  • A Discourse Analysis tool has been developed and has been applied in the cooperative group inquiry activities in order to derive the characteristics of elementary gifted students in science. We recorded and videotaped the whole group problem-solving processes where 4 elementary students worked together to solve given problems as a group for one year in a gifted education center attached to a university in Seoul. We analyzed recorded discourses using systemic functional linguistics with a focus on the structure of information and topic. The discourse analysis tool was developed with the cooperation of science education and gifted education experts. In discourse analysis, we focused on meaning development processes rather than grammatical analysis. Through application of newly developed discourse analysis tool, we confirmed that the tool is useful in understanding the characteristics of science-gifted elementary students. We also founded that the interaction between students has significant effects on problem-solving processes by comparing two students who showed contradictory features in the share of dialogue. In addition, the result suggested that we need to provide students with proper training for ways to communicate with others for effective science-gifted instruction.

  • The aim of this study is to consider the possibility of learning polite expressions of English using the mobile application Naver Band. To improve communicative competence, students need to develop sociolinguistic competence as well as grammatical and discourse competence. To be accordant to social context, the roles of the participants, and the purpose of the interaction, students have to make an appropriate utterance. When a hearer has a higher social status and is older than a speaker, or have low levels of familiarity, Korean native speaker tends to use polite expressions. Students need to learn polite expressions of English because English has a different honorific system from Korean. To realize the characteristics and function of polite language is one thing, but to learn it in a real classroom is another. This study attempts to apply the use of a mobile application, which is considered a user-friendly tool for students, into learning polite language using the UK historical drama, Downton Abbey. Two tests were administered to an experimental group that used the mobile application and a control group that used group work. The results of the two tests show that the use of the mobile application has a positive effect on learning polite expressions and is effective as an after-school activity. In an open-ended questionnaire, students tend to identify polite expressions as superior or high-level language forms and separate these forms from practical expressions. It should be noted as well that teachers need to consider instructing in modern English when using a historical drama in the teaching and learning of polite expressions.

For this intensive interview were used. Intensive interviews were made with 14 HE teachers who completed coursework for master's or doctor's program of graduate school and belong to HE Teachers' Study Associations of each region or Korean Home Economics Education Association and analyzed by subject analysis method. The results of the study are as follows. First, HE teachers establish the philosophy of HE education, and practice education to provide profit to adolescents, their families, as well as society through HE class with their belief that HE is a practical and critical subject to benefit individual adolescents, families, and society. Second, HE teachers form culture to make an effort to continue to improve their expertises by attending graduate school, joining HE teachers' associations to enhance teaching methods, evaluation methods, and work ability or disclosing their own class. Third, HE teachers settle culture to conduct classes focusing on practical issues by converting the paradigm of HE education to that of practical critique. They also see that the system of three actions(technical action, communicative action, and emancipative action) should be applied in circulating ways to improve quality and value of life. Forth, for impeding factors of development of HE education, there are educational system and social recognition. However, with HE teachers' efforts, HE education settles well, as it reflects demands from students and society, finds students' talents, and actualizes its own goals. HE teachers believe that student will recognize that HE education is necessary for happiness of individuals and families. As a way to develop Home Economics teacher culture, Home Economics teachers should have the opportunity to develop more Home Economics teachers by participating in and working in research sessions in each area. It also called for a control tower to enable and lead collaborative networks between local Home Economics curriculum research committees. • Though the education of culture and art for disabled children is very important, it has not been brisk yet until recently due to 'absence of the teaching methods suitable for disability types, levels and programs.'. In this situation, cartoon contents can be used as the most appropriate tools for culture and art education for mentally retarded children. Entertainment functions and genre features of cartoon contents can motivate the applicable children to participate more voluntarily and positively and function as teaching tools for interesting activities. Of course, since it is not proper to apply the cartoon contents for normal children to Special Education Field as they are, cartoon works should be made by understanding closely the characteristics and degrees of retardation of the applicable children and applying them to the composition of cartoons. However, for the contribution of this attempt to education field, it is thought that concrete guidelines for producing cartoon contents considering the concept of various types of disability, emotion, social behavioral traits, ability of cognition, school achievements, and the characteristics of language and physical health should be necessary, and to improve the application of the developed cartoon contents so that they will not remain as superficial results, sufficient communication with the applicable children such as application to classes in the process of development is necessary.

  • This paper presents several reasons for the necessity of archaeological hands-on training and strategies for its implementation. First, it is necessary to produce a specialized manual for local cultural heritage education that can enhance the specialization and educational effectiveness of archaeological experience education. In addition, in order to secure professionalism in hands-on education and conduct it systematically, the ability of instructors to conduct education is important, so instructor competence reinforcement education needs to be conducted regularly. In addition, hands-on education needs a strategy of planning and content development of archaeological education programs, with consideration given to the subjects of learning, and the establishment of a cooperative network. It is time to cooperate with various experts to establish an education system necessary for cultural heritage education in the region and develop customized content for local archaeological heritage supplementary textbooks. Finally, due to Covid-19, we agonized over effective education plans for online archaeological heritage education, which requires active interaction class design and a strategy to promote interaction between professors and learners. In addition, such archaeological heritage education should be compatible with the goal of providing customized lifelong education.
