Contents Analysis of Basic Software Education of Non-majors Students for Problem Solving Ability Improvement - Focus on SW-oriented University in Korea - (문제해결력 향상을 위한 비전공자 소프트웨어 기초교육 내용 분석 - 국내 SW중심대학 중심으로 -)

  • Since 2015, the government has been striving to strengthen the software capabilities required for future talent through software-oriented university in Korea. In the university selected as a software-oriented university, basic software education is given to all departments such as humanities, social science, engineering, natural science, arts and the sports within the university in order to foster convergent human resources with different knowledge and software literacy. In this paper, we analyze the contents of basic software education for twenty universities selected as software-oriented universities. As a result of analysis, most of the basic software education which is carried out to the students of the non-majors students was aimed at improvement of problem solving ability centered on computational thinking for future society and improvement of convergence ability based on computer science. It uses block-based educational programming language and text-based advanced programming language to adjust the difficulty of programming contents and contents reflecting characteristics of each major. Problem-based learning, project-based learning, and discussion method were used as the teaching and learning methods for problem solving. In the future, this paper will help to establish the systematic direction for basic software education of non-majors students.

Educational Effects of Collaborative Story Creation Activities Using the Entry Programming Language (엔트리 프로그래밍 언어를 활용한 협력적 이야기 생성하기 활동의 교육적 효과)

  • To determine the educational effects of collaborative story creation activities using the Entry programming language, we instructed first year students at the national university of education on these activities for three weeks and analyzed the changes in their software (SW) education capacity and story creating ability. The completed analysis showed no significant changes in the students' SW education capacity as related to information literacy, computational thinking, and learner competency; however, the students' ability to create stories increased significantly. Although students struggled to learn story creation using Entry, they gradually found that the activities were useful and their interest in creating stories grew. Therefore, we suggest expanding the number of subject curriculum activities using Entry in order to improve SW education capacity as well as the subject capacity for student teachers.

Development of Convergence Education Program Based on 3D Panorama Virtual Fieldwork Courses on Water Spider in Eundaeri (은대리 물거미 서식지의 3D 파노라마 가상야외학습장 융합교육 프로그램 개발)

  • This study used Natural Monument water spiders and their habitats as educational contents, so those students could have a scientific literacy and the beautiful memories of Eundaeri's marshes through developing a virtual fieldwork courses (VFC) and observing the ecology of water spiders. In order to develop the program, the 2015 revised national curriculum and its textbooks were analyzed. In accordance with the STEAM model, we developed teaching-learning materials for 7 classes. Students produced 3D panorama virtual fieldwork courses (PVFC) about water spider by team-based cooperative learning, enabling them to emotionally experience the meaning and value of water spiders. A panel of six education experts verified the validity of the program and found it to be fairly valid at 4.24 (CVI = .88) on the 5-point Likert scale. In order to confirm the suitability of the program, students in the middle school science clubs participated in pilot testing camp. Their average classes satisfaction was 4.24 and students were very satisfied with the usefulness of the program, the fresh learning contents, and the suitability of the convergence education class. This study could contribute to convergence education related to ecology and virtual reality for adolescents.

Development and Application of Elementary Information Security Education STEAM Program through Simulation Hacking Play Activities (모의해킹 놀이 활동을 통한 초등 정보보호교육 STEAM 프로그램 개발 및 적용)

  • The new STEAM program suggested in this paper aims at helping students to have interest in information security engineering experts and to design their career creatively through the project on future promising career. The program was designed to help teachers and students understand the jobs and capabilities required for information security experts through direction and execution of the information security expert project. Teaching tools of information security through simulation hacking play activities based on hexagon cell is designed to provide students with the chance to indirectly experience the job of a computer security expert through an unplugged education. Because the content of cyber security is unfamiliar and difficult to understand, the program is designed to allow students to access the key principle of the job, rather than to describe the technical part. Using this program, students will be able to communicate with each other to solve the problems, to have interest in computer security experts, and to design their careers in a creative manner.

The Development of Reading and Maker Educational Program Centered on Engineering (공학중심 Reading & Maker교육 프로그램 개발)

  • The fourth industrial revolution era calls for the ability to solve problems creatively based on basic literacy for technology. These capabilities can be enhanced through the maker education linked to SW education STEM convergence education. Meanwhile, one of the tasks that must be set prior to the maker education is to take an educational approach rather than a tech-centric approach and consider ways to stimulate interest and motivation of the participants. For this purpose, this study developed and applied an engineering-oriented Reading & Maker education program to prospective teachers so that they could participate in active making activities on their own with interest and sympathy rather than simply guiding maker activities. As a result of the study, the results of the maker education recognition survey after the application of the program showed a statistically significant improvement(p<.000).

Case Research on Educational Needs of Engineering Students about Program Outcomes(PO) (공과대학생들의 학습성과(PO)에 대한 교육요구도 사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the information of decision making that can be used to improve curriculum of engineering education by surveying and analyzing that educational needs of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ university' engineering students about program outcomes. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, it was found that engineering students surveyed valued much of the necessity of PO2(analysis experiment), PO3(design capability), PO6(teamwork) among program outcomes. In addition, it was found that engineering students surveyed thought their ability was low in PO3(design capability), PO4(problem solving), PO10 (knowledge of current events). Second, it was found that the order of educational needs about program outcomes was PO3(design capability), PO2(analysis experiment), PO1(knowledge application), PO5(practical ability), PO4(problem solving) which suggested that engineering students surveyed had high educational needs for engineering program outcomes. On the other hand, it was found that engineering students surveyed showed lower awareness of PO7, PO10, PO11 which had characteristics of humanities. It is necessary that systematic establishment of course completion system in basic design, element design and comprehensive design by giving weight to design education that aims to strengthen design capability should be made in curriculum of engineering education. It was found that there was considerable difference in educational needs about program outcomes especially in PO1(analysis experiment), PO4(problem solving), PO5(practical ability), PO6(teamwork) according to grade, gender and specialty and therefore this should be considered in designing curriculum. It is judged that operation of flexible education program should be arranged if learning achievement through regular curriculum Is limited.

  • This paper aims to define the leadership of Gunja (君子, translated into prince, gentleman, or ideal man) based on Confucian Classics which offer the general values and norms of individuals' virtue and social virtuous acts. Thus, humanitarianism is regarded as true value, and the values of a virtuous person who properly practices social human relationships are discussed. The real worth of Gunja image is discussed as a true human image of "self-completion and completion of all things" (成己成物) which involves the convergence of truth, good and beauty where there is a sense of harmony and balance, where there is stern self discipline and self cultivation and where win-win values of human relationships are created. Confucian saint (聖人), wise man (賢人), great man (大人), and gentleman (君子) mean social leaders. They practice human morals, enlighten and beautify society with teachings, and are indicated as equipped with mental and material harmony, good character and competence, and economic power and morality. People today pursue their own personal growth according to their material preferences rather than pure intellectual cultural values, and are engrossed in visually beautiful external unlimited competition. In this digital age, we are supposed to demonstrate our individuality, but many people are obsessed with appearance, go on severe diet, and lose their health beauty, and consequently suffer mental stress. This trend fuels obsession with appearance and the sick practice of valuing appearance. As an alternative method to overcome this phenomenon, we need a leader image with the convergence of truth, good and beauty, which is characterized by internal self cultivation, external professionalism, and handsome and solid character. Confucian thoughts consist in practicing the Way of disciplining oneself for governing others (修己治人). Self discipline involves developing personal virtuous ability for cultivating a virtuous character, and governing others involves interacting to work together in society and to have right human relationships. Thus, leaders should impress not only themselves but also others. Self discipline for governing others means cultivating virtue for oneself and leading others. A true leader has self introspection and establishes himself through self discipline so that he can govern others or reach the realm of settling others where people live together. As all things have a value and a virtue, humans endeavor to cultivate character and virtue by learning and studying for securing their professionalism, reliability, character and ability, so as to create their own brand value. Personal character does not come from a high position, wealth and power. Character is a personal virtue, and is cultivated as immaculate and fresh through self discipline. As such, it well matches with a clean and clear spirit. This offers the ideal leader as the Guja image who has an extremely humane character, as well as being equipped with inherent virtues of intellect, benevolence and courage. Self development can foster virtue and self management through self leadership and self discipline. The leader in the relationship area can practice his virtue through virtuous acts, in other words, even think from another person's perspective. Such leader is mentioned as the principle of measuring square in the Great Learning. In our viewpoint, the beauty of character can breed the seed of virtue through intellect, benevolence and courage, the beauty of win-win can realize the right virtue by showing exemplary acts to others through considerateness, and the beauty of harmony can love and care for others like me through the principle of measuring square, thereby realizing the universal principle of virtue and harmony, which is like my mind. As such, the ideal leader, when his virtue and mind of being considerate of others all blending well, can exercise his ability to the full, can live together and coexist with many people, and can grow again into a triumphant relationship.

Application of recurrent neural network for inflow prediction into multi-purpose dam basin (다목적댐 유입량 예측을 위한 Recurrent Neural Network 모형의 적용 및 평가)

  • This paper aims to evaluate the applicability of dam inflow prediction model using recurrent neural network theory. To achieve this goal, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model and the Elman Recurrent Neural Network(RNN) model were applied to hydro-meteorological data sets for the Soyanggang dam and the Chungju dam basin during dam operation period. For the model training, inflow, rainfall, temperature, sunshine duration, wind speed were used as input data and daily inflow of dam for 10 days were used for output data. The verification was carried out through dam inflow prediction between July, 2016 and June, 2018. The results showed that there was no significant difference in prediction performance between ANN model and the Elman RNN model in the Soyanggang dam basin but the prediction results of the Elman RNN model are comparatively superior to those of the ANN model in the Chungju dam basin. Consequently, the Elman RNN prediction performance is expected to be similar to or better than the ANN model. The prediction performance of Elman RNN was notable during the low dam inflow period. The performance of the multiple hidden layer structure of Elman RNN looks more effective in prediction than that of a single hidden layer structure.

Development of Educational Contents for a Coding Instructor Training Program to Foster 4C Talent (4C 인재육성을 위한 코딩 강사 양성과정 교육콘텐츠 개발)

  • As the demand for the talented with computing thinking and programming skills increases the importance of coding education is increasing. Although various coding instructor training programs have been implemented nationwide, little research has been conducted analyzing the current status and contents of coding instructor training programs. Therefore, this thesis presents the design, development process and managing strategies of the 'Coding Instructor Training Courses for 4C Talent Development'. The training program consists of introductory courses and practical coding courses. In the introductory courses, learners acquires the basic knowledge required of coding instructors, and then proceeds to the practical courses to systematically learn the pedagogical knowledge and skills required to educate learners from kindergarten through high school. The case study introduced in this paper is expected to provide useful information to the educators planning and managing the coding instructor training program in the future.

Python-based Software Education Model for Non-Computer Majors (컴퓨터 비전공자를 위한 파이썬 기반 소프트웨어 교육 모델)

  • Modern society has evolved to such an extent that computing technology has become an integral part of various fields, creating new and superior value to society. Education on computer literacy, including the ability to design and build software, is now becoming a universal education that must be acquired by everyone, regardless of the field of study. Many universities are imparting software education to students to improve their problem-solving ability, including to students who are not majoring in computers. However, software education contains courses that are meant for computer majors and many students encounter difficulty in learning the grammar of programming language. To solve this problem, this paper analyzes the research outcomes of the existing software education model and proposes a Python-based software education model for students who are not majoring in computer science. Along with a Python-based software education model, this paper proposed a curriculum that can be applied during one semester, including learning procedures, and teaching strategies. This curriculum was applied to a liberal arts class and a meaningful result was derived. If the proposed software education model is applied, the students will be interested in the computer literacy class and improve their computational thinking and problem-solving ability.
