amplified Rayleigh scattering could exceed the benefits of higher gain efficiency of small effective area fibers. Appropriate fiber designing parameters are required to increase Raman amplifier efficiency without system penalties. lties.
