In this study, a wireless and non-power SAW (surface acoustic wave) temperature sensor was developed. The single inter-digital transducer (IDT) of SAW temperature sensor of which resonance frequency is 434 MHz was fabricated on $128^{\circ}$ rot-X $LiNbO_3$ piezoelectric substrate by semiconductor processing technology. To find optimal acoustic reflector for SAW temperature sensor, various kinds of acoustic reflectors were fabricated and their reflection characteristics were analyzed. The IDT type acoustic reflector showed better reflection characteristic than other reflectors. The wireless temperature sensing system consisting of SAW temperature sensor with dipole antenna and a microprocessor based control circuit with dipole antenna for transmitting signal to activate the SAW temperature sensor and receiving the signal from SAW temperature sensor was developed. The result with wireless SAW temperature sensing system showed that the frequency of SAW temperature sensor was linearly decreased with the increase of temperature in the range of 40 to $80^{\circ}C$ and the developed wireless SAW temperature sensing system showed the excellent performance with the coefficient of determination of 0.99.
In this paper, all the materials constants of the PMN-32%PT single crystals grown by the solid state crystal growth method were measured by the resonance method. PMN-PT crystals of tetragonal symmetry have six elastic constants, three piezoelectric constants and two dielectric constants for their independent material constants. These materials constants were extracted from six sets of crystal samples of each different geometry to have different vibration modes respectively. Measured results showed that the crystal has larger electromechanical coupling factor k/sub 33/ (∼86%) and piezoelectric constant d/sub 33/ (∼1200pC/N) than conventional piezoceramics. Validity of the measurement was confirmed through comparison of the results with the impedance spectrum from finite element analysis of the samples and the results measured with a commercial do meter.
The temperature dependence of the characteristics in a PZT-5 piezoelectric ceramic vibrator with the transverse mode was investigated in the range of $-100^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$ using a thermal vacuum chamber to utilize the vibrator in aerospace industries. As the results, at room temperature, the resonant and anti-resonant frequencies had the minimum value, whereas, the dielectric constant increased linearly from about 2500 to 7500 in the given temperature range. The mechanical loss decreased linearly from 0.08 to 0.03. Through the regression analysis, the temperature dependence functions of the characteristics were derived to linear and square regression functions. Applying the functions, the input admittance characteristics of the piezoelectric vibrator were calculated, and the results showed good agreement with measured ones. It can be confirmed that this method is useful to estimate the characteristics change of the piezoelectric vibrator caused by the temperature change under the space environment.
A numerical analysis is carried out for the nonlinear phenomena of the bubble oscillator. The model is based on the Keller's formulation for the bubble dynamics. Interpretation of the bubble interior is based on the formulation by Prosperetti. His formulation adopts the energy equation for the analysis of the bubble interior. The numerical simulation Shows typical nonlinear phenomena in its frequency response. Among such nonlinear aspects are the jump phenomenon, the shift of natural frequency of the system, and the appearance of superharmonic resonances. It is deduced that the nonlinear frequency response is dependent upon the initial condition of the bubble oscillator and some multi-valued frequency region can appear in the response curve. Nonlinear phenomena appeared in the bubble oscillator is compared with those of the Duffing equation and it may be said that the bubble dynamic equation has similar nonlinear aspects to the Duffing equation.
In this paper, we designed the acoustic horn for magnetostrictive ultrasonic transducers in a theoretical manner, and validity of the analysis was verified through comparison with the results of finite element analysis. Results of the two analysis methods showed good agreement with each other. The theoretical method can fairly quickly determine the horn length that satisfies given frequency specification, but also has the drawback that it is applicable only to the frequency range over the cut-off frequency. According to the results, the catenoidal horn can provide larger amplification than the exponential horn. It was also found that it is more desirable for the region having the catenoidal curvature to be as short as possible to achieve larger amplification of the transducer deformation. Based on the analysis results, a magneto-strictive transducer sample was fabricated and its performance was evaluated experimentally. The transducer has the resonance frequency of 19.3 ㎑ as well as the maximum SPL of 199 dB, and shows the omni-directional radiation pattern.
In this paper, the structure-borne noise reduction on electrical equipment is discussed by the experimental analysis. The water cooling system in electrical equipment is the only noise source, so the mock-up was made to measure noise characteristics. Effects of power supply, stiffness, isolation of noise source and natural frequency determined by resilient mounts are investigated using the mock-up. The console prototype was made referring to noise reduction technique by the mock-up. The structure-borne noise level of a console prototype was measured and some experiments to reduce the noise was undertaken. The $1^{st}$ and $4^{th}$ harmonics of operating frequency of cooling fans causes highest structure-borne noise levels. The control of operating speeds of several DC cooling fan groups was tried. Also types and installation layouts of resilient mounts were investigated. To reduce structure-borne noise, followings can be applied: increase of stiffness, isolation of source, decrease of natural frequency of mount, combination of operating speed of fans, selection of mounts, and so on.

In the present work, a sensor system composed of an oscillator sensor and a Lamb wave sensor is proposed for the purpose of structural health monitoring. The oscillator sensing system detecting the shift of a structural resonant frequency in proportion to the amount of defects in the structure is a pretty sensitive and simple device, but its detectable range is limited to its local zone. The Lamb wave sensor system, however, is applicable to global detection of the defects. This study is aimed at investigating the feasible combination of the two systems to exploits their merits simultaneously. The scheme to use PZT patches as the oscillator sensor as well as the Lamb wave sensor was proposed to identify the position, length and number of cracks by means of TOF and amplitude of signals, and its validity was confirmed through experiments.
In this paper, the thermoacoustic refrigerating system was implemented and its operation was experimentally verified. The system is composed of several parts ,4 inch midrange speaker, speaker housing, chamber, stack housing, stack of plates, heat exchangers, thin pipe and cavity. The system is filled with He gas at 10 bar and contains T-type thermocouples and condenser microphone for measuring the temperature and pressure inside, respectively. In addition, cooling water is used for protecting speaker from thermal destruction and cooling down the hot heat exchanger. For the experimental verification of the implemented refigerating system, electrical impedance and resonance characteristics were measured. The results showed that it was most efficient to drive the system at 340 Hz. When operated at 340 Hz, $30^\circ{C}$ environments and 50 electical watts, the temperature of the cold region decreased by $16^\circ{C}$. The dissatisfaction mainly comes from the incomplete thermal insulation of the cold region. We also pointed out some guidelines to improve the performance for later study.

A cooling mechanism using acoustic streaming by ultrasonic vibrations and associated convective heat transfer enhancement is investigated experimentally and analytically. Acoustic streaming pattern and associated heat transfer characteristics are presented. Analytical transient temperature profile of the heated plate following Nyborgs theory is accomplished along with experimental measurement. A temperature drop of 30 C is obtained in 4 minutes with vibration amplitude of 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. As the vibration amplitude is further increased to 25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ a temperature drop of 40 C is achieved that is the maximum temperature drop obtained with the current experimental apparatus. Analytical heat transfer solutions verified a temperature drop of 4$0^{\circ}C$ with a vibration amplitude of 25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ at 28.4 kHz which is experimentally obtained.
This paper demonstrates the digital communication in air using the parametric array. The stepped-plate transducer which is suitable for high-power and high-efficient radiation is used to generate the difference frequency wave with the parametric array. The primary frequencies are selected to 83 kHz and 122 kHz and the resulting difference frequency wave at the frequency of 39 kHz is used for the communication. The modulation method is selected to On-Off Keying method. The waveform and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is measured and analyzed to see the characteristics of the digital communication using the parametric array. The proper distance for the communication using parametric array is about 3 m. The measured beam width of the 3dB SNR reduction was $14^{\circ}$. The possibility of the communication in air using the parametric array is confirmed and the high directional characteristic of the communication using the parametric array is expected to have the advantages for the multi path and the security problems.
