  • This study deals with the traffic accidents at the 4-legged signalized intersections in Cheong-ju. The purpose is to comparatively analyze the characteristics and models by the accident type using the data of 143 intersections. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular emphasis to modeling such the accidents as head on collision, rear end collision, side swipe, side right angle collision, and others. The main results are the followings. First, the overdispersion tests show that the negative binomial regression models are appropriate to the traffic accident data in the above contexts. Second, five accident models are developed, which are all analyzed to be statistically significant. Finally, the models are comparatively evaluated using the common variable(ADT) and type-specific variables.

  • This study aims to find the best model to fit the number of insurance solicitor's turnovers of life insurance companies using count data regression models such as poisson regression, negative binomial regression, zero-inflated poisson regression, or zero-inflated negative binomial regression. Out of the four models, zero-inflated negative binomial model has been selected based on AIC and SBC criteria, which is due to over-dispersion and high proportion of zero-counts. The significant factors to affect insurance solicitor's turnover found to be a work period in current company, a total work period as financial planner, an affiliated corporation, and channel management satisfaction. We also have found that as the job satisfaction or the channel management satisfaction gets lower as channel management satisfaction, the number of insurance solicitor's turnovers increases. In addition, the total work period as financial planner has positive relationship with the number of insurance solicitor's turnovers, but the work period in current company has negative relationship with it.

  • This study deals with the traffic accidents by type. The objectives are to analyze the characteristics of 2 accident types, and to develop the models by type. In pursuing the above, this paper gives particular attentions to testing the differences between by type two groups, and developing the models (Poisson and negative binomial regressions) using the data of domestic circular intersections. The main results are as follows. First, the number of accidents in vehicle vehicle was analyzed to account for about 73.41% of total and to be higher than vehicle people. Second, two Poisson models and two negative binomial models which were all statistically significant were developed using vehicle people accidents and vehicle vehicle accidents as dependant variables. Finally, the traffic volume as common variable was selected in the models, and right-turn slip lane, speed hump, the number of driveways, the number of pedestrian crossings as specific variables of the models were selected.

  • In this paper, several count data model of travel cost recreation demand with Poisson and negative binominal specification are applied to estimate the value of access to the estuary area of Yeongsan river from visitor survey data. The results show that the negative binomial model that accounts for truncation and overdispersion provides the better goodness-of-fit, and therefore the value per visit(i.e. consumer surplus) is 89,350 won for resident of Jeolla province and 432,526 won for that of other provinces. If don't correct overdispersion by relying on Poisson estimates, the consumer surplus will be underestimated. Whereas the consumer surplus will be overestimated unless correct truncation by using estimates of untruncated models. As a result, the truncated negative binomial model should be applied to estimate the travel demand and the consumer surplus per visit by using survey data from single site visitors.

  • In this paper, we propose a Bayesian inference using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo(MCMC) method for the zero inflated negative binomial(ZINB) regression model. The proposed model allows the regression model for zero inflation probability as well as the regression model for the mean of the dependent variable. This extends the work of Jang et al. (2010) to the fully defiend ZINB regression model. In addition, we apply the proposed method to a real data example, and compare the efficiency with the zero inflated Poisson model using the DIC. Since the DIC of the ZINB is smaller than that of the ZIP, the ZINB model shows superior performance over the ZIP model in zero inflated count data with overdispersion.

  • In recent years, it has become technically easier to explain factors related with traffic accidents in the Big Data era. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the latest analysis techniques to analyze the traffic accident data and to seek for new findings. The purpose of this study is to compare the predictive performance of the negative binomial regression model and the deep learning method developed in this study to predict the frequency of traffic accidents in expressways. As a result, the MOEs of the deep learning model are somewhat superior to those of the negative binomial regression model in terms of prediction performance. However, using a deep learning model could increase the predictive reliability. However, it is easy to add other independent variables when using deep learning, and it can be expected to increase the predictive reliability even if the model structure is changed.

  • The aim of this study is to specifically understand the characteristics of the crime by empirical analysis for the determining factors that affect determining the crime through the space syntax in Busan. In this study, poisson regression and negative binomial regression were used for accurate analysis. 8 variables that were significant of the total 13 variables. The summary if this study based on the results is as follow. Statistically significant variables are female ratio, over 65 population ratio, administration are and commercial area ratio in characteristics. And the more CCTVs a region has, the lower crime rate it shows. As a results of examing whether space syntax variables can predict crime occurrence places. Space with low connectivity come to be a crime causal factor because they have few other related spaces and thereby have low possibility of sudden appearance of interrupters, which results in low surveillance levels of foot passengers. It will provide the basic data that can contribute to urban planning and implementation of crime prevention aspects.

  • In this paper, we proposed a generalized bivariate negative binomial distribution allowing heterogeneous dispersions on two dependent variables based on a trivariate reduction technique. In this model, we propose the score and LR tests for testing the equality of dispersions and compare the efficiencies of the proposed tests using a Monte Carlo study. The Monte Carlo study shows that the proposed score and LR tests prove to be an efficient test for the equality of dispersions in the view of the significance level and power. However, the score test is easier to compute than the LR test and it shows a slightly better performance than the LR test from the Monte Carlo study, we suggest the use of score tests for testing the equality of dispersions on two dependent variables. In addition, an empirical example is provided to illustrate the results.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the economic value of the Kumjung Mountain, using a Individual Travel Cost Model(ITCM). This paper compares Poisson and negative binomial count data models to measure the tourism demands. Interviewers were instructed to interview only individuals. So the sample was taken in 700. A dependent variable that is defined on the non-negative integers and subject to sampling truncation is the result of a truncated count data process. The results suggest that the truncated negative binomial model is improved overdispersion problem and more preferred than the other models in the study. This study emphasizes in particular 'travel cost' that is not only monetary cost but also including opportunity cost of 'travel time'. According to the truncated negative binomial model, estimates the Consumer Surplus(CS) values per trip of about 60,669 Korean won and the total economic value was estimated to be 252,383 Korean won.

  • In this study, accident frequency prediction models were constructed by collecting variables such as geometric structures, safety facilities, traffic volume and weather conditions, land use, highway design-satisfaction criteria along 780km (4,372 sections) of 4 lane-highways over 8 areas. As for models, a fixed parameter model and a random parameter model were employed. In the random parameter model, some influences were reversed as the range was expressed based on specific probability in the case of no fixed coefficients. In the fixed parameter model, the influences of independent variables on accident frequency were interpreted by using one coefficient, but in the random parameter model, more various interpretations were took place. In particular, curve radius, securement of shoulder lane, vertical grade design criteria satisfaction showed both positive and negative influence, according to specific probability. This means that there could be a reverse effect depending on the behavioral characteristics of drivers and the characteristics of highway sections. Rather, they influence the increase of accident frequency through the all sections.
