  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the clothing and cosmetics purchasing behaviors of middle aged male consumers according to objectified body consciousness. The subjects were 329 male adults aged from 40 to 59, and measuring instruments consisted of objectified body consciousness, clothing and cosmetics purchasing behaviors, and subjects' demographics attributions. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, multiple response analysis, cross tabs analysis, and $x^2$ test using the SPSS program. The results were as follows. First, three factors (body shame, body surveillance, and control belief) emerged on objectified body consciousness. Second, subjects were divided into 2 groups (objectified group and non-objectified group) by objectified body consciousness. Third, these two consumer groups showed many differences regarding clothing and cosmetics purchasing behaviors. The objectified group showed many more positive clothing and cosmetics purchasing behaviors than the non-objectified group in terms of purchase motives, selection criteria, information source, purchase place, and purchase cost per month. These results show that objectified body consciousness is a useful variable for understanding adult male clothing and cosmetics purchasing behavior and to segment the male consumer market effectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe 20's to 30's men's fashion lifestyle and develop clusters in grooming related variables. We also tried to interpret profile of clusters, and determine the difference between different level of grooming clusters in appearance care behaviors, and clothing behaviors such as clothing selection, preference of clothing image and design in men's wear. Data was obtained using the survey methods by convenience sampling. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, chi-square test, and t-test were used for analysis using SPSS 18.0. The result of factor analysis of men's lifestyle show that 5 factors are extracted. Two different clusters were formed after the K-means cluster analysis. We realized that the level of grooming activity is significantly associated with the young men's major expenditure item, and beauty/care items, and the reason for exercise. The level of grooming was strongly associated with clothing selection behaviors. In addition, there is a significant difference in preferred image between two different grooming groups. In the feminine image, HG group favored more than LG group. The preferred design was associated with the degree of grooming as well. Unique and stylish top and bottom styles such as cargo, hiphop, and boots cut were favored more by HG group than LG group. We suggest that we can do market segmentation by the degree of the grooming activity, considering the current men's taste and trend to extend market share.

  • The main purposes of this study is to evaluate clothing behaviors according to cosmetic surgery parts and to research how the clothing style preference is expressed depending on each clothing behavior group. This study focuses on women in their 20s and 30s living in Seoul and Gyeonggi area whom have cosmetic surgery experiences. From the women being evaluated, the following groups are divided and then surveyed with equal frequency and ratio: 'facial surgery', 'face contour surgery', 'breast surgery', and 'body figure revision'. When comparing the changes in clothing style preferences before and after the cosmetic surgery, they prefer silhouettes which show body shapes, diversity of color tones, and more overall exposing preferences. After investigating the preferred clothing styles based on cosmetic surgery parts, it is being analyzed that body exposure is more aggressively expressed upon after taking the surgery because the self satisfaction is increased according to the changes in their body shapes after the surgery. Lastly, after looking into the cosmetic surgery and the clothing preferences styles of each clothing behavior group, there seems to be more breast surgeries and body figure revisions for aggressive and extroverted characters: the sex-appeal and mood switching type. It is also being analyzed that facial surgeries are more common in the passive group: information collection, trend alignment, and beauty preference. Such results are also reflected in clothing preferences styles: the biggest change is shown in the aggressive and extroverted group, the sex-appeal types.

The questionnaire consisted of 4 measurement instruments (gender-role identity, self-esteem, clothing behaviors, and favorite clothing image) and subject' demographic attributions. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, $X^2$ test, t-test, ANOVA(analysis of variance), Duncan's multiple range test, and Pearson's correlation analysis, using SPSS program. The results are as follows. First, adolescents' gender-role identity and self- esteem were different by age rather than sex. Middle school students were represented by undifferentiated type while high school students were represented by androgynous type, and high school students had higher self-esteem than middle school students. • This study aims to investigate the relationship between consumers’ clothing consumption values, demographic features, and clothing disposal behaviors. The data were collected from 300 women aged between 20 and 59 through the online survey with the self-administered questionnaire. A series of exploratory and confirmative factor analysis was conducted to identify the dimensions of clothing consumption values and clothing disposition behaviors. Clothing consumption values consisted of six dimensions including conditional value, individuality value, fashion value, social value, practical value, and self-expression value. Clothing disposition behaviors were discovered as four dimensions such as discarding, giving, selling, and donating. A structural equation modeling analysis was employed to examine the relationship between clothing consumption values and disposition behaviors. While individuality value, fashion value, and practical value had a significantly positive impact on donating, giving, and discarding behaviors, both practical value and self-expression value negatively influenced discarding behavior. Fashion value negatively affected giving behavior. Employing a series of MANOVA, one-way ANOVA and sheffe's multiple range test, this study found that there were significant effects of age, marital status, monthly income, and monthly clothing expenses on giving and donating behaviors. This study suggests that fashion firms should be aware of clothing disposition in terms of social and environmental concerns and understand diverse consumer disposal behaviors and utilize them as a social marketing strategy.
